Our trip to Alaska was a surprise for my husband for our 20 year Anniversary and he was surprised. Our first look at the Glacier View cabin took our breath away! The cabin was CLEAN and for me (neat freak) it was detailed clean! The kitchen was organized and well equipped. The pantry was a wonderful shock...a few staple items that we could take off our shopping list!! The living room was cozy with breathtaking views! Main bedroom was roomy, the windows overlooking the bay spoiled us every morning! The bathroom was just right with details to personal needs. Everyday was coffee on the deck even in Sept... taking in the view and the feeling that we were the only people around for miles. Homer in Sept is a time for closing down shoppes/excursions for the winter, but we found a few still open and the people friendly. We spent one day exploring the property and did the hike down to the beach...walking through the meadow was beautiful. The beach was all ours and we enjoyed looking for shells, and watching a seal just off shore. The rest of the day was spent in the warm cabin looking at the many books, playing cards or just watching the view change with each passing hour. We did have two visitors that day two white cows came to enjoy the grass and have their picture took! Catkin you have an eye for detail and the personal touches made our stay splendid. We will never forget our trip and hope to return someday!

Great cabin with amenities, beautiful view, secluded location. Husband would have liked a path to the beach :)

Absolutely perfect! My family of four thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at the cabin. It was well-maintained, nicely decorated, and well-stocked with all those things that you forget to bring. Views of Kachemak Bay and the mountains and glaciers beyond the bay were simply breath-taking. The cabin is located about 20 minutes outside of Homer, so it's close to everything; however, you feel like you are truly away from everything. We fished for halibut, hiked, and toured the attractions in Homer. Most importantly, we relaxed and had some quality family time. Of note, a cow moose and her two calves grazed in the yard for two of the four mornings that we were there. Simply wonderful!

My wife and I stayed at both the Eagles Rest and Glacier View cabins. Catkin is a great hostess and runs a professional operation. Supplies were stocked which we did not expect and included spices, some condiments, coffee, etc. Not sure that's a guarantee but we really appreciated it. The views from both are wonderful. The glacier view deck is a bit more airy and has a fantastic wrap around deck. The eagles rest is a larger home with more family room furniture and a smaller deck. Both have their advantages. Both places are very clean and pretty new. Hope handles the cleaning and prep and does a super job. Both Catkin and Hope are very friendly and made us very comfortable. We saw a moose cow and two calves on the glacier view site along with porkies at the eagles rest. The small grocery and restaurant nearby are super with a nice selection of baked goods, liquor and meals. You do not need a 4 wheel drive, but the access roads are rustic and dusty if it doesn't rain. If it rained hard, you might find the steeper hills tricky but we had no problems in the rented ford focus. Catkin has some wonderful dvd's on the homestead and her family history. They are worth watching and are very interesting. You must go for a short tour of the sod roof cabin where the family grew up to really appreciate what it was like for the many (8?) that lived in the small cabin. It's not hard to understand how Catkin and her family hold such high values given such an environment. The walk down the hill to the beach is about 1/2 to 3/4 mile and isn't bad, but you will break a sweat on the way back up. I'd take some mosquito spray and water on the walk. Bugs are not an issue at the cabin sites. We saw eagles and whales down at the beach. Before the road was built, Catkin's family had to drive a wagon along the beach at low tide to make their way to Homer for supplies and such. You really need to walk down to the beach to get the sense of that experience. We plan to return next year and will book these cabins again if available. We grocery shopped in Anchorage before we arrived as there is no sales tax there, but in Homer it's about 7-8%. There is a Safeway at the Hoffman exit on the way out of Anchorage with really good grocery variety. We bought a couple of styrofoam coolers as the ride to Homer is about 5 hours. You won't go wrong here and look up Patty if you stay (resident in small rustic cabin whose husband is a demo expert for Hollywood). Enjoy!! Ted B.

My husband and I (from Atlanta) and my cousin and her husband from Anchorage stayed here for only one night. It was perfect. Amazing views, very secluded (although close enough to others if you found yourself in a situation that required help), clean and comfortable. Everything that we needed was available - wish that we could have stayed longer, but there's just so much to see and do in Alaska. This cabin is the kind of place that made me want to check out of the world for about a month and write a book - or read 50. The owner is available, if needed (we didnt need her). Pretty sure that my cousin will rent here again as other vistors come to town and want a little getaway. This cabin would be great for couples (2) or sight-seekers. It would be tough for young kids, or anyone who isn't strong on their feet. Both of the bedrooms are upstairs, and the stairs are steep and narrow (not the hall width, the stair depth). The bathroom is on the main level, so nightime trips to the bathroom can't be taken lightly. Was fine for us, but potentially risky for some. Just gotta be careful.

beautiful setting & close to Homer. Didn't get a chance to meet the owner, get a tour of the property or get to walk down to the beach as we'd hoped. Very nice cabin with everything you would need.

We loved our stay in the Glacier View Getaway cabin in Homer! The view is absolutely breathtaking and the location is very private! The cabin was very clean and they have provided everything that you could ever need. Additionally, the owners are great to work with. We will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I spent 5 weeks exploring Alaska. I have to say that this was my favorite place that we stayed! The cabin is so cozy and it felt like you were at home. It was very clean and very well appointed. I wished that we could have spent more time there. We had friends to come visit us that week and we were all very comfortable. The views are breathtaking! I highly recommend Glacier View to anyone. Catkin was so nice and gave us a tour of the homestead. It is quite an amazing place with alot of history behind it. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

We stayed here for a week. It is a beautiful place, like the pictures show & very clean. The panoramic view of mountains, evergreens & the bay is spectacular. We especially enjoyed having a moose and her calf come down the driveway and spend time right by the deck. We hope we can go back someday!
