What a wonderful weekend we had! From watching to fog roll into Katchemak Bay, to seeing at least 3 glaciers from the front porch, this was the perfect weekend away. We stayed during the summer, but I would have been just as comfotable in the winter. I plan to stay at Glacier View Getaway on my next Homer trip.

My husband, two daughters and I spent three nights at this cabin in July of 2010. Catkin and her son happen to be there when we arrived and gave us a little history of the homestead. The cabin and setting was absolutely beautiful. Our daughters asked if we could just hand out there. Would come back to stay again.

This cabin could not be more perfect for an Alaskan vacation- the views from the house are spectacular of Kachemak Bay and the glaciers beyond. We enjoyed visits from moose and sandhill cranes right in front of the house. Uniquely located on the original Kilcher homestead and owned by family members, the hosts went above and beyond to share the area's and their family's history. The cabin itself is charming, cozy, fresh and clean, and fully equipped. It is located just 15 minutes from Homer and all the activities based from there- we kayaked, hiked, fished and went bear-watching in the Katmai National Park. If we get back to Homer, this is where we will hope to stay! We have recommended it to friends and family.

We spent about 5 days here in August and loved every minute. Catkin was great to work with and loved talking about their beautiful property in Alaska. It's far out of town - but very private and fantastically beautiful. We had all we needed. Very well appointed and cozy and lovely. Really couldn't have been better. Saw moose on the way to the property. Enjoyed a private tour of the homestead which is very interesting. Hiked along the trails and roads and loved being at this great spot. Really have no negative comments at all...beautiful, lovely, and easy to work with. You should go. I'd love to come back.

The view from Glacier View Getaway is incredible. Mountains and glaciers are numerous from the front or back porch. The landscape around the cabin is beautiful. You can take a nice walk down to the ocean and actually see coal coming off the mountain. It is so quiet and peaceful. Catkin and her family were very helpful in telling us about things to see in the area. There are so many things to do once there. You can go fishing,boat touring or just sit back and relax. The Getaway has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. I would call this and incredible getaway. It would be perfect for a family or friends to get together.

Our visit to Glacierview Getaway was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip to Homer, Ak and Kachemak Bay. The location is just far enough away from town to allow one to trod the grounds of the “Real Alaska” – a piece of folklore, adventure, and, yes, even legend. In this idyllic setting you find that some legends are actually true! The photos do not do justice to this magnificent verdure of Alaskan splendor. The “cabin” is a wonderful living home that welcomes you with its quaint, yet spacious, clean, and well-maintained interior with amazing views of Alaska’s pristine environment. Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the Bay makes you wonder if you are awake or still dreaming. The proprietors leave no question unanswered (even the dumb ones) and are quick to accommodate. We used the gas grill to cook up some freshly-caught Sockeye Salmon, seasoned from the well-stocked kitchen. After dinner, a nice brisk walk around the homestead – even down to the beach for those wanting a bit of good exercise – reveals the day to day life of a working family. Fishing, hiking, and walking the Homer Spit are close by. Admiring the beauty and grace of the mountains all give pause to consider life’s real worth and wealth. We would recommend this venue to everyone!

One of my two favorite places to stay in Homer, the other being Eagle's Rest, right up the hill when we come with a larger group. Glacier View Getaway's fully modern cabin is clean, warm and cozy. The balcony is a wonderful to sit out on and enjoy the spectacular views in summer (without mosquitoes) till the wee hours. It's right over a large field where you can let your kids be kids without worrying about disturbing the neighbors and all while under your watchful eye. Further down the hill is the end of the Kachemak Bay which we recommend you walk/don't drive, and beyond that real snow capped mountains. You know you're in the midst of the wild frontier, but with all the amenities of home. I love the smell of this cabin. It smells everything good and real that a cabin should smell like. The kitchen is a full kitchen where we could cook that fresh seafood that we got at the Homer Spit. Take some time and explore the Kilcher Homestead while your down there. The main house is a short stroll down the gravel road. Recommend you call in advance and let them give you instructions on how to get there off the main road and drive slowly if you are not accustomed to driving on one lane gravel/dirt roads. But this is one trek that is worth making. You'll be glad you did.

Very nice. It is like living in a bit of history. This cabin is cozy with a view so big it comes indoors. The family homestead this cabin is built on is history in the flesh. After seeing a DVD about the patriarch taming this land it takes on a whole new dimension. The owners are very attentive and the cabin has everything you need, just bring food and drink. Sheets are crisp, towels are fluffy and all the gadgets work. Low stress vacation spot.
