*Pool Level* Enters directly onto blue and white tile floors in the Recreation Room: here is a blue top billiard table, a wicker seating area, a convenient kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator, sink, and microwave; plus snack bar seating for four. Outside the glass-sliding door is our 16'X32' large POOL, a HOT TUB for six persons, two park grills, colorful outside lounge furniture, and a picnic table.
Lounge by the sparkling pool filtered by salt not chemicals (converted Spring 2008), unwind in the hot tub, grill and picnic poolside. You're close enough to smell and see the ocean, stroll 500' to the beach, or saunter to shopping.
Also on the first level, a Queen master bedroom suite with iron bed, cherry furniture, combo TV/DVD, and a décor in deep blues & Provence yellow; plus a nautical décor kid's room with two white-washed bunk beds to sleep four. Plus an adjacent full bath with shower and a separate laundry room.
*Middle Floor* French doors open to a den, with sofa(bed) and easy chair, combo TV/VCR, desk, and access to the covered deck that runs along the front of the house. A porch swing and adirondack chairs are on this wide expanse perfect for watching sunrises. Three bedrooms on this floor include: (1) the "seafoam green” King master bedroom suite with top of the line Serta pillowtop mattress and large adjoining bath,combo TV/DVD; (2) a Queen size bed "waterlilies" décor in blue & pink, and (3) a bunk room with one duobunk & one regular bunk to sleep a total of five in a "whale" of a theme room. The hall bath features two vanities separated by pocket doors from the bath area; and we designed floor to ceiling built-in shelves for all your personal items in BOTH bathrooms on this floor.
*Top Floor* Soaring ceilings in kitchen, living room with a wide-screen DLP TV & DVD w/surround sound system. The open design includes a gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances. And the King Master suite on this floor is a romantic "cottage white" decor.
Monet's Retreat at the Outer Banks is ideally located in the Southern-most block on Whalehead Drive, walk 1.5 blocks to the beach, and walk 2 blocks behind the Monterrey Shopping Plaza (Food Lion, boutiques, and a movie theatre in-season) plus TimBuck II shopping & restaurants just across Hwy 12. Convenient but not on a busy street.
Monet's Retreat offer a renters dream floorplan that works as well for one couple as it does for an extended family reunion. Sleeps 17 all in bedrooms, so you have the middle floor den for quiet times (or use sofabed for 19 MAX), the ground floor Rec Room for billiards, and the top floor Great room (living/dining/breakfast/kitchen) for entertaining or to gather around the wide-screen with a great movie at night. Why the Owner Chose Whalehead Beach
We chose Whalehead Beach on the Outer Banks because of the large lots, the wide sandy beach, and the shallow family-friendly ocean with lifeguards during the prime season. We chose our lot because it sits above street level, and it is in the 1st block of whalehead which means you walk the same distance east to the beach or west to the shopping center. It's quiet but convenient and perfect for walking and bicycling. Who knew years ago, that parking the car would be so economical too!
The Unique Benefits at this Outer Banks Vacation BeachHome
Because we purchased our home while under construction, we were able to add a kitchen pantry (think 18 or so people and you know what I mean...what to do with all that food?) plus a second full-size refrigerator in the rec room. We also added renter-friendly bench seating on the top deck, floor to ceiling shelving in two bathrooms for storing all your "stuff", and a private den for internet surfing, watching a movie, or simply reading. Take a birds-eye view of the area from the top of Currituck Lighthouse, and be sure to take the tour of 4-wheel country to view the Corolla wild horses, and kayak on the bay to Whalehead Club historical home & museum.
Shopping - Recreation - Dining: Putt-putt golf, mini-motorway track, lots of shops, bookstore, gas station. Restaurants: Steamers, JR's, Groupers, North Banks,Subway, others.

The peaceful ocean views and sound of the surf are very relaxing, and though we have every modern convenience, it's a small piece of paradise, with a decor we find charming and completely different than our big-city life. Inside our artwork follows the "Monet" color scheme, which we hope you will enjoy for your escape too. We take pride in updating our beach "cottage" (as the locals call them) every year during the off seasson, so even repeat guests discover new surprises to delight them.

We're the original owners of Whalehead Treasure which we built with guests in mind....and we decorated with inspiration from Monet's prints (thus our home is also known as Monet's Retreat). Everyone who visits our vacation cottage (and yes the locals call a 3000 sq ft home a "cottage") comments on our attention to detail....we freshen our home EACH year and for 2006 you will find all new stainless steel kitchen appliances (look for updated photos in mid April), a complete interior painting, new (blue!) Maytag washer & dryer to celebrate the new CITY WATER, and new carpeting on the middle floor. My background includes years spent as an interior designer and I have had many guests over the years ask to adopt me! I am most flattered that the decor helps make their vacation! We love the northern Outer Banks, so if you just want to learn more about any of the coastal communities whether you are a first time visitor or a repeat guest, don't hesitate to call Grant. If our cottage isn't right for you, he will be glad to steer you in the right direction.
