Enjoy the peace and quiet of this spacious 1400 sq. ft. home built like a Victorian Farmhouse with a 300 sq ft wrap-around covered deck on a private property. The home features hardwood floors, Berber carpeting and an Oriental rug. There are beamed ceilings and paned windows to give our home that cabin-like feel. Two of the bedrooms offer comfy Queen beds. One is downstairs. The third bedroom has twin beds upstairs.
The home is near the Fair Play/Somerset Wine Appellation and neighboring Shenandoah Valley Wineries. We recommend these nearby wineries. Check your search engine for Perry Creek, Windwalker, Busby Cellars, Saluti Cellars, Miraflores and Cantiga Wineworks. Our home is nestled among the pines and oaks of beautiful El Dorado County at 4,000 ft.between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. We attract renters from all over the country. Most visitors come from Northern California and Nevada. You may go on a wine tasting tour at any of the 17 local wineries and 30 more within 20 minutes! Check El Dorado County and Amador County for special wine events to attend. We are 8 miles from the nearest winery.
There are numerous historic Gold towns nearby that are full of wonderful antique stores, museums and more wineries. Visit the American River in Coloma and pan for gold at the original gold discovery site. at Sutter's Mill or go off road into the El Dorado National Forest that is near our back door.
Plan a trip to any of the winery events like 'Passport Weekend' and 'Fair Play Festival' in the Spring or the 'Apple Festival in the Fall.' Apple Hill is located in nearby Pollock Pines. It is a short distance to the snow and winter sports in the El Dorado National forest which borders the Grizzly Flats area. Check Map Quest for driving times from your location.
Stay warm in front of the cozy log stove.

This was our second stay at this quiet and peaceful farmhouse in the Sierras. We spend two restful weeks during July here with our grandson. My husband is disabled and the house is very comfortable for special needs. The area is full of delightful small country roads to travel on and small towns to explore. We took day trips to many of the local sights and also enjoyed just staying at home reading and playing games with our grandson. This is a great place for a family or a couple who enjoy the beauty of the mountains. The house has every kitchen applicance and cookwear anyone would ever need. YThe owners obviously care very much for the farmhouse and enjoy sharing it with others. Thank you, Dick and Sharon LandisRecommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Hi, Thanks very much for a thoughtful review. It is appreciated. Bill

Our family's stay was quiet, very comfortable and delightful. We enojoyed the privacy, the deer and the warmth of the cabin. My husband is disabled and the cabin was an ideal location for us. We have stayed in vacatin rentals many times across the US and this one is a keeper!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

3 couples stayed at this cabin Oct 8 thur 15, 2011. The cabin was great and handled that number of adults with ease. In great location if you like peace, quiet, feeding the deer and relaxing in a rural setting. Close the Sacramento if you like big city lights. Only 2 to 3 hours to San Francisco, Reno, San Jose, Yosemite - places we made day trips to. Long days but it was so nice to come back to our home at night rather than being in a motel. Great kitchen which we used to cook a good breakfast before leaving a couple of days. We also used it to cook a couple of time for dinner. Has a gas grill which we used one night. Everything the owner promised and more.Recommended for: Age 55+.

I had the pleasure of staying at this very nice home last weekend with 3 of my girlfriends. We were up for some wine tasting, apple pie tasting, and just an all around fund girls' weekend. What a PERFECT choice this home was. One of the girls is from South Carolina and had never seen Deer up close. We got there late Friday night, so no deer then. Sat morning we took a really nice walk around the neighborhood - it is so beautiful here with the forest full of trees, fresh crisp air, squirrels and deer. When we got back, there was a deer in the side yard - my friend missed it, but Sunday morning oh my gosh there was a Mama Deer and a baby in the front yard eating from the Deer feeder. It was so beautiful and amazing. This home is VERY well appointed, and VERY comfortable. I felt like I was at home. It is MUCH nicer than the photos portray. The beds were extremely comfortable. The home was warm and cozy - we only ran the fireplace briefly on Sat. night. This was a very nice surprise. I actually thought we were going to be further away from the wineries, but it was really a short trip into Somerset and some amazing wineries. This home was perfect, the location was perfect, and we will absolutely be back again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We have stayed at this lovely home many times and the only regret we have is that it isn't ours! Many vacation rentals are "sterile" in that all of the appointments are stripped (understandably) and there are no or limited spices, etc. Here you have a fully, and I mean fully, equipped kitchen. The forest surroundings are gorgeous. The deck is one of our favorite places anywhere. We have made friends with many of the local winemakers and wines are fabulous. This home is always in good condition and it seems that every consideration has been given to making our stay comfortable and relaxing. There are multiple recreational opportunities close by as well.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

What a house! We went on a girls weekend and we all loved it. The house is beautiful it is decorated to feel like home. All the little details were ironed out and thought of. There was not one thing we needed or wanted. It was great to have all the bird feeders and the deer come visiting. It has a giant front porch that we sat on most of the time. The only thing that was a little negative was it really is about 8 miles from Fairplay. But that was okay for us. I can't wait to go back and maybe take the husbands this time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Private setting on 3/4 of an acre but it seems that you are in the forest filled with Pines and Oaks. The home overlooks all of these huge trees with custom lighting inside and out. This is our home away from our Elk Grove, CA. home. We spend a lot of time here with family and friends. We built this home from custom plans. It was completed in 2004. Features are beamed ceilings in the living room and a cozy wood stove that will keep you toasty warm. The firewood is right on the deck.
Why the Owner Chose Fair Play:
The temperatures are cool most of the year. The elevation is 4,000 feet. Most of the winters are mild. The cabin is located 1 1/2 hours from Sacramento. It features access to the mountains, the wine country and Lake Tahoe.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Peace and quiet. Everyone who stays here loves it. We have many repeat customers. The wineries and the quiet and relaxed surroundings are the reasons. The comfort of the cabin with the fully stocked kitchen will exceed your expectations. The decorating is consistent with this property. We have spent many years collecting the decor items. We love to feed the deer and the birds. We sit on our huge deck and watch them eat. There are three bird feeders. The deer eat right off the driveway.
