Be pleasantly surprised by Asturias, the Spain few expect or get to know. On the Northern Atlantic coast, Asturias has a climate tempered by the Gulf Stream. The coast is mild in the winter and the days and nights are delightfully cool in the summer. The mountains have pristine forests and wildlife. Feast your eyes on the beautiful coastline, fishing ports, green meadows and rocky peaks.
La Cumbre, El Balcon, El Pajar, and Los Balagos are found on a peaceful hillside organic farm with ocean and mountain views. All are available for view on Holiday-Rentals, La Cumbre #224154, El Balcon #253751, El Pajar and Los Balagos #443221. The cottages have all been lovingly restored to make them comfortable vacation homes for two and up to six. All our houses have wood burning stoves and are furnished with a mix of new and antique Asturian furniture with attention to those details that count; comfortable beds, good reading lamps, mirrors, cotton sheets and towels (laundered with natural soaps, sun dried and ironed) and numerous other touches that make a place feel special. Our water comes from a deep well and is a wonderful alternative to bottled water. You are welcome in the organic vegetable garden where culinary herbs and flowers are available for the picking and we are happy to share the overabundance of the garden for those that ask.
The farmhouse, La Cumbre, sleeping a maximum of 6 is available to couples as well as families with a discounted rate for two outside July and August. El Pajar and Los Balagos are found behind La Cumbre. El Pajar(2) enjoys mainly mountain views and Los Balagos(2) has the ocean views. Both are side by side. We, the owners (2, Spanish and American) live across the way to the back. El Balcon(sleeps 2), sits by itself a short walk up from the rest and enjoys superb ocean and mountain views. All our cottages are the original stone buildings found on the place and have been restored with chestnut floors, exposed stone and pretty Spanish tiling. There is plenty of room for everyone with separate garden areas for each cottage and parking. This is a great getaway.
Choose between sandy or pebble beaches, hiking the hillsides, exploring Celtic ruins or joining in the summer festivities. Stay home and enjoy our peaceful setting or in just ten minutes by car find yourself on the coast choosing a restaurant or a beach.
There are walking trails that lead from our farm to include the famous "Camino de Santiago," offering panoramic views of the coastline. If you yearn for city life both Gijon, Oviedo and Avilés are under an hour's drive and make for fun day trips. All are accessible by train and bus. Gijon has a superb beach and aquarium. Oviedo, the elegant cathedral capital, has great shopping and museums. We love the beauty and variety of Asturias and welcome others to discover it. Note: We do live up a steep hill which can present a challenge the first time up. Just go slow and you will be fine. We are available to help and guarantee it is worth the effort.

- Kid Friendly : Our place is well loved by children who enjoy feeding the chickens and sheep and are safe to explore as there is no through traffic or dangerous farm machinary. While the Pajar sleeps 2 we have a farmhouse that accomodates a family of 6. NB: Because of the proximity of our cottages we prefer not to have small children (under 5) in the months of July and August with the exception of the Balcon cottage which is set apart from the rest of the houses.

Why the Owner Chose Luarca
Asturias is beautiful. Originally, we only wanted a small place to call our own while we continued to live in New York City. However, after purchasing the farm we decided to try our hand at raising animals, having an organic garden and here we are today doing just that. The holiday homes are all the original stone houses that have been here through time. We first restored La Cumbre for ourselves and in 2002 began the renovations of the remaining houses. The projects and improvements never end and the adventure in country living continues.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
The peace and quiet, the clean air and water but most of all the fantastic and changing views are what we enjoy the most. We are perched above the Atlantic Ocean with the pretty farming valley of San Martin de Luiña below us. With the constant changes of light and weather we never tire of looking out across the mountains and sea. This is a perfectly rural location with the only sounds being the birds, the cowbells and farm animals. No traffic. No smog. No car alarms. This is truly a romantic hideaway.

I felt like Heide during our week stay in the Balcon cottage. You can't capture in pictures the peace and quiet, the views of the mountains, little towns below and the ocean in the distance - just spectacular. Pepe and Lynn could not have been kinder. We really struggled leaving and our adjustment to Barcelona was a challenge. If I could have, I would have made my way back to Asturias immediatedly.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We were hoping for a peaceful and relaxed holiday in lovely surroundings. El Pajar has more than exceeded our expectations! You feel at home as soon as you walk onto the farm and feel instantly relaxed. The house is lovely and the scenery stunning. Everythng here seems to be done in a caring way and the gentle atmoshere is a joy to experience. Thank you to Lynn and Pepe for your very friendly hospitality-we will certainly return.
