We took over the renting of our West Maui condo in October of 2006. We have been upgrading the condo since May of 2006. The following comments from our guests are very gratifying and will give you a sense of the feeling they have after staying at Sunset Central. Also, most guest write about all of their favorite activities they enjoyed while here.

Ray and Connie. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of paradise with us! I can honestly say we wanted for nothing - the condo and its contents is perfect. Of course Maui was perfect as well the water was rough but warm and we swam every day. We caught the little Gecko lizard in the bedroom and set him free in the grass - hope you don’t mind. (he looked hungry) Thanks again, Troy & Dawn, Seattle, WA

Ray and Connie. Thank you for the fantastic accommodations! I cooked a ton and the kitchen was set up perfect. It was the first time to bake pizza in a corning ware 9x13 but it worked well. The ocean was rough and the surf was high when we got here so we did most of our snorkeling in South Maui – particularly enjoyed Makena Landing/5 caves where we swam with 10 turtles on two different days. We ate breakfast and dinner on Sunset Central’s Lanai. What a delight. Saw the little lizard twice. We loved the blow hole… it performed awesome with the high tide and huge surf! We are absolutely delighted with our condo. Terry and Diane, Palmer, Alaska

Ray and Connie. Thank you so much for sharing your condo with us. It was beautiful and very well equipped. This is our first trip to Maui - but definitely won’t be the last. A lot quieter than Oahu. We are not really “water’ people – but having the ocean right outside our door & hearing the lull of the waves sure put us in a relaxing mood. We got sucked in with a Timeshare Presentation the first day we were here. Had some people not very happy with us – but we got $100 to spend & some great discounts on tours –eg- saved $245 on helicopter tour to Hana/Haleakala. We drove the Road to Hana & it was incredible! Went to Warren and Annabelle’s. I would recommend to everyone. Had some good laughs there. The Aquarium was awesome as was the Plantation Tour. Spent an afternoon in Paia - ate at Flatbreads, very good pizza. Enjoyed the food at Leiu’s and Kool cats. Also went on the Submarine ride – as close to seeing fish underwater that we will get. We truly enjoyed our stay here and are making plans for when we can come back. Definitely much more relaxing & homey atmosphere than a hotel room. (only had 1 Gecko on the living room wall!!) Bernie and Peggie, Alvena, Saskatchewaa The Maui Revealed book was a big help – much better than the one we brought – Discover Maui

Dear Ray and Connie. We would like to thank you for allowing us to stay in your condo. This was our first time to visit Maui and we have fallen in love with the island and the people here. We are the “exploring” type. We have driven all over the island putting 500+ miles on the rental car. Our favorite place was Hana. The Road to Hana has many beautiful sights along the way. We were happy to have such a well stocked kitchen to cook in. We did celebrate Thanksgiving at the Royal Ocean Terrace @ Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Very good! Also went to dinner at Pizza Madness in Kihei and FuLin in Lahaina. We enjoyed the view from the lanai sighting many turtles, dolphins and whales. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary while here. Mahalo and Aloha, Patrick & Linda, Gaffney South Carolina

We could not have had a more perfect vacation. We have been around most of the island and can honestly say there isn’t any other place we would have rather stayed. The condo was perfect in every way and we felt like we were home. From waking up in the morning to a full moon, to watching the turtles on the wall, to watching beautiful sunsets & lounging in the lounge chairs just looking at all the stars in the sky. From morning to night everything was perfect and relaxing. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality and helping us totally relax. Chris and Cindy

Thanks Ray and Connie for a wonderful condo. We had to start our vacation out in a different unit as you did not have availability for the whole week. Thanks for setting us up with Kim to rent the other unit the first 3 days we were here. We were really busy on this trip. We did several tours but the one that really stood out was the “Hike Maui” tour. They took us to a private property for a whole day of hiking, swimming, and waterfalls. Guide was very knowledgeable. Very very nice dinner at Dukes which is 5 minutes away. Food was great. Atmosphere and vies were excellent!! We did a day of snorkeling up at Black Rock. Park in the free parking for beach access at the Sheraton which is at Kaanapali Beach Resorts. Great snorkeling and plenty of fish by Black Rock. You can even rent a little beach bungalow for $45.00 for the day. Really enjoyed burgers at Kook Kats Lahaina on Front St. Lots of great shops along Front St. We are sad to leave and really appreciate your place Ray!!! Thanks for wonderful vacation! Also – got to snorkel with a few sea turtles off the sea wall right behind your unit. Sam and Jodi, Simi Valley, CA

