Volvo Round The World Yacht Race.: News Flash!!
The new links between Knock and Girona (Barcelona), Hahn (Frankfurt), Bergamo (Milan) and Beauvais (Paris) will bring to 14 the number of Ryanair routes flying to and from Ireland West Airport.
Ryanair adding to their extensive services into Ireland from March 2012.
It will now be possible to fly from the above departure points directly in to Knock Airport. Knock is approx 60 mins drive to Cuach Cottage.
The Volvo Round The World Yacht race finishes in Galway for the second time in succession in July 2012. 'Cuach Cottage' is the ideal base to commute from. Book early!!
Interesting 'Cuach Cottage': Constructed from local stone using local skills and dry bedding technique. Some internal walls are 3 ft. wide whilst others are 2 ft.
It has a conventional pitched slated roof which is now highly insulated.
To the rear, their remains the shell of a stone constructed sheep's pen. Livestock would have been housed close to the dwelling in bygone days.
The fireplace is 'inglenook' type, however, this has been converted to suit a woodburning stove. In days gone by all family meals were cooked over this fireplace.
Local harvested turf was the only source of fuel . The turf fire would sit directly on the floor in traditional manner using all the skills necessary to maintain it lighting 24 hours per day. Most homesteads had their own plot of bogland. Plots till exist to this day.
We have installed a hand crafted entrance door, 1/2 by 1/2 last year made by a local craftsman, thanks Pat.

- The river is stocked with fresh trout is a recognised salmon run. The fishing rights in bygone days belonged to the neighbouring Ballynahinch Castle. Ballinahinch currently provides some of the best fresh water fishing & shoots available in Europe. Boundary fencing provides a break between the river and immediate garden. Pony trecking is very popular and excellent facilities are within easy reach. A beautiful walk to 'Lough Fadda', ie. long lake, is outside and towards the right of Cuach Cottage. This is an inspiring and very peaceful hours walk before dinner. There is also excellent fishing here, however, a license is required. Rambling within the confines of 'Cuach Cottage' is a must, as it sits on 4 acres, or simply sitting by the river reading a book, enjoying the scenery, and wildlife. Family visiting from Australia
Recent family comment: "Incredibly relaxing and comfortable" We stayed at Cuach Cottage for 5 nights in May. Despite less than 12 hours notice of our booking, the cottage was all set up and ready when we arrived. Liam and Marian were great to deal with on the phone and followed up to check everything was fine. The instructions to reach the cottage were clear, but Dominic (who looks after the cottage on a day to day basis) arranged to meet us in Clifden anyway and guided us there. The cottage is beautiful and had everything we could need for a comfortable stay. The turf fire is such a bonus! The location is just right, close to Clifden, beaches and walks but feels a world away and very private. Outside the back door is a little stream and there were sheep with lambs in the nearby paddock. Just perfect!

Swiss couple visiting "Cuach Cottage"
Dear Marian, dear Liam, Thank you for yours messages and sorry that I could'nt answer, I had only an old mobile without possibilities of connection. I phoned Dominic in the morning of our arrival; all was perfect . Now, we are back in Switzerland and so sad to have left your marvelous "Cuach Cottage". We have spent an unforgettable week. The weather was so beautiful. I wrote a page in your visitors book. You have a gem with your cottage. The decoration, the equipment, all is perfect. And what about the landscape !!!!!!!!!!! Each minute we said "Magnifique" ! When we left your home yesterday morning, my wife and me shed tears. We hope coming back With best and friendly greetings Jean-Michel= Just delighted to receive such kind comment on a Sunday morning. All completely unexpected, Liam & Marian, Cuach Cottage, Clifden, Connemara.

