Couples or families are welcome at this beautifully renovated, immaculate cottage at the mouth of the New Meadows River, an hour north of Portland, and just steps from the high tide mark. Wake up to southwesterly views of Casco Bay, breathe in the salt air, and watch the comings and goings of local lobstermen as you adjust to a slower pace. In fact, any one of them would be happy to provide you with dinner fresh from the boat. Down a short right of way, kayaks, which can be rented nearby and delivered, can be launched from a small pebble beach where Adirondack chairs and a cedar picnic table overlook the water. The beach, with its tide pools, sea glass, and other treasures, is a magnet for children of all ages and one that will provide hours of entertainment.
A kitchen, dining room/living room, sun porch, bedroom with twin beds, and bathroom complete the downstairs of the cottage. Upstairs are two more bedrooms, each with a full-size bed. The cottage has electric heat for guests in early spring or late fall.
Just a mile away are an ocean side 18-hole golf course, waterfront spa, kayak rentals, sailing trips, deep sea fishing, bistro dining at the Pilot House, and casual outdoor dining at the Ledges Pub - all open to the public and located at Sebasco Harbor Resort. A brief walk will take you to Anna's Water's Edge Restaurant, and only two miles away is Totman Cove, a beautiful, undeveloped beach for residents and their guests. A short drive will take you to hiking on Morse Mountain, swimming at Popham Beach State Park, exploring at Fort Popham, and lunch or dinner at Spinney's. A state park pass is included with your stay.
Bath, with its many antique stores and the Chocolate Church Arts Center, is only a fifteen-minute drive. Easy day trips can be made to charming Camden or Boothbay Harbor, L. L. Bean and numerous outlets in Freeport, and the historic Old Port in Portland. Cultural attractions include the Portland Museum of Art in downtown Portland, the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and the Farnsworth Museum up the coast in Rockland. At nearby Bowdoin College, Maine State Music Theater offers professional summer theater at its best.
This is the perfect cottage if you plan to attend a wedding on the Phippsburg peninsula. It's close to Sebasco Harbor Resort as well as other popular wedding locations such as Small Point or the Popham Chapel, yet is reasonably priced so that you can afford to stay for the entire week. If you're traveling all the way to Maine, why not make a vacation out of it?
The local area has much to offer, and whether you prefer to stay active or relax in the sun at the beach, you'll enjoy your stay in these bright, breezy surroundings.

Cozy Maine Coast Cottage - Minutes from Popham Beach
Year Purchased: 1910
Why the Owner Chose Phippsburg
The cottage was built in the early 1900s and has been in the family for many years. In 2005, I took the plunge and spent six months doing a complete renovation. It was a busy time, as anyone who's ever built or remodeled a home knows, but it was also loads of fun and very rewarding to see the end product. When they were kids, my children spent all summer down by the shore, swimming at the little beach in the picture, climbing over the rocks, and spending endless hours checking out the changes since the last tide - just what kids are supposed to do on vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
One added benefit, by mid-July or so, is that my brother-in-law has his lobster traps in the water. You can place your order for fresh lobsters with him the day before, and he'll deliver them right to your door. Don't worry if you're at the beach or out exploring; he'll even put them in the refrigerator for you. Where else could you get that kind of service?
Popham is one of the most beautiful beaches in the state and only six miles from the cottage. A state park pass, good at any state park, is included in your stay.
This is another beautiful Maine beach. Just head back to Bath, cross the bridge northbound, turn right at the Dairy Queen, and drive down the next peninsula.
If you're flying to Maine, the cottage is an easy hour's drive from the Portland International Jetport. There are great restaurants and shoppingin the historic Old Port.
Freeport is the home of L.L. Bean and numerous outlets - a shopper's paradise! There are many restaurants and plenty of parking.
This is the quintessential Maine harbor village and should definitely be on your "to do" list. Many cruises are available along the waterfront.
Visit Bowdoin College, the Maine State Music Theater, the Joshua Chamberlain Museum, or Wild Oats Bakery.
Owner's Map of Phippsburg

The memories we made and shared here with our combined families are irreplaceable. We will forever remember our week in Maine with our children. Returning home from a day at the beach, getting dressed, and walking to Water's Edge was a highlight. Other than Percy's for breakfast, another great find was Southgate in Bath (where the locals go). Kathy, you have a lovely place here. Thank you for sharing it with us.

We have been renting this cottage for 3 years now and we couldn't be happier! We consider it our "Home Away From Home". Our family has been vacationing in the Phippsburg area for 22 years, and this is the nicest and most hospitable place we have stayed. The cottage is fully furnished with bed sheets, towels, and staples. Kathy always leaves a wonderful homemade bread or cookies to greet us on our arrival, and the cottage is immaculate. If you look at the pictures on the website they are completely accurate as to the condition and beauty of the property. Since we have experienced renting other properties in this area, we are well aware of the high mineral content of the water. Kathy graciously provides drinking water all week...something other owners do not. Wireless Internet and cable TV is available, and that is something that is NOT available in other rental places in the area. There are many activities and attractions that allow you to experience the loveliness and down-to- earth hospitality of this area. The Waters Edge Restaurant is within walking distance, there are two excellent beaches within 10 minutes: Popham and Small Point Beach. Nearby Bath is a beautiful and vibrant coastal city with tons of culture and shopping. Brunswick is close by and offers movie theaters, The Maine State Musical Theater at Bowdoin College, and the famous Fat Boy Drive In Restaurant (a wonderful return to how life was in the 50's and 60's...think Happy Days!). We love to drive down to Bailey Island and visit the Lands End Gift Shop. Freeport is about 30 minutes away and is the location of LLBean and many other high end outlet stores. If you want a true Down East experience, the Cozy Maine Coast Cottage is the place to be. It gives you a comfortable and friendly home to return to after experiencing Maine..."The Way Life Should Be!"

We stayed at this cottage for a week and had a wonderful relaxing time. The house felt like home with everything we needed including some wonderful Blueberry Bread on our arrival. Just a short walk to the water to watch the lobster boats come and go throughout the day. We made two trips to Popham State Beach and it was just beautiful, I spend much of my time in California on business and this beach was better than any I have visited on the west coast. Very peaceful. We are busy working on dates for next year!

The house is beautiful, the owner is friendly, and the proximity to Popham is wonderful. BUT - you can't drink the water from the tap (owner provides water she brings from her home), the little beach is full of broken glass, plastic bottles, and other trash - so I would never have let my kids swim there or walk barefoot, and when we stayed there the septic tank was nearing full capacity - so it smelled awful every time the wind blew. I just wish I had known these things before renting.
Owner response:I'm so sorry that these guests were disappointed. Many cottage owners close to the ocean have issues with their water. Even with a filtering system, I still have some mineral deposits, so I do like to provide drinking water for the convenience of my guests. The holding tank problem was easily taken care of with a package of Fleischmann's yeast. And as far as the little beach goes, most children put on their Crocs or sandals and love collecting the sea glass, skipping stones, and discovering what the last tide has brought in. If a plastic bottle is among the goodies, I would just pick it up and recycle it.

The little beach off the right-of-way was perfect for my Iowa kids to explore the ocean. Treasures from there will adorn our home and my sister's home and remind us of this week for months to come!

When we entered the house, there was a wonderful loaf of blueberry cake waiting for us. We have never stayed at a hotel/inn or B&B where we felt more comfortable!