We had a real nice time at Sunset Central. We did rent a 2009 Toyota from Aloha Maui Vans. They were fast picking us up at the airport, the car ran fine and the price was better than any other car rental. We stopped at Safeway on the way to the condo and bought some things for dinner. The outside grills are all so handy and never crowded. We like to cook and eat at home so that is what we did most of the time. The stores in the area make for a great walk each morning. How can you beat eating dinner outside and watching the sunset. Your condo is exactly as stated and pictured. We loved going in the ocean on the boogie boards and enjoying the waves. Thanks for a great time. Norm and Priscilla

Aloha Ray and Connie, Could not ask for anything. The view… The condo was fabulous. Lots of room just like home everything we needed for our stay PARADISE. Lot of turtles almost got run over while snorkeling by (2) Green Turtles. We were sorry that the whole beach moved North. Wanted to go boogie boarding but the large board was broken so for the next guest we went and bought a brand new boards (still in wrapper) Enjoy our gift to the next guest. Went out to see the blow hole & found Lorraine’s Shaved Ice. Made it thru the 1 lane Rd. to get there. Very friendly people. Lorraine & Guy showed us their wonderful property. She has some gorgeous Quilt bed spreads. Had to buy one, truly Hawaiian made worth the price compared to store bought $$$ in town. We have the most relaxing time here. We cannot begin to tell how perfect it is at Sunset Central. Going out to get some more pictures of everything and there is never enough time. Betty and I were so relaxed all we can say is Swaying Palms and Turquoise Waters providing an Exciting Getaway to Paradise! Mahalo Ray and Connie, Aloha til next year Betty and David, Seattle, WA

A first: Saw 3-5 spotted eagle rays right off the sea wall ~6p.m. two different nights. I think they were mating. A first: Scuba dived Honoloa Bay. Fantastic. A first: Went to Star Noodle that everyone has raved about. Very good. Cost more that Happy Hour discounted meals we usually do. Canoes changed hands to Five Palms. The place is dead. Sunday jazz band moved to Black Angus 1 mile up the road in Kahana. (not the chain restaurant Black Angus) Outback Happy Hour changed from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for last 2 years to 4-6 p.m. Had Calamari, seared Ahi, and grilled BBQ shrimp (new), All great and half off. Went there 3X so that tells you something. A first: Saw a muskrat at Mala ramp. No snakes in Hawaii cuz of them. Have seen the little 1-1/2” Gecko in the bathroom 3 times. Good luck comes if you see one. One little guy and one ~4” on lanai. It makes us laugh when they squak. Sunsets: They are not over when the sun goes down. We are becoming experts on West Maui sunsets. Have watched 14 in a row. I would say about 8 or 9 were best about 20 minutes after the sun went down to about 50 minutes after. 3 or more were very nice before the sun set. We had ~10 days of large waves. Some came over the sea wall and killed our grass. Was disappointed to see that. And they pushed our beach North. First time since stair and sea wall repair 04/10 that you have to time the waves to walk in about 12” of water to get to the beach. Wave direction is now back to normal and easy access is coming back. Have to leave this morning. Good vacationing to all! Ray and Connie.

Connie & Ray, Thank you for another wonderful time at Sunset Central. Three years ago we came here for our 25th anniversary. Coming back for 28th. We have experienced new things and have enjoyed stuff we did last time. Snorkeling at Honoloa Bay was as wonderful as we remembered. This time we did the Hana Highway (loved it!) Did not like the ride around the back way coming home. If you have a bad back not the road you want to take. Enjoyed shopping in Paia. Sunrise at Haleakala was breathtaking. Couple of our favorite restaurants were Kool Cats and Lahaina Pizza. Now we are on to Kuai for a week. Hope we have as much fun as we have had here! Thanks again. Brad and Connie, Topeka, KS P.S. The improvements you have done on the condo are outstanding!

