My 5 friends and family just had the most remarkable vacation ever! 3 of us were turning 50 and three were turning 60. So we really knew that we wanted a place to celebrate together yet have space of our own. Casa Contenta was the ticket for one of the most enjoyable, luxurious and most reasonably price vacation ever. The pictures that are posted do not do the property justice. It's like trying to see The Grand Canyon via postcards. The property, views atmosphere and service are simply phenomenal. Mercedes oversees the property remotely while the owners, John and Dianne, are away. She will do all of the shopping for everything you'd like present upon arrival and have it all waiting along with fresh chips, salsa and guacamole along with a Margarita welcome as you watch your first of many memorable sunsets. She checks in regularly to make sure that all is going well or to book activities yet doesn't interfere. Only a few minutes are spent showing the property and owners John and Dianne do a couple of initial check in calls to make sure that all expectations are met. Mauri cares for the house on a daily basis. She will cook everyone a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner or (as we did) a private chef can be coordinated to arrive and cook 4-5 star restaurant quality food. This was truly a luxury vacation where we spent quality, relaxing time with dear friends and paid less that we would have staying in any of the "strip" hotels. For anyone traveling to Mexico for the first time, Puerto Vallarta is completely safe and so is the entire building in which Casa Contenta is located. An elevator takes you down 3 levels to the villa and for anyone traveling with and handicapped or elderly family member there is a full king size master suite on the first floor with it's own mini-living room and large screen television. No stairs involved. Our 82 year mom was felt completely safe and protected and we felt very much at ease to leave her on her own while we walked down to the beach. Conchas Chinas beach is a nice 15 minute walk down cobble stone streets and is one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in PV. 5 minute cab rides into town are $4 which is nice. Once there we couldn't wait to get back "home" to the luxury of Casa Contenta to float in the negative edge pool and gaze at the ocean. Why would you stay at a hotel packed with tourists and screaming kids when you can have your own private villa high on the hillside overlooking all of Puerto Vallarta? And at half the price including your own infinity edged pool and chef and maid staff! This is Puerto Vallarta's best kept secret, Las Terrazas villas in the renowned Conchas Chinas neighborhood (the Beverly Hills of PV, MEX) is truly spectacular. We have now stayed in three of these villas, each with their own character and attention to detail. Casa Contenta is probably the most modern and newly renovated. Full size gourmet kitchen, four bedrooms, four baths, private infinity edge pool, and a sun deck that's massive in size with a built in wet bar. The villa has wifi Internet, Vonage phone service so you can phone home to the US for free and even a great sound system to plug in your iPad, iPod, iPhone, etc. you can walk down the hill in 10 minutes to Conchas Chinas Beach, probably the most spectacular in all of Puerto Vallarta, and downtown PV is a quick 4 minute taxi ride away. This is the 2nd year we have enjoyed Casa Contenta and Maury is Amazing and takes such good care of us. The house is SPECTACULAR and has the most AMAZING views of the bay and town and Truly is a Paradise in the Conchas Chinas and we LOVE the new sitting area and Infinity pool. I would suggest you do your self a favor and book this house without delay you will be back again and again. We will return every year and can't say ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT CASA CONTENTA!!!!!! This is the 2nd year that we have beek lucky enough to have a pod of baby Whales playing in front of the house in the Bay almost every day - Truly AMAZING!!!! Many thanks for a wonderful New Years haven for 2 families- an amazing view, spacious and beautiful home not to mention the care that was taken of us during our stay. The walk down to the beach and town is just perfect and we were always moments away if we just wanted to go out downtown in a taxi. We all loved our 2012/13 vacation and certainly recommend Casa Contenta to anyone looking for spectacular views, roomy and graceful accomodations and wondeful staff - the infinity pool and cliff side 8 seater bar topped this one for me!Owner response: Thank you for all your wonderful comments about your stay at Casa Contenta~so glad you could ring in the New Year experiencing all it has to offer! As first time visitors to Puerto Vallarta, Casa Contenta definitely helped make this one trip to remember! Situated in the renowned Conchas Chinas neighborhood (just minutes away from the heart of town), this beautiful 4 bedroom villa with breathtaking ocean views is perfect for any family looking for a home away from home. My wife and I were looking for a perfect spot to relax for a week, and we found it. Having been to Puerto Vallarta many times we are partial to Conchas Chinas for the space and beautiful views of the bay. Casa Contenta has truly spectacular views of the bay that pictures cannot describe. The home is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The discription of Casa Contenta was very accurate and more as that shown on the Website - no disappointments here. It was immaculately maitained and Mauri, the maid, is a treasure. We took our son/daughter and their families to Casa Contenta rather than an all-inclusive, to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. It was the right choice for us as, after a busy day on tours, we could enjoy quality family time to-gether rather than spend that time with 300 others at an all-inclusive resort. The booking process was stress-free and the owners treated us more like friends they knew, rather than prospective renters. They phoned us after we arrived to ensure everything was O.K. and that all was in running order. I would be more than happy to recommend this property to friends and family and hope that one day we can return. The local beach is a 10 minute walk down the hill and a 5 minute taxi drive takes you