'Marsala Apartment' is Comfortably Located in Centre of Bologna
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
We rent this apartment for short tourist stays. We normally ask for a minimum stay of three days. The apartment is located on the first floor of a building dating from 19° century, close to the station and the main square (Piazza Maggiore). Windows face a private wide yard, quiet by night. The living room faces a small terrace, wide enough for enjoying breakfast and dinner and a bottle of sparkling Pignoletto wine after a daily tour. The apartment offers one wide bedroom with a large double bed, a living room with two other single beds convertible to a sofa during the day. For very young children there is a baby-bed available. The kitchen is well equipped to prepare any kind of meal with a four ring stove, oven and dishwasher. The bathroom has a standing shower equipped with a glass enclosure. Some pieces of furniture are quite antique and the whole apartment still has an old-fashioned appeal. There is also a piano where you can even perform some music.

We have stayed in many apartments during our travels and this one is at the top of the list. The apartment is large and comfortable and the owners could not have been more hospitable and helpful. We stayed for a week and its location was perfect for walking to restaurants, shops and transportation. Bologna is a beautiful city and this apartment is a great base from which to visit it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The apartment was really beautiful. Cozy and comfortable. Everything functions perfectly. Only two steps from the noisy heart of the city, but the street is very quiet. The supermarket is also very close, so you can easily cook at home. Thanks to Paolo and Fabrizia we had a really pleasant holiday. Thumbs up. The Marsala Apartment is perfectly located in the heart of Bologna, 10 minutes walk from the railway station and 2 minutes walk from the main square and cathedral. A very nice apartment with plenty of room for two adults and two teenagers. Cooking facilities were fine and bathroom well fitted out. All clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed our week-long stay in August and cooked at the apartment as well as eating out. (Small supermarket is located nearby.) Walter's Gelateria is just outside the door, a hit with the children and adults alike. The apartment was ideal for us as we travelled there by train and took day trips to Ravenna and Florence very easily by train. (Bologna is on a train junction from where you can travel easily in all directions.) It was lovely to be in the heart of Bologna and be able to step right out into the city. Bologna is not overrun by tourists like Florence is (no queues at museums) and there is so much to do and see that we had no problems keeping ourselves busy. A highlight was the walk to San Luca outside the city walls via the colonnaded walkway. Bologna is a gem, in many ways on a par with Venice as an example of a well preserved city of the middle ages and renaissance. Very helpful owner. Very easy to book. We are very happy to recommend. Only one possible improvement - there is no air conditioning which is perhaps only a problem in August!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for the beautiful words. Actually it is our aim to install the air conditioning appliance for summer 2012!

This apartment is centrally located (3 blocks from the Piazza Maggiore), clean, well-lit, and convenient. It is a couple blocks from a Plenty-market, next door to a gelateria (there is also a sushi restaurant), and just off the central shopping district. It is on the bus line, but also is a 20 minute walk to the train/bus station. (This is a challenge if you have substantial luggage, but we did it with a stroller to boot.) The only things that we missed were air conditioning and a washing machine. Otherwise the kitchen is stocked with dishes/cutlery, the shower has ample hot water, and the bedroom is spacious. There is also a small patio for al fresco dining. The free internet makes this apartment nice for both a vacation and for checking up on business while away.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

We are a family of four, with 2 young children. This apartment was lovely, with an old world charm. We found it vert comfortable, and in a truly great location. My only small critique would be that there was no washing machine. Ok for a couple of days, but if you stayed longer this would be a minor inconvenience. Bit otherwise, great. Thanks to Fabrizia for her help.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Like you, my search for a place to stay in Bologna was done on the internet. Like you, I was skeptical about the proposition of booking an apartment sight unseen. But, after our stay (2 adults, 2 children - 4&6) in the Marsala Apartment on our last holiday, I can say with confidence that our family made the right decision! In person, the Marsala Apartment is just as the pictures show: well lit, generously sized rooms, and best of all, an at-home feel. But what the pictures don't show is the most important - the apartment's GREAT location. The apartment is centrally located in Bologna, and is the place to stay for parties of 1-4 to experience this city during your stay. It is within a 10 minute walk of the train station, many of the great attractions, and of course, many of the great restaurants and cafes. From the very beginning, communication with the property manager put us at ease with our stay. Upon arrival, the property owner helped us feel at home and really made us feel like we could relax and enjoy ourselves. Sure, you could stay in a hotel and experience many of these same things, but the value, friendliness, and location of the Marsala Apartment will most certainly be hard to beat. In a return to Bologna, without reservation, we would choose to stay here again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you very much for your beautiful words. Paolo

We stayed in the Marsala Apartment in early April 2011, and we were really pleaed with our choice of aprtment. Not only was it in a great loacation , just off the Via Indepenzia ( one of the main streets) and a short stroll to the main square, but was also a lovely apartment.A large bedroom , and an equally large bed , with a compact kitchen and dining area, and a newly decorated bathroomThere is also a small patio , a real little sun trap for a few hours in the afternoon. Finding the apartment was easy, bus from the airport to the penulimate stopoutside the cathedral , then a 2 min walk. Two good cafe's just around the corner - along with a great Piaza takeway for a lunch-time snack. No TV , but wasn't missed . 5 min walk to the station , recomend a trip to Florence. We checked out at 0730 in the morning , and the owners wife was there for us , dead on time. Would throughly recommend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you very much! Paolo

This is a great place to stay in Bologna. Ideally situated near the centre of town yet easily walkable from the bus and train stations. Off the main drag so quiet as well though there is a bit of noise from the restaurant next door in the evenings but nothing that would stop you sleeping (I'm a light sleeper). The bedroom is the star of the show - spacious, great antique furniture and large comfortable bed. The kitchen/sitting room is smaller but compensated for by a balcony. No washing machine and some of the kitchen utensils and pots and pans could be better of quality but nothing off-putting. Lovely terrazzo tiles and high ceilings lend it a cool elegant ambience. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Bologna.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
