- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This unusual and intimate streamside home is located ten yards from a water-course that tumbles into three pools. Another larger river also freeflows through the property.
The hand-crafted home has an airy layout with excellent views of not only the streams and pools on the site itself but also of the more distant mountains and a waterfall. The main house has one bedroom as well as the living and eating areas and a great lanai.
Also available are a cottage with one bedroom and full bath, and a smaller screened cottage with a full bed and half-bath. The entire 3 acre property is only available as one rental and is not split up.
A Riverhouse is located just one mile from the beach and is situated midway between, to the east, Hanalei and Lumahai Beaches, and to the west are located both the world-renown Tunnels Beach as well as Ke'e beach and the start of the Na Pali Trail..
This home welcomes you with the sounds of cascading waters and songs of myriad birds! Lush jungle vegetation, privacy, relaxation, cool mountain breezes and beauty will surround you. Riverhouse is the epitomy of laid back old rural Hawaii. And the North Shore's famous beaches, restaurants, and eclectic shops are just a few short miles away!
Beware there is a semi-resident kitty cat, ChuChee who is politely fond of a little affection!

My family and I stayed here last August and now that we are heading back to Kauai I felt I should review this property. Once you get to The River House, there's little interest in leaving. With a group of six, three couples, we each had our own private sleeping areas. The sound of the water and breeze bid us goodnight every day. Of course, the sound of the rooster at 4am bid us good morning, but such is the nature of the island. This property is tucked away from everything and to some that may feel intimidating but it's a perfectly safe and serene environment. In fact, it's the isolation that is so amazing. You can sit out on the patio and listen to nature for hours. It's a great location for going to Tunnels Beach and Ke'e Beach. You may even find some goodies to take to the beach (snorkel masks and fins, coolers, beach mats, etc) in the gear closet. This unit has everything you could ask for. It does not have a/c but the cool breeze should do just fine, no matter the time of year. We did take the advice of previous reviews and made sure to clean the kitchen thoroughly before leaving on any adventures. Doing so kept us from ever having any ant issues. Overall, this is a perfect place for a nature loving family. It's truly peaceful and relaxing and worth the drive!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I cant thank Amanda and Rocky enough for sharing their beautiful home and property. The amenities were fantastic and our family of 10 had a wonderful experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. The grounds are amazing and our kids were out on adventures daily exploring the river and jungle. The homes on the property are clean with amazing architecture in the main house as well as a great kitchen. One recommendation is to bring bug spray which helped us with bites. Close to the beaches and a 10 minute drive to Hanalei makes this the perfect location for those not looking for a hotel experience. Cant wait to go back and stay at the river house. Think "Garden of Eden"! My husband and I have stayed at the River House several times and we love this property. The first time I walked up to the Main House I felt enveloped in a soothing, calming energy. The house is beautiful and the cottage and " the bird's nest" are charming. The property is absolutely breathtaking with the sound of the river and the jungle birds in the background. There are several different types of tropical fruit trees and the property is abundant with orchids, gingers, birds-of-paradise, etc. Hanalei Beach is minutes away and is one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet! If you are looking for a vacation experience with privacy and a place to unwind, you will love this property!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is our first visit for my husband and myself and daughter and her husband. We fell in love with your house, gardens and waterfalls immediately. The perfume from the plants and trees is intoxicating. I saw so many different birds and I laughed at the antics of the Hawaiian ducks who visited the pool each evening. I was captivated by the jade vine which i had never seen before. The beauty, sound of the waters and solitude was food for our souls and a much needed break. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. We hope to visit for longer next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We kept meaning to head out for more explorations and adventures, but opting to stay "home" to listen to the rush of the rivers and the calls of the birds and to watch the swaying leaves and branches, the dramatic sudden downpours and the mists moving across the mountaintops. The gardens are like a little corner of heaven. And the house, a refuge of airy comfort and ease. We are very sorry to be leaving and we thank you for the many charms and conveniences you have provided for guests at Riverhouse.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Staying at the river house is truely relaxed bliss. Here you recieve what you imagined kauai to be as a kid when you could only dream of going. privacy, Tranquility, comfort, unique arcitecture and landscape and everything that one or six could need to vacation, just bring Clothing and food. This is a great place for a family trip or honymoon and is not over priced like most resorts. We dont even want to leave for the day.... I'll save touring for the rest of my stay. If I knew what I know now, I'd have booked our whole stay here:) Thank you R and A for sharing your beautiful home with our family. We can hardly wait to our return. Yours truely One Love B.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our family stayed here in July. Loved the site. Georgeous land with rivers and jungle-like setting. House is exactly as depicted and was immaculate. Back a long road with wildlife along the way. Great for adventurous- types. Roosters in the am. Great view of the mountain waterfalls through the kitchen window! We were here in the rainy season so it rained about 10-15 times per day, but no problem as the rain is usually short. Made for beautiful fruit and flowers all over the grounds. Great breakfast down the road in Hanalai. Go see the caves and beaches up north- worth it. I would recommend this site to anyone who wants a different get-away experience. (Just watch the rental company as they made several errors on our reservation.)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: Rocky and Amanda are only able to stay home here at A Riverhouse for about half of every year. When they leave Kauai, they generally head to Seattle where their boat is moored. They own and operate a 90 foot fish packer that collects salmon in the Alaskan waters and delivers them to the plant to be filleted and vacuum packed.
Why the Owner Chose Haena:
Early on we learned that the many humpback whales that we saw in Alaska headed for the Hawaiian Islands to spend the winters. We thought that sounded like an excellent idea and we came here to explore. It was love at first sight with Kauai's North Shore! And then, to have found this place was completely off the charts!
While we are here, we spend a lot of time working on the grounds and also enjoying time with family and friends who always seem to find their way to our doorstep!
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
To be back a few steps from the busy world is a gift. To be awakened in the morning by bird and river song is a jewel. To wander these grounds is a pleasure.
