Situated on a cliff at the north end of Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy, the house enjoys lovely views and gentle breezes. Tastefully furnished and comfortable. It has a mature garden and a fun sundowner deck just above the Indian Ocean. There is a gorgeous 12 x 6m infinity pool with a stunning pool house. There is a cook, a housekeeper, a groundsman and Maintenance man. The house has good security. Staff quarters can accommodate one extra if required. Direct beach access at low - mid tide. Steps to beach relatively steep for the elderly/infirm. Beach access at very high tide (for keen body surfers) or for elderly folk unable to manage the steps is only a few hundred metres down the road on the public access route.
The pool and beach: Kuruwitu Beach is one of the last unspoilt beaches on the Kenyan coast. Despite it being blissfully bare of people and beach boys , it is secure as there are 'askari's' patrolling for the marine conservancy. It is also unusually clean as the conservancy oversee the picking up of the debris that is common along most coastlines. The snorkeling metres off the shore is incredible - coral heads mean an abundance of tropical fish, octopus, lobster. There is a glass bottom boat as well as a fishing/dolphin spotting boat for hire. The conservancy also offer guided tours of the reef where there are even more wonderful snorkeling spots. The infinity pool set in front of the house has a 'baby pool' section. The adjoining pool house is large and comfortable with a bar and drinks fridge as well as a living and dining area, a water feature and sunbeds. The terrace below with plunge pool is not safe for young or unaccompanied children.
The house: The master bedroom has its own sectioned off veranda as well as a nook with a desk and an extra bed. The middle bedroom has a double bed and a sofa bed suitable for a young child. The rear bedroom has 2 single beds and a bunk bed. There is a small TV with a DVD player in this room. There is a selection of kid and adult movies that can be borrowed. All bedrooms have air-conditioning and standing fans in case of preference or power cuts. All bedrooms are ensuite with large bathrooms with showers.
There is wi-fi but guests need to buy airtime from Safaricom and log on to choose a bundle they wish to purchase with the airtime. Safaricom scratch cards are easily available including at the closest villages.
The sitting/dining area is big and very airy with good security wrought iron all around. It is tastefully furnished in a coastal style with wooden overhead fans and 'lamu beds' as sofa's. There is a games chest with scrabble, poker etc. The kitchen is relatively small compared to the rest of the house and is manned by Reuben who is a competent cook specialising in seafood, curries and swahili style cooking. Pili is the housekeeper and takes care of the laundry and general cleaning.
Activities: If you can bear to drag yourself away from the fabulous pool and beach - the world class Vipingo Ridge golf course (soon to be 36 holes) is less than a 10 minute drive away. The elegant club house has a good restaurant in a beautiful setting. Kilifi which has supermarkets and a bustling little town is a 15 minute drive away to the North. Dhow trips can be taken up the creek here. Diving is available at the famous Mnarani Club. There is also sailing and water-ski-ing available at the picturesque boatyard. Malindi is a 1 hour drive Northwards. Head 15 minutes south and Mtwapa has several excellent restaurants and tourist activities. The Bamburi Nature trail is 25 minutes from the house as is the Nakumat shopping centre. Nyali is less than 30 minutes away with a cinema, shopping complex, hotels and night clubs. Old town Mombasa (Fort Jesus etc) is approx 40 minutes drive depending on the traffic.
There are 2 sofa beds in the sitting room. We have additional nets so if you have extra guests (maximum 2) and they are prepared to 'rough it' this will be considered, though generally speaking this is suitable only for extra children or teens. There is an additional charge for this....moreless
The steps down to the beach could be difficult for elderly (although my 82 year old father in law manages fine) or people with mobility problems but the pool should be easy enough to use. We advise against children under 8 being allowed on the lower pool deck unless strictly supervised as there is a drop off into cacti. Care must be taken on the ocean side deck for children or inebriated adults!
There is good mobile network.
There is a small selection of DVD's on site.
The rear triple bedroom and middle bedroom are air-conditioned, the master bedroom has ceiling fans and one standing fan....moreless

Located 40 min north of historic Mombasa, the house has direct access on to the beautiful, safe and unspoilt shoreline of the Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy which offers fantastic swimming and snorkelling. The Conservancy offers: boat rides to spot dolphins or go fishing outside the reef/glass bottom boat/guided walks to the reef.
Fishermen bring freshly caught seafood to the door. Vipingo Village stocks basic household items (7 min drive). Vipingo Ridge (10 minutes) has a stunning clubhouse with a restaurant on its world class golf course. Mtwapa Creek and Nyali Beach (30-35 min) both offer good restaurants, night life, scuba diving, medical centres, supermarkets, water sports and alternative entertainment such as the Bamburi Nature trail, a water park, a cinema complex and a casino. Kilifi Creek (15 min) has deep sea fishing, deep sea diving, sailing, water-ski-ing, dhow sundowner cruises and The Boatyard is a popular place for lunch. However, once at Neem Tree its unlikely you will want to go anywhere.
Other Activities: Snorkelling, glass bottom boat trips, sundowner dhow trips, reef walks and snorkeling
Golf: The world class 18 hole (soon to become 36 holes) Vipingo Ridge Golf Course is less than a 10 minute drive away. The course was designed by David Jones and boasts a 5 star club house open to the public. Temporary membership with golf clubs is available at very competitive prices.
About the owner: We live in Nairobi, Kenya and have spent our lives in this beautiful country. We have been fortunate enough to have travelled widely and also own a small village house in Southern France. We eventually hope to spend half our time there and half our time at the property in Vipingo, which is my favorite place on the Kenyan Coast. I work as a photographer/casting and model agent/lead ladies tours to Morocco and India and also occasionally take on interior design jobs. My husband works with a company that designs and manufactures high end tents for lodges etc.
Why the Owner Chose Mombasa: My mother in law invested in this property some 16 years ago. She passed it on to her three children some years later and my husband and I bought out his siblings about 3 years ago and consequently invested more in the property, designing and building the pool, installing air conditioning etc. We will continue to upgrade and improve the house as funds allow.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The house is in such a unique position, the beach so unspoiled and the development of the marine park has made it wonderfully unique. We enjoy the most incredible views and there are lots of different chill out spots such as the sun-downer deck which can feel like being at the prow of a ship at high tide, the lower pool terrace, the sunbathing deck at night where the view of the stars is fantastic. No beach boys means none of the usual harassment that you find on the Kenyan coast. Stunning snorkeling just metres off the beach is not something that you find in many places on the E.African coastline. The Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy project is being used as a prototype for new projects along the coast.
