Ansouis farmhouse description
In a peaceful situation, surrounded by the vineyards of the Cote de Luberon, Ferme de la Platane has superb views of the chateau of Ansouis, and the Luberon.
The large rambling farmhouse, built in 1782, in the local stone offers three spacious studio apartments, and one with separate bedroom, each accommodating two people. Our aim has been to provide the elusive ingredients we were always hoping to find on our own travels--the character and charm of an old property combined with the comforts of home; good beds, fine cotton bed linen, and stylish bathrooms with plumbing that works. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of your own space in an authentic, 200-year-old, Provencal farmhouse; ideal for couples or a group of friends, who want to be together yet have their independence.
A large courtyard faces the chateau and leads into a walled garden, and heated swimming pool(chlorine free). Built in the style of a traditional old ‘bassin‘, it is edged in local stone and measures 14-by-5 metres. With its lawn and teak sun beds, the garden is peaceful and sheltered; the ideal place to relax and let time slip by. Seating under a spreading oak tree provides cool shade from the summer sun, and wonderful views to the nearby hills. With nearly four hectares of grounds, including our own vines and a boules pitch, there is plenty of space to explore and discover your own favourite corner.
All the apartments feature thick stone walls, exposed beams, original Provencal roof tiles, and handmade terra cotta floors. They have their own independent entrance and terrace to provide maximum privacy, as well as use of the courtyard, walled garden with heated swimming pool and extensive grounds. The apartments are airy and spacious and offer a combined living/bedroom area, with comfortable king-sized beds, which can also be made up as singles. They are decorated and furnished to a high standard and have built-in cupboards and/or antique armoires, sofas, and tables with chairs. The kitchen areas are separated from the living area by a change in level or dividing wall. In traditional Provencal style, they provide a full-sized vitro-ceramic cooking hub, fridge, sink, and combination microwave/mini oven, and are fully-equipped.
An apartment (45 square metres) on two levels, the entrance is via a stone stairway and sheltered West-facing terrace. The upper level has beamed kitchen area and bathroom, decorated in cool shades of blue and white, with a spacious walk-in shower, wash closet, basin, and heated towel rail. Steps lead down to the bedroom/living room. The east-facing roof terrace, overlooking the walled garden and pool also has lovely views towards the Luberon mountains and village.

Ferme de la Platane is just under a kilometre (or a 15 minute walk through the vines) from Ansouis, a beautiful Provencal village with a superb medieval chateau and church with narrow cobbled streets. (It has received 'Un des plus beaux villages de France' award). There is a boulangerie, cafe, newsagent and excellent restaurant.
Lourmarin, one of the liveliest villages in the Luberon, is five minutes away, with its numerous restaurants, bars and the popular Friday market. This beautiful village also has a renaissance chateau where concerts are held throughout the year.
Aix en Provence (25 minutes), Avignon (one hour), the Calanques of Cassis (50 minutes) and the Cote d’Azur (two hours) are all within easy reach.
As owners we have spent the last 25 years living in Europe, 8 in Provence and speak English and French. We now live here, although our house is quite independent and private from the apartments, and are on-hand should you need any assistance.
What to do:
Be as lazy or active as you like; restaurants that offer everything from Michelin-starred gastronomic menus to a simple plat du jour. Every day is market day in Provence. Visit some of the many excellent wine-producing chateaux in the Luberon. Wonderful walks and cycling, but also golf and horse riding. Isle sur la Sorgue is one of the largest centres for antiques in France and only 45 minutes away. Opera, theatre and music at the festivals of Aix, Avignon and Roque d’Antheron

Parfait! Our home in Provence was beautiful.
Parfait! Our home in Provence was beautiful.
The rooms, the pool, the location, the lavender, rosemary and other flowers were just beautiful. Our host was so helpful, making reservations, giving advice and directions. It is an idyllic place for lying about and relaxing. But, it was also the perfect spot for us to come home to after gadding about far to the east at the Gorges du Verdon and Moustiers and far to the west in the Camargues.

Much prettier than the photos!

We recently stayed in La Cour (June 5, 2010) for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Clean, modern (bathroom, kitchen), charming (garden, bedroom, pool, grounds, etc) we would definitely return, the sooner the better. Quiet, respect for privacy, beautiful views, peaceful country roads. Nice touch to have some start up food items upon our arrival. We hiked, toured, dined gourmet style in La Cour and at Ansouis, shopped at markets, read, rested, etc. Everything we would have wished for. Can't wait to return. Thanks again.

Comment Text: Rosemary and Peter's farmhouse is situated amongst the vineyards just outside Ansouis with a beautiful view of the chateau that sits atop the village. The location is brilliant for drives to anywhere in Provence and environs. Our apartment was so clean and modern, it appeared to have been completed just before our arrival. The bath was magnificent; plenty of counter space and a very large shower. The kitchen was comfortable and well-equipped. Rosemary and Peter made us feel so welcome, we would not stay anywhere else in Provence.