Hi Ray and Connie, This is our last night here, our last trip to the fish market to pick out the best fish to grill it on the beach, our last time swimming in the ocean, our last sunset... why is it that the last day brings on such love for a place? We have had 13 other nights just the same but this one is the day that we disregarded the sun hats and let our faces enjoy the sun, we had 2 fruity drinks with rum instead of one as the sun set, we finally swam out beyond the reef, because tomorrow we will be back in San Francisco and back to our normal business life. We will return, and tomorrow before I board the plane I am going to swim out beyond the reef one more time. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

Dear Ray & Connie, Our second trip to Sunset Central and as before it was wonderful! 14 days a dream vacation. Amazing snorkeling, finally swam with the sea turtles. Most evenings we are right on the lanai watching the evening sunsets. We drove to Wailea and found a great beach to snorkel. Someone told us it was “Turtle Town” and we did see turtles. Best banana bread from Julia’s! So yummy! Thank you so much for sharing your home! P.S. It was out 25th anniversary present to ourselves.

We had a great trip. Everything we had hoped it would be. We ate all our meals out & the food was amazing. I can't get over shaved ice, no one has it in Calif. I guess. The condo was perfect & the view breathtaking. Loved having the beach right outside our door. Found a great church in Kaanapali. Kaanapali Beach Ministry, they meet at Leilani's on the Beach in Whalers Village. The service is 8:00 A.M. of Sundays. Also the Gazebo Restaurant at Napili Shore Resort was great. Thank you,

Wow! We have had a great two weeks here. “Sunset Central” Many meals on the lanai, lots of swimming with the turtles! Snorkeling Adventures: Honoloa Bay. Had to return 3X. Slaughterhouse Beach out around the point on the South end and in to the next little bay – Wonderful! Turtles snorkeling every evening here. Counted 12 one session. Coral Gardens at No end of Kanapali. Beach fabulous! (we parked at the little park just North of Honoa Kais resort across from the Times Market. Seashore Walks: DT Fleming Beach Napili, Kapalua Beach, Honoa Kai Resort to Sheraton (Black Rock) trail ends further than that. Kng’s road at La Perouse Bay. (went early, very windy, bring a scarf or bandana, hat blows right off!) Restaurants: Star Noodle – excellent, fresh Pacific Asian. Up the hill from Walgreen’s on the L side of main road into Lahaina. I’ O” – excellent dinner, sunset, music from Luau next door. Groceries: Can’t see it from the main road but Foodland Farms (different than the regular Foodland) gourmet cheese center, great Poke selection, produce, wine. It’s also on the l side going into Lahaina across from Cannery/Safeway, tucked back into the newere little shopping center. Thank you Ray and Connie for such a wonderful, well equipped home for a base for many adventures. We’ll be back!

What a great view and listening to the waves was relaxing. Be careful on beach. Before noon ocean is much calmer. We went around 5 pm and the waves were rough. Guy who lives here says ocean is weird right now. Ate at Aloha Mixed Plate. The food was good and inexpensive. It is next door to the Old Lahaina Luau. They serve food and you hear the music. Lahaina Luau and Aloha Mixed Plate owned by the same people. Happy hour till 6 pm. On to Hana for a couple of nights. Thanks.