Christmas at Cuach CottageGuest comment entered by owner
Christmas at Cuach Cottage
Hi Liam, Here is my review - very happy for you to put in on your website or wherever you see fit! All best. Mary Cuach Cottage is an absolute delight. With its perfect situation nestled in the mountains with a gentle stream running alongside the house, it represents the ulitmate Connemara experience. Liam and Marion have created a truly special home here and have a real eye for detail. Unlike so many holiday homes this one is furnished with imagination, thought and care and is brilliantly equipped. We spent Christmas here and managed to deliver a full blown roast goose Christmas dinner the bijou litlle kitchen and spent many happy hours around the wood burning stove. Thank you Liam and Marion for sharing Cuach Cottage with us - we thoroughly recommend it for a west of Ireland break. • Bill K Chicago, IL USA What a Wonderful Experience! Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in October 2012 We had a lovely stay at Cuach Cottage. It's a warm and comfortable place in a beautiful location, convenient to Clifden and Connemara. The Youngs did a wonderful job in renovating the cottage and adding modern conveniences while maintaining its 19th century charm. It truly felt like home, and we can't wait to come back. Five star rating from beginning to end.

A Connemara Getaway
A Connemara Getaway
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage is warm and charming and the location is pure Connemara. We loved it and Liam and Maria made the whole experience easy and pleasant. We fished most days and had enough luck to make it even more special. We had 10-12 hits, hooked 3 including 1 good sized brown trout, and landed one brown trout which we released. We also got great pictures of an otter that visited us on occasion. But the best part of the fishing was the setting – to be able to stand out in the that beautiful environment with the Twelve Bens as a backdrop was just amazing. We hope to get back soon when we need our next Connemara "fix"!

Owner response: Thank you Robert. Great to understand you had a wonderful time at 2Cuach Cottage". Look forward to your early return. Please forward pics. of the very elusive Otter. Marian has spotted him/ her many times, [ When she was at the washing line ] but these creatures are so shy that any movement will send them into hiding, Best regards, Liam.

Recent visitor from London
Hi Liam & Marian. We both really enjoyed our stay at “Cuach Cottage” After a long journey from London (we could not fly as I'm 8 months pregnant) we arrived late on Sunday night to be met by the lovely Eileen who had heated the cottage and made it really welcoming for us. The cottage itself is gorgeous and while still retaining all it's original charm is decorated in a very modern and tasteful way but still in keeping with all the period features. It was also well stocked with all essential items so we did not need to waste time or money doing shopping (just for food only). The surrounding countryside is just stunning and we went for some great walks and cycle rides during our stay and experienced some breathtaking views. The owners Marian and Liam also texted us with some other ideas of what to do locally which was really helpful and we can highly recommend a visit to the nearby Ballinahinch Castle. fishing ranch for a Guinness and some tasty food. That said, when the weather was bad just staying in the cottage in front of the stove was wonderful and just perfect for a relaxing holiday. Have a wonderful Xmas & New Year. Thanks again for a marvellous holiday. Best wishes, Katie

tastefully renovated cottage
tastefully renovated cottage
This tastefully renovated and inviting cottage looks exactly as depicted in the photographs - except that it is significantly darker. Altogether we found it impeccable, even if - with utilities unnecessarily charged extra - a little on the expensive side. It is located beautifully and very close to Clifden. We especially loved the beaches around Roundstone and the wonderful Seafood Pub there, as well as the restaurant overlooking the bay at Ardagh Hotel.

Owner response: Antje, Marian and myself are delighted you and Richard enjoyed your stay in our holiday home.
Cosy, calm and wild.
Cosy, calm and wild.
The cottage is perfectly situated close to Clifden (10 min by car) but lost enough that you are never bothered by a car going by in the middle of the night. It is cosy, peaceful and inviting and surrounded by bogland. The landscape is breathtaking and the play between the light and clouds is spectacular. The house is a 'home away from home' with all, if not more, than what you would expect to find if it was your own holiday home. Liam and Marian were wonderful with providing advice on what to do around the area and were very reactive whenever we had a question. Wonderful place to come to with children. Don't forget to bring a fishing rod, a good rain jacket and some gumboots (wellies).

Amazing location and very well presented cottage
Amazing location and very well presented cottage
Just the right distance from lovely towns like Clifden and Roundstone and the peninsulas, without the long driving involved if you would stay on one of the peninsulas. Lovely original but well restored cottage, excellent facilities, beds and care by the owners and housekeeper. Tasteful interior and marvellous views and garden.

This traditional renewed cottage is both cosy and lovely. We just felt as if we were invited over to a friends'. It's also very convenient when you want to visit Connemara. Clifden is very near and all the wonderful beaches and places to visit too. L and M Young provided us with all the information we needed and the housekeeper was very kind to us.
