"A cottage on a lake seems a little closer to Heaven", is etched on a hand-crafted plaque adorning the mantle of this comfortable all season cottage. Lakeside cottage provides the best of both worlds for vacationers to Door County. Nestled on the sunset side of quiet Kangaroo Lake, guests can enjoy the sand dunes on Lake Michigan, shop, dine, and golf in all the nearby villages, go deep sea fishing for salmon or a sunset cruise on Green Bay and return to their cozy cottage where they can take advantage of all the small lake activities like floating on a raft, canoeing, fishing or just enjoying a beautiful sunset at the bonfire pit at dusk.
Lakeside cottage was completely remodeled in 2004 and includes vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans in each room. A propane gas fireplace with a large glass door provides heat for those cool mornings, atmosphere for a cozy evening, and plenty of ambience for your fall and getaways. Guests may enjoy a large deck with a patio table where they can watch children playing in the water just a few feet away.
There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom and twin beds in the second bedroom. The bathroom has ceramic tile, a full-size shower, heater/fan and a large vanity. Bedding is provided, but don't forget your towels and your swim shoes!

Year Purchased: 1999
Gary and Judie Stang purchased Lakeside cottage in 1999. When they bought the cottage, it was raised off the ground on cinder blocks and was in need of many upgrades. In 2002, they raised the cottage off the foundation with a crane, poured a new concrete slab, and tore down the cottage to the studs and completely rebuilt the cottage. The primary focus was to feature the view of the lake and all decorating decisions were based on that goal. The cottage has been sought after since the renovation and many guest have returned yearly for their vacation. Gary and Judie have lived in Kansas City for 28 years, but are native Wisconsinites. They met in college at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. They have 4 children, 8 grandchildren. The entire family travels from Kansas City every summer to vacation at Sunset Shores.

Judie is an artist and loves her time at Lakeside cottage where she can paint beautiful Door County images. Gary loves to golf and fish. They both love to have family gatherings at Sunset Shores in the summer and those wonderful bonfires!

The cottage is about 10 steps from the water and the views are wonderful. Very clean. This is a very SMALL cottage. Can't walk around the beds in either bedroom without great care. Should be listed for 2 adults and 2 small children. Otherwise you are literally on top of each other. If you are planning on fishing don't waste your time. My husband who has fished many lakes in Wisconsin says they are very hard to find. As for price. I think the weekly rate is about average but the nightly fee that we paid for what we received was on the outrageous side when you add 11% tax. Also, this is a pet friendly resort so expect lots of dogs. Very disappointed.
Owner response:We appreciate the feedback from this guest. We have owned this cottage since 1999 and are 98% full during the summer and fall season and have many repeat visitors. We allow people to bring their pets, however we have strict pet rules inside and out of our cottages. Pets are not allowed outside without a leash. The cottage is small but we have totally remodeled it to maximize the space. We enjoy it ourselves so we know it is comfortable. Also, My brother-in-law finds fish in Kangaroo Lake all the time.