to old-town Vallarta and the main beach. The owners have very kindly assembled a complete guide to PV, Restaurants, Local Attractions, Tours to take including their favorite places to eat for lunch and dinner. They also provide phone numbers for emergency, hospital, fire brigade, police, directions for small and large grocery stores and directions how to get there. Nothing has been overlooked to make sure that Casa Contenta is well equipped and everything is at your finger tips. The two story home as floor to ceiling windows with the most awesome views from both floors - awesome! The patio runs the full length of the home with stunning views out to the horizon. As it is built on a cliffside, there is nothing obstructing such awesome views and sunsets. It was a perfect way to spend such a special celebration and our family are still raving about it to-day. I cannot say enough about this beautiful home and the owners' efforts to make sure that everything was perfect for us. What a wonderful memory we have to-gether.Did you find this review helpful? "Perfection" Casa Contenta is the perfect setting for a vacation in Puerta Vallarta. The home is elegant yet comfortable. The patio area is the perfect place for relaxing and fun. Every bedroom has its own charm and privacy. We loved cooking in the fabulous kitchen. There are ocean views from everywhere that are amazing. I would Highly recommend Casa Contenta for a stay in Vallarta. It was Spectacular!!!! The views, suites, pool and the deck as well as Maurey (The maid) is wonderful down to a Spa that sent us Pedicurist and Massage Therapist recomended by Dianne for a day on the deck that everyone will remember for ever. We were near everything we wanted yet just far enough to be tranquil and relaxing. Dianne (Owner) was Amazing and so easy to work with This is money well spent and we staayed for 2 weeks and will be returning again. We were also lucky enough to have 2 baby whales that plaayed and jumped in the Bay every day our last week aand I have never experienced aanything like it truly an experience of a life time. From the moment we stepped in the front door we knew we had chosen the perfect place for our vacation. Each room has a magnificent view that the pictures just can't quite capture. The owners and the staff really wanted to make our stay first rate- and they succeeded. Casa Contenta was just that- we had everything we needed there and loved the house so much that we rarely left- having 3 dinners cooked for us there and masseurs come out to the house. However, we did have a day out snorkeling which was beautiful and fun and had some very yummy dinners in town at La Palapa, Barcelona Tapas, and Trio.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: We are John and Dianne Arguelles, who used to live in Santa Barbara, CA where John was born and raised. Dianne is from Orinda, CA and Honolulu. John is a retired dentist and Dianne a retired dental hygienist and personal life coach. We have five grown children (who are spread out across the U.S.) and eleven grandchildren. We love to spend our days in the sun, boating, snorkeling, beaching, exploring, golfing, reading and relaxing. We see ourselves as adventurous and willing to stretch beyond our comfort zones, thus buying a house in a foreign country! We are happiest when we are at Casa Contenta watching the famous glorious sunsets from our infinity pool. When you stay at Contenta you get personalized service from beginning to end. Dianne is always available via phone to answer any questions whether it be about the house or where to eat. Mercedes is our administrator who you call for anything and Maury is there daily (except Sundays) to clean, maybe make some breakfasts and help in any way. She is a gem. Dianne prepares a Renters' Information Packet for you to read before arrival, which is chock full of good stuff about the house and what to do while there. If you don't have something we will do all we can to get it for you. Our goal is for you to have the time of your life!
Why the Owner Chose South Zone:
While visiting P.V. seven years ago, we decided to look at properties all around Bandaras Bay because John felt Puerto Vallarta had 'good bones'! plus a lot of charm. We chose the quiet Conchas Chinas area, just a bit south of the Romantic Zone, because of the proximity to beaches, restaurants, boutiques and the pulse of the town. It doesn't hurt that they call the area 'the Beverly Hills' of Puerto Vallarta also! The first response we had when we stepped onto the terrace for the first time was a gasp as the view took our breaths away. We had to have it! For the last seven years that we have owned it, yearly we have done a large renovation project to make it 'ours'! We named it Casa Contenta because we wanted it to represent exactly that~CONTENTMENT.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Casa Contenta sits high on a hillside which looks down and out onto an expansive view of Bandaras Bay. You feel as if you are at one with the ocean.The house is at the apex of the bay so the famous Vallarta sunsets, a different color every night, are right n front of your eyes. The terrace boasts one of the largest in the area which in itself is a real bonus for entertaining, sitting at the bar, lounging by the pool or dining al fresco. Unlike most Mexican homes with many different levels and stairs, Contenta has just two levels. Location is everything. El Set and Lindo Mar restaurants are less than a 15 minute walk down the hill and a little more than a 20 minute walk to the Romantic Zone and Los Muertos Beach. We enjoy giving our guests a 'margarita welcome' with homemade salsa, guacamole and chips made especially by our maid, Mauri. YUM! Because it is on a hillside, hiking the area is great exercise in the morning. Then you savor the wonderful Mexican coffee sitting on the terrace while the city wakes up. In the late afternoon floating in the infinity pool with your favorite drink, waiting for the whales to appear right in front of the house. Then the last treat is watching the 'green flash' at sunset. Many nights we are given the gift of fireworks over the bay in front of the house. Nothing like it here at Casa Contenta. Many guests say it has a definite 'wow factor' and the pictures don't do it justice. You just have to experience it for yourself!