Thank you so much Ray & Connie for the use of your home which made for the best vacation ever. We’ve been so comfortable here. Breakfasts on the lanai were perfect. We did see a couple of whales one morning. In the evening the sunsets were awesome!! Our favorite moment was the sunrise at Haleakala. Absolutely breathtaking. We also took a helicopter tour; well worth it. Another highlight was the Road to Hana. Great trip. Would recommend all three things. Also The Old Lahaina Luau was very good. One other place worth seeing is the Kula Botanical Garden; beautiful flowers, plants and trees. We’ll be taking many cherished memories home with us and hope to return one day. Thanks again. Ray & Connie, Thanks so much for letting us stay in your condo. It was perfect for us. We loved sitting on the patio and watching for the whales. (and one breached close in. It was spectacular) Three huge turtles came right up on the beach and frequented the area just in front of the condo. And at night we enjoyed watching the Geckos catching moths. Although it was a bit windy for snorkeling, the weather and temperature were picture perfect as we enjoyed our meals on the patio. Email: Ray and Connie, Once again totally enjoying ourselves in your wonderful condo....all needs met!! We enjoyed the Hula Girl Whale watch...they do a great job! ...you buy your own food and drink, but there were so many whales to watch we never ate. Two hours for $55. Also did a luau....a gourmet one this time: The Feast at Lele in Lahaina. Although pricey, a wonderful experience!!! We noticed all three of the beach chairs in your bedroom closet are broken. May want to replace or have the cleaning lady throw. Found a bikini top...turquoise...if anyone has missed...will leave it in laundry closet. Going for our beach walk....found that Honoapilani Beach walk access....so handy...and love Duke's too. Thanks for our access to paradise again! What a terrific place to stay! When we arrived we put down our bags and sat on the lanai. Within 10 minutes we saw a whale breach 2 or 3 times. Had whale sightings every day but not as spectacular. Unfortunately my friend punctured her foot on a rock swimming. Don’t let this stop you because there are only 1 or 2 rocks there. Don’t know what happened. It all seemed like part of he adventure until the doctor said she couldn’t go in water for 8-10 days when she got stitches out. We’ll see…. Leaving now for big island. Enjoyed the IOA Needle and the Botanical Gardens. Did some nice swimming and really enjoyed the lanai. Thanks for such a lovely experience. A well stocked and beautiful place. Kristin

Things we enjoyed the most: The drive North to “Dragons Teeth, Blowhole and Divine Pools”, Hana Highway, Kimo’s Mai Tai, Aloha Mixed Plate’s local food, Roy’s rack of lamb Sam Sato’s in Wailuku, Dry Noodles, Mama’s fish House’s Polynesian Beef, Julia’s banana bread (end of HWY 30) best ever, Massage at Spa Rejuva, Snorkeling at Honoloa Bay (oh thank you so much for snorkeling gear), kayaking at Kihei (rental at Surf Shack), Sunsets at Sunset Central, Sunbathing and snorkeling at Black Rock. 12/14/10 Email: Ray, Just to let you know, we were extremely happy with the condo. It may be a couple of years, but when we come back to Maui, hopefully your condo will be open. It was perfect. Thank you, Larry and Brenda

Thanks Ray and Connie for helping our family surprise us with their 40th anniversary wishes and gifts for us. We were very surprised arriving with our daughter here & having flowers, champagne, card, gift certificate to Mama’s Fish House. They said you were a big help Ray. The week has gone by quickly but we packed a lot in. Started by drinking the champagne and off to the Old Lahaina Luau the first evening. Life is good. Besides enjoying your condo and swimming usually twice a day we drove the single lane road on the North side. Beautiful scenery, banana bread and coconut chip top (yummy!) @Kahakloa – then did a hike at Wahee Valley called the “Swinging Bridges Trail” It’s worth doing. You have to park across some private property so the charge $6.00 per person. Still worth it. We took a snorkel trip on the “Ahi Nui” catamaran from Ma’alea Harbor to Turtle Town. They treat you with great food and equipment and not too many people. We were pleased with it. We were lucky the day we drove to the crater. The skies were clear and we had good views. Stopped at Paia and had lunch at “Charlie’s” then on to Mama’s Fish House for dinner. Expensive…Whew! One large turtle entertained us by staying on the beach & sunning himself for a couple of hours one day here. That was a treat to see him out of water. Of course we enjoyed the sunsets that you brag about Ray and cans see why you do. Lovely and beautiful. I hope to come back someday. Your condo worked perfectly for us. Thanks, Gerald, Peggy & Sasha

