....................AN ARTIST STUDIO/RESIDENCE....................
An AIA award-winning, passive-solar, ecological - environmentally "green" building, Casa Colina was completed in 2001, and features all-natural, local materials, to include traditional adobes, rough-cut lumber, exposed concrete, glass and steel. The building is located in Northern New Mexico's ancient Anasazi Basin, on a promontory overlooking centuries old cottonwoods, farmlands and the Chama River valley, just south of Abiquiu, at the center of O'Keeffe country and in close proximity to Indian Pueblo ruins and other points of interest.
This 2000sq.ft building consist of spacious high ceilings, astonishing, light filled spaces incorporating an artist's studio and a residence all under one roof. Magnificent, uninterrupted 360-degree views extend to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Jemez Mountains, Cerro Pedernal, Sierra Negra and star-studded night skies.
A private bedroom loft, observation deck and queen bed with East exposure is conveniently located above the bathroom-kitchen-dinning spaces below and connects to a large living-studio area on the west wing. Simplicity, functionality and traditional details are incorporated in unexpected ways. Mature landscaping, shade trees, fruit trees, outdoor sitting and eating areas make this a perfect setting to meditate, write, create or simply relax in deep privacy and absolute, undisturbed comfort.
Follow in Georgia O'Keeffe's footsteps. Climb Sierra Negra, look for writings on the wall: petroglyphs from the late-Anasazi culture. Stumble across remnants of pre-historic Native American "mulch"gardens. Get lost in the Piedra Lumbre; the place to find yourself. Visit Chaco Canyon's Pueblo Bonito and Chetro Ketl, just a day trip from Abiquiu. Look down into the deep Rio Grande Gorge. |
