The picturesque Botev Houses are located in the outskirts of the rural village of Mirovets: a slanting, hilly landscape in northeastern Bulgaria. All of the three houses were renovated in a traditional Bulgarian style, though all of them provide contemporary comfort. The Botev Houses are embedded in a 1-hectare private property with a swimming pool. Each of them has a wonderful view of the surrounding landscapes. It's the perfect place to trade tension and stress for a refreshing share of 'sweet doing nothing'.
Mirovets has a view of the Beli Lom Lake, which is 9 km long and forms an attraction pole for a large variety of waterfowls. The village is known as 'the stork village’: every spring storks arrive to build their nests on the lamp posts that tower above Mirovets’ rooftops. All summer long, you can see these majestic birds floating with graceful wing beat, through the valleys or high in the sky. A feast for the eyes!
Tourism in north-eastern Bulgaria: Sreburna UNESCO biosphere reserve (west of Silistra) The reserve contains some wetlands and a freshwater lake, one kilometre south of the Danube River. It is one of Bulgaria's main wild bird habitats. The species living there are, amongst others: ducks, herons, cormorants, spoonbills and Dalmatian pelicans.
Balchik and Kaliakra (north of Varna) Balchik is a romantic costal town with picturesque alleys and houses. A bit more outside of the town lies former Romanian queen Marie’s palace, surrounded by a beautiful botanic garden.
Not too far from Balchik you will find Kaliakra: a rocky point with red limestone cliffs, sticking out 2 km into the sea. Ruins of a fortress that throughout history was controlled by Greeks, Romans, Bulgarians and Ottomans, still remain.
Nesebar (north of Burgas) The old town of Nesebar, located on a rocky peninsula, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its origin dates back till the Thracians. This town with its traditional and historical houses, churches and monuments, breathes a unique atmosphere.
Thracian tomb of Sveshtari (west of Isperih) The tomb (dating from the 3th century CE) was not discovered until 1982. Its murals and caryatids offer a unique view on ancient Thracian architecture.
Madara (east of Shumen) Madara is a historical village at the foot of some sheer cliffs. On top of one of these cliffs, the remarkable 8th or 9th-century relief of the Madara Rider (UNESCO World Heritage) watches over the village.
The Tombul Mosque in Shumen With its understated courtyard, the Ottoman Tombul Mosque is the biggest in-use mosque of Bulgaria.
Veliko Tarnovo According to many Bulgarians Veliko Tarnovo is the most authentic Bulgarian city: it represents the country’s rich past. This city wonderfully located up in the mountains and offers beautiful architecture and a wealth of historical sites. Moreover, Veliko Tarnovo is cosy yet vivid during both day and night.
Bozhentsi (east of Gabrovo) Bozhentsi is located in the middle of the forests, at the foot of the Balkans. It is a small village –also included in the monuments list – and displays clinker streets and stone tiles. Over 100 restored houses now serve as a museum, shop, guesthouse or inn.