From Ray and Connie (owners) Got here and biggest waves we have ever seen here. Unless the surfers are short the waves were 6-8 ft high. Water is churned up. Now 7 days later ocean is normal and beach is moving from past the stair to past our condo. Went snorkeling and swam with 4 turtles in front of the condos South of us. Visibility 30 feet = great. Went snorkeling again and saw just one turtle. Visibility about 10 feet. Dove the back wall of Molokini. My 3rd time. Was a good dive. I probably am done with boat dives. Done them all. May stick with shore dives. Once again leaving condo in great shape. Deep cleaned and added new fan in the bedroom. We are excited about our next guests coming here for their 40th anniversary. They were surprised to find out their daughter is joining them. They will be even more surprised to find out here will be champagne, flowers and a gift certificate to Mama’s. (most romantic restaurant on Maui)provided by their family and organized by sister, Kathy. We discovered Roy’s happy hour specials. 4 items to choose from and menu changes every week. ½ price. Great food! Fun! Roy’s is only 1 mile to the left out of our parking lot. Go right at gas station and left into shopping center. Great ½ off pupus. Check out Maui Arts and Gifts store. Great sale going on. We are sorry to leave. Happy Anniversary to Gerald and Peggy. A hui hou, Ray and Connie

Thank you for sharing this amazing place with us!! We so appreciated the obvious (location, view) and the unexpected (beach chairs aloe) We’re so glad we picked this nice condo over a hotel! The lanai, beach and sound of the ocean waves are all spectacular. We hope to return for more relaxing and driving. Kate, Chris Boston, MA

Aloha Ray and Connie, We had such a wonderful stay at your condo. The highlight of the trip was actually snorkeling on the beach here and also lying on the beach. We enjoyed making friends with turtles and hope to do it again. I recommend eating at the Pineapple Grill. The pork chops, ribs and upside down pineapple cake are great. Saturday night happy hour is from 8-10 p.m. We also highly recommend Lucky Strike Fishing Charter in Lahaina. We caught many fish and the staff (Ted & Cindy owners) are great. Lastly we got some coupons out of the local rag for the Atlantis Sub in Lahaina which was also a lot of fun. Hopefully we can make it back soon!! Take care, Travis

Ray and Connie, Your condo was everything we hoped for and so much more. All of the extras such as boogie board, snorkel fins and mask, washer and dryer made our excursions around the island complete. But most of all your beachfront location and view is a slice of heaven. Many nights we sat on the rock wall and watched the sunsets. One morning while drinking our coffee (Kona coffee that is) we saw a huge green sea turtle munching on the food stuck to the rocks while navigating the waves. OMG he was huge! We went up North to the Olivine Pools. To climb down the rock wall to the ocean and swim in turquoise tide pools filled with tropical fish while massive waves crash 15 feet away up against the rocky sea wall is still thrilling. The hike down to the sea is only for the fit though! We went to Big Beach where all the boogie boarders and nudists go. Two lifeguard stations man the beach at all times. The Pacific Whale Foundation tour out to Lanai and Molikini was killer. We saw over 200 spinner dolphins, 50 speckled dolphins, & two bottle nose dolphins. Rarely are all three dolphins seen in one day. We snorkeled at Molikini and saw the most fish of anywhere we snorkeled the whole trip. All in all we had a super time. Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us. We take with us many fun memories of beautiful Maui and Sunset Central. Mahalo, Allison and Joe

