We are located in Central Perpignan, Just a few minutes walk from your apartment lies the Spanish citadel enclosing the Palace of the Kings of Majorca. A structure from the 13th and 14th centuries.
Having moved here from Australia, Perpignan has delighted us with numerous restaurants galleries and festivals.
The newly reopened market at Place de la Republique is just a few minutes by foot. This market offers fine wine and food from the region at very reasonable prices. The huge Weekend market is a short walk in the other direction. Here you will find everything from clothes to food and antiques.
Perpignan is more cosmopolitan than you might expect. In the old centre, elegant arcades and palm-lined squares open on to each other. The Place de la Loge boasts a pink marble pavement while rue de l'Ange is lined with smart boutiques and cafes.
Among the hotchpotch culture, there is thankfully no confusion over what to do at midday. Eating and drinking al fresco is obligatory, and there is a great variety of places to eat.
The nearest beach, Canet-Plage (ten minutes out of town on bus number one), is a swathe of white sand, popular with families. Just North of the Spanish border, the former fishing village of Collioure is what St Tropez must have been like before the yachts arrived.
A cat's cradle of cobbled streets punctuated by galleries and cafes - not to mention a splendid castle - set the tone. Henri Matisse lived and painted here.
