Year Purchased: 2005
Having spent the first half of my life in Michigan, the Great Lakes State, I have always loved being close to the water. When my family and I decided to move to Florida, the number one requirement for all of us was that our home had to be on water - and it had to be fresh water because we also owned a boat we planned to live on while we built. Consequently, we purchased a lot in a small subdivision on a canal off the Caloosahatchee River, a waterway that runs from one coast to the other across the southern third of Florida.
I am a full time teacher, but have often dreamed of running a bed and breakfast. While I don't have time for that, being able to host visitors with my seasonal rental gives me great personal satisfaction. I love it when my guests tell me they have enjoyed the house, the pool, the view, the quiet of our rural Alva area, yet still are able to take advantage of shopping, dining and entertainment in nearby Fort Myers.

When our next door neighbor moved to Montana, we jumped on the opportunity to purchase his home. It's easy for us to maintain, and we are almost always available to answer any questions, help with directions, provide entertainment and shopping information, and always be on hand to welcome renters. We are happy to provide this property, the terrific Florida climate, and the active Southwest Florida lifestyle to our guests.
The Unique Benefits of this Canal House with Pool
This is a great place for a casual party. The screened pool area has a nice bar, large TV, stereo, half bath and lots of seating. Above the pool is an enclosed porch that runs the length of the house. This offers a view of the river and is a wonderful place to sit in the morning over coffee - or anytime. At least two bikes are available; the subdivision invites biking, walking, jogging, boating, kayaking, and animals (dogs leashed, please) are always welcome.
This is also the perfect place to do nothing at all. Take some time just for yourself or with s significant other, family, or friends. Close enough to busy Fort Myers, golfing, or a day trip to the Everglades. Or just stay home and relax.