Aloha Ray and Connie, We had a great second visit to Sunset Central. Loved all the improvements to the condo. Had a very wonderful time in Maui. Snorkeled at Honoloa Bay, took Maui Adventure Raft trip to Lanai. Went to Hana again & stopped at a couple of waterfalls on the way & cooled off at the Sacred Pools. Drove the unpaved way back from Hana. Scary but saved a lot of time. Enjoyed the Ulalena show at the Maui Theatre. As always loved watching the sunset on the lanai, having breakfast and enjoying the views of the ocean & beach. We saw four baby Manta Rays swimming on the surface by the rock wall. Drove to Haleakala to see the sunrise. Beautiful. It was cold and windy. Thanks again for letting us use your wonderful condo. Look forward to our next trip to Sunset Central. Ray and Connie, Thank you so very much for allowing us to share your amazing view of the ocean. We have had our wedding (Po’Olenalena Beach) and now he honeymoon begins. It is so much more than we could have ever expected. One day we saw 10 turtles. Wow. Monday nite we went to the Luau at the Hyatt. “VIP” It was pretty awesome. They put on quite a show. Went on a snorkel trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation. They were so great, our crew was fun and the snorkel sites were amazing. The wedding and honeymoon we had here in Maui was the most amazing thing for us. Leaving Sunset Central brings tears to our eyes. It’s the most beautiful place on the earth and we hope to bring our kids here someday!! Mahalo!! Thank you Ray and Connie Brian and Stephanie Oklahoma

Ray & Connie, We enjoyed or week in your lovely condo. The amazing view, quiet atmosphere and lulling waves contributed to on of the best vacations either of us has ever experienced. We were on the go quite a bit but enjoyed dinner at the Pineapple Grill and Kool Cats and breakfast at Longhis. We swam with the turtles twice just outside the condo. Amazing! Thanks for offering your little slice of paradise to us! Thank you. Julia and Mark El Paso, TX

Thanks Ray and Connie for sharing your relaxing place with us. What a fantastic location. A great place to get away from all the business back home. We had a low key time here. We spent almost every day at the beach (except when I got fried on day 4!) It was nice to have a little beach right here complete with turtles, good snorkeling, and fun waves (we had a lot this time) We found Napili was the funnest “family” for our son (7). Fun waves and a lot of other kids to make friends with. The happy hour at Napili Kai is from 2-5 and the pupus were excellent. ~$5 per plate. You can literally eat and drink at the restaurant while the kids play at the beach (and still watch them) The Road to Hana CD was informative but the Maui Revealed book in our closet includes many more hikes, waterfalls, and beaches that are not mentioned on the CD. Like the “Blue Pool” fantastic. We ate a lot of fresh fish from the Fish Market and the Times Grocery Store and all was excellent. The Farmer’s Market Store actually had good prices. Sometimes even better than the Times Market. We never got tired of having the ocean right outside our window and enjoyed many sunset meals with a million dollar view right here. Thank you for sharing Sunset Central with us. Pete, Annette and Jason Korn Auburn, CA

Our first trip to Maui and what a great introduction. Great location here in Lahaina, beautiful shoreline and view. During our visit we enjoyed the Road to Hana, and continued around the entire Eastern lobe of Maui. Beautiful and starkly different from the North side. We joined some friends for a tour around the entire Western lobe of Maui while enjoying the Blow Hole, the very narrowly winding roads and a hike along the Indiana Jones suspended roads. America II (America’s Cup Challenger, 1987) was a fantastic experience ($38) Be prepared to get wet. Sunshine helicopter tour of Molokai and reef was amazing. Eating was fabulous (Check out Mala on Front St. and Star Noodle up the hill from Lahaina) but excellent restaurants. Sansei was great as well. Looking forward to another year here. Be sure to say good morning to the sea turtles off the wall each morning. Jeff & Marlon Chicago

Ray& Connie, Just want to thank you so much for letting us stay here. We’ve lived on Oahu for six years and enjoy staying in VRBO condos during our other island trips. In a few months we will be moving back to the mainland… we will definitely miss our island trips. A few years ago we made it a mission to play all golf courses on the Hawaiian Islands so our stay here marks the completion of our mission. We love staying in rental condos for the “home away from home” comfort and amenities. This is our first VRBO condo that was right on the water which made our last trip that much more meaningful. We enjoyed the lanai and sea wall for reflecting on our last six years of living in a breathtaking place. We do not take for granted how fortunate we have been. Wish you both the best. Thanks!!! Wimberly and Michael, Mililani, HI (Oahu) Owner note: Wimberly and Michael serve our county and were transferred to the mainland. We are thankful for our servicemen and women.
