The house has plenty of nice features: the view is pretty, the deck and grill are great, but we've rented several places on VRBO over the past couple of years and we were disappointed by several things that you wouldn’t expect to find in a similarly priced summer rental. • Bed linens were fine/nice, but bath towels all smelled musty even after we re-washed and dried many times • Poorly outfitted kitchen with a tiny, old coffee maker, a tiny toaster that burned everything, no proper lobster pot (A real lobster pot should be a standard issue item for a house in coastal Maine!). • The rest of the house was in good repair. • Surfaces were generally clean and there was no trash about, but there’s lots of visible dirt you don’t find in places where the owners spend any meaningful amount of time or have a professional cleaning service. • Listing pictures are accurate and the house can certainly accomodate a lot of people comfortably. As other reviewers have noted, there really isn't any usable waterfront. Basement is huge, but we had no use for it. • Owner was responsive for booking, but wasn't particularly attentive when it came to our issues and concerns including a broken glass item in the living room which could have been a hazard for the children had I not found it myself after we arrived. We wouldn't recommend this house to our friends at the rate we were charged. This house only makes sense if you need a nice big place to fit a large family or group and you dont sweat the details. If you aren't stuffing the place full, its not worth it. There are plenty of other nice houses in Maine. Most of our issues could be easily solved with a 45 minute shopping trip in Freeport and a professional cleaning service which I'm sure the owners will address in the future.

Ruined vacation because of misleading information

It is wrong to make you think this property is good for launching kayaks from the backyard or having a beach like advertized in the description as well as verbally from the owner. There is no beach and the only path to the water is very steep and multi-angled, leading to an even steeper, wooden stairway ending on large rocks, not a beach. The steepness and angles of the path and stairs are risky to negotiate empty handed, never mind trying to get something down them. This ruined our vacation because we couldn't do the things we were led to believe from the owner's description of the property. We would not recommend this listing to anyone wanting to use the water from the backyard.

We had a fantastic Christmas vacation here with our entire family. Our daughter, two sons, and their families all gathered here for the month of December. The house was so roomy and comfortable (plenty of comforters and pillows) - plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for all. The beautiful great room held our Christmas tree and three active children (ages 3, 4, and 5). Our new, fourth grandchild spent the first month of his life there. All of us enjoyed the nearby state park in the snow and Christmas shopping in Freeport. All in all, we could not imagine a more family-friendly, comfortable house, in a beautiful setting. The sunrises are unbelievable and, regardless of season, the setting is gorgeous. We would highly recommend it for a wonder family vacation.

Fabulous vacation spot! Home was immaculate and secluded for privacy, quietness. Yet, it was accessible to shopping and tourist destinations. The owner was accessible by phone to answer any of our questions. Flyers are available in the house to suggest activities in the area to do. Freeport shopping was great! We traveled to Portland twice to see sights and take a boat tour. We also went to Acadia National Forest and explored it. Along the way to Acadia, we stopped at the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound for Lobster and it was the highlight of our experiences along the trip. I would highly recommend this Lobster Pound. I would definitely recommend this property to friends or relatives. We had a fantastic time!!

My family and I spent a week in June 2010. We have three children (2,5,8) so each child had their own room, which makes it easier for my wife and I to relax. The home is very spacious and quite comfortable, with a wonderful view, very quite. If you want a nice home near Freeport with a good view in a quite area, this is the place. We stayed at the house, but made trips to Popham Beach (which is very nice), Portland Headlight, Boothbay Harbor, Kittery and others. Wolfe's Neck Park is very close by. Try Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster, Siano's (pizza) and of course Ben & Jerry's. A must is Wicked Whoopies. We had a great time and thought this was an overall nicely appointed, clean and comfortable property. We would/will use it again in the future.
