Be pleasantly surprised by Asturias, the Spain few expect or get to know. On the northern Atlantic coast, Asturias has a climate tempered by the Gulf Stream. The coast is mild in the winter and nights are delightfully cool in the summer. The mountains have pristine forests and wildlife. Feast your eyes on the beautiful coastline, fishing ports, green meadows and rocky peaks.
El Pajar is found on a peaceful hillside organic farm (smallholding), overlooking the mountains and valley below with an ocean view to the side. The cottage has been lovingly restored to make it a comfortable vacation home for two. All on one floor it has high-beamed ceilings, wood-burning stove, en-suite bathroom and queen-size double bed. Furnished with care it has a mix of new and antique Asturian furniture with attention to those details that count; comfortable bed, good reading lamps, cotton sheets and towels (laundered with natural soaps, sun dried and ironed) and numerous other touches that make a place special. The vegetable garden is behind the cottage with culinary herbs available for the picking.
El Pajar has exposed stone walls, chestnut floors and beautiful tiling both in the kitchen and bathroom. It's well-equipped, open corner kitchen, dining/living room has large sunny windows with a mountain view. The bathroom, off the bedroom, has a shower but no bathtub. Enjoy dining on the stone terrace in front or watching the wood fire on a chilly evening. Please contact us about availability. If we cannot accomodate you in the Pajar we have three other vacation rentals which may meet your requirements; Two more small cottages for couples and a farmhouse which sleeps 6.
Choose between sandy or pebble beaches, hiking the hillsides, exploring Celtic ruins or joining in the summer festivities. Stay home and enjoy our peaceful setting or in just ten minutes by car find yourself on the coast choosing a restaurant or a beach.
There are walking trails that lead from our farm to include the "Camino de Santiago," offering panoramic views of the coastline. If you yearn for city life while here both Gijon and Oviedo are under an hour's drive and make for fun day trips. Gijon has a superb beach and a renowned flea market on Sundays. Oviedo, the elegant cathedral capital, is an easy train ride away and has great shopping and museums. We love the beauty and variety of Asturias and welcome others to discover it.
La Cumbre, a vacation home (6 max.), stands in front and Los Balagos(2/3) next door while the owners (2,Spanish and American) live across the way to the back. Our last and most recently restored cottage, El Balcon (2/3), sits by itself a short walk up from our house and enjoys the best views of all. There is plenty of room for everyone with separate garden areas for each cottage and parking.

Note: We live up a steep hill which can present a challenge the first time up. If you can't manage, there is plenty of room to park at the bottom and walk up. We are available to help and guarantee it is worth the effort.

- Kid Friendly: Our place is well loved by children who enjoy feeding the chickens and sheep and are safe to explore as there is no through traffic or dangerous farm machinary. While the Pajar is small we have a farmhouse that sleeps a family of 6. NB: Because of the proximity of our cottages we prefer not to have small children (under 5) in the months of July and August with the exception of the Balcon cottage which is set apart from the rest of the houses.

We were hoping for a peaceful and relaxed holiday in lovely surroundings. El Pajar has more than exceeded our expectations! You feel at home as soon as you walk onto the farm and feel instantly relaxed. The house is lovely and the scenery stunning.
