  I needed a getaway during the cold winter season, and Sunflower at Stonehouse was a wonderful respite. Joan & Robert were very welcoming, accommodating, and very hospitable. The studio is very well equipped with with anything you could need, that you didn't pack. The private deck has the most amazing view of Secret Harbor, and the sunsets are to die for. Things I would recommend: use the mosquito net on the bed, plan to take a taxi most places if you don't rent a car, and have a great time :)

  Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

  We just returned from our stay at the Sunflower and are already missing our views of Secret Harbour from the deck! It was in a great location, located near dining and entertainment in the Red Hook area. We took the ferry to St. John a few times during the week, which was also located in Red Hook, just a few minutes away. Joanie was so helpful to give us directions, tips, and even helped with our missing luggage situation the first night. She was a wonderful host and it gave us peace of mind knowing she was on the property if we needed anything (but very respectful of privacy). The condo was equipped with everything we needed during our stay. We really enjoyed having the beach chairs, cooler, and snorkeling gear for the beach. We plan to visit the Virgin Islands again and hope to stay at the Sunflower. :)

  Wow! The view from the deck is amazing. Great location nearcsecret harbor. Good snorkeling and good food on the deck watching the sunset. The cottage is adorable and Joanie is super nice. We loved the surrounding beaches and the location made it easy for us to get on the ferry for St. John. Great stay would love to go back.

  Incredible views, fabulous porch, cute studio, comfortable bed. . . Great place for a great price. The apartment is stocked with lots of extras-- guide books, some snacks, cooking starters, cooler, beach chairs LOTS of towels. Even sunscreen. Owners are great hosts and super friendly and helpful. This is our third stay on the property.

  We began our Caribbean adventure on St. Thomas at Secret Harbor. We lucked out with the weather, the place and travel excursions to St. John. But our most memorable experience will be our stay at Sunflower and our morning and evening meals out on the deck with the amazing views. Secret harbor was also one of the best snorkeling places and fun beach atmosphere. This was our first trip to the Caribbean and will truly be one that we will remember forever! Thanks J!

  I just returned from an incredible week long vacation in St. Thomas at Joanie & Robert’s Sunflower studio. The place is perfect with so many wonderful features. I enjoyed sitting on the deck in the mornings with breakfast and coffee listening to the surf and watching the humming birds. After a day at the beach I came “home” to a nice afternoon relaxing in hammock with a good book. One early evening I was treated to two deer right which was awesome. I was happy that I rented a car even though at first driving on the left side of the road was a bit scary. Having a vehicle made it was super easy to navigate around and explore the island as well as St. John. The location is perfect with access to the numerous beaches, Charlotte Amalie and the ferry dock in Red Hook. If you want to visit the island and be away from the pricy resorts, cruise ship traffic and the hustle and bustle of town then Sunflower is the place to stay. Cheers, Lisa Denver, CO

  We just returned from almost 4 weeks of pure heaven. Sunflower was everything we expected and more. The view is unbelievable and we very much appreciated the comfortable balcony for watching the sunrise, the hummingbirds, the small deer, the cruise ships and the variety of sail and other boats. Nothing can compare to the freedom of enjoying my coffee each morning with the unobstucted view of the crystal blue water. Sunflower had everything we needed and was so convenient to Red Hook, Secret Harbor beach, Blue Moon restaurant, the grocery store, and gas stations. We could not have asked for anything more. Joanie and Robert were gracious hosts and were extremely helpful to us. We have already booked with them for next year and look forward to continuing our newly- developed friendship.

  I thought I'd made a mistake! After Joanie got us checked into the Sunflower, my wife was on the deck. I came around the corner to take her picture and noticed she was... CRYING! I thought "oh no" and asked what was wrong. Her answer: "It's just so unblieveably beautiful and perfect...I'm just so happy!" She jumps up, gives me a big hug...RELIEF - tears of joy!! And she was spot on. We can't talk this place up enough, and can't wait to get back! Perfect view, perfect location, perfect hosts.... PERFECT! The Sunflower studio is as romantic as you can get - privacy abounds! Secluded; nestled in among the Pencil Trees and flowering cactus overlooking a to-die-for view of Secret Harbor out toward St Croix...the only disturbance you'll experience are the humming bird races as they circle the building and maybe the occasional gecko. Aside from that - it's you and the view! Joanie and Robert provide everything (snorkel gear, beach chairs, towels, directions, local tips). You'll need a rental car for ease of getting back & forth. We recommend the Blue Moon casual beach bar just down the road at Secret Harbor for lunch; amazing sunsets in the afternoons - you can catch the beginning of the sunset with a Pina Colada at the open air bar, then race up the hill to Sunflower to watch the finish from the deck with a glass of wine! If you like great steaks you've got to try the Delmonico Ribeye at The Pesci Italian restaurant in Red Hook - YUM! Our favorite beach-for-the-day on St John was Hawksnest (on the way to crowded Trunk Bay and Cinammon Bay). Hawksnest has decent snorkeling/great swimming - not as crowded! Coki Beach on St Thomas has good snorkeling but very crowded. Highly recommend planing a day-trip to Jost Van Dyke (White Bay). It's one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen! Emerald Beach on St Thomas (right by the airport) is also a great swimming beach and is a nice stop on your way out of town for lunch while waiting for your flight. In short... we couldn't be happier with Sunflower and Joanie and Robert as hosts! We're already looking at the calendar to plan our return visit. This listing is EXACTLY accurate! Photos of Sunflower are spot on but don't do it justice - you've got to see it in person! Exceptionally clean and well kept - grocery store about 2 miles away with everything you need to cook your own meals (also with an outstanding and reasonably priced wine / spirits selection). HIGHLY recommended! ENJOY!!

  This place is fantastic. Just got back a couple of days ago and miss it already. Working with the owners to get the property booked was easy she stayed in contact with us after we had booked and before arrival to make sure everything was ready. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was this amazing deck which looks straight down into the ocean. We sat outside every morning and had breakfast listening to the ocean and watching Secret Harbor below come to life. You can lay in that hammock reading a book watching the harbor while smoking a cigar and truly get pleasantly lost. Sunflower is conveniently located to everything on the East End. You can walk to Secret Harbor beach which is a beautiful beach without a lot of traffic a good restaurant and beach bar. Additionally the town of Red Hook and all of its restaurants, grocery stores etc is just down the hill and around the corner. Red Hook also has the ferry to St. John and charters to the BVI. The location is perfect for a get away that allows you to do as much or as little as you want. Sunflower has all the amenities you need to be able to make your stay enjoyable. We will definitely being going back, the owners are nice and easy to work with, the place is fabulous times ten, location is great what more could you want.

  This place is even better as it described. The view from the deck is just charmed. We even saw a whale in Nazareth Bay. Joanie was very friendly and helpful. We gladly used her advises about where to go and what to see on St. Thomas. We'll be back!
