For over 35 years The Hale Makai Beach Cottages have been among the most sought after oceanfront vacation rentals in the Hanalei area on the North Shore of Kauai. This beach front estate is unique among Hawaii vacation rentals, as it is perfectly appointed on the water edge at the end of famous Tunnels Beach. Our five charming beach cottages are nestled within 2 acres of lush tropical landscape with about 250 feet of actual beachfront. Each beach house has unobstructed ocean views, serene garden views and striking views of the NaPali range with direct access to the garden and the white sand beach in front of the property called Kepuhi Point. Our exclusive beach front property is located in picturesque Haena about 10 minutes away from Hanalei Bay, two minutes away from the legendary Kalalau Trail and spectacular Ke’e beach at Bali Hai. The Cottages are far away from mass tourism and high-rise beach vacation condos, a peaceful place to rejuvenate one’s body and soul. With two stylish two-bedroom beach homes, and three elegant one-bedroom beach cottages, Hale Makai attracts many different types of visitors. The majority of our visitors are honeymooners and couples in search of a romantic getaway, including the many couples who come to celebrate their special wedding anniversaries or important birthdays. A significant number of our guests come for their family beach vacations to The Hale Makai Cottages, often renting more than one cottage or the entire beach resort for a private and secluded family reunion. A substantial number of our guests have returned many times over the past years and have become part of the Hale Makai Ohana.
Beach Cottage 1 "The Plumeria", our elegant one-bedroom one-bathroom beach cottage is situated on the waters edge a few feet from the beach, with ocean views from every room and the lanai. Elegance and simplicity makes this Beach Home the perfect Kauai getaway for couples and young families.
Cottage 2, our "Hibiscus Beach House" is a two-bedroom one-bathroom beachfront retreat. The sunrise master bedroom has a king size four poster bed, situated along the beach, with breathtaking views of the ocean, spanning all the way to Hanalei Bay and Princeville. The charming garden bedroom has a queen size four poster bed and is nestled within lush vegetation with serene garden and ocean views. Our luxurious plantation style cottage has travertine tile throughout, an elegant bathroom, oversized spa-shower and a European style bidet. The sunny gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with high end cooking tools. Our beach cottage makes the perfect home away from home for a romantic vacation, a family beach vacation or a spacious vacation home for friends traveling together.
Cottage 3, "The Orchid" is our one-bedroom one-bathroom Kauai honeymoon retreat. Surrounded only by the ocean and lush vegetation nothing comes close to the views and sounds experienced from this ultimate beach home.
Cottage 4, "The Ginger" is our elegant one-bedroom one-bathroom Zen Retreat.

Cottage 5 "The Pineapple" is our two-bedroom two-bathroom ocean front retreat. This beach cottage is perfectly situated on the Hale Makai grounds, a tropical dream surrounded by lush vegetation only steps from the beach. The plantation style beach home has travertine floors throughout, two elegant bathrooms with spa-shower and soaking tub and a high end gourmet kitchen leading to the wrap around lanai with an additional dining and sitting area. This stylish beach home is ideal for family beach vacations and friends travelling together.

We came to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary never knowing we would celebrate so much more. The island truly is a paradise and no where is it more evident than the North Shore. Hale Makai allowed us to experience the beauty, serenity and peace that are so much Kauai. We could have seen it from other accommodations but not have experienced it. Our bare feet could not have taken only a dozen steps across lush grass to our own secluded section of the North Shore only at Hale Makai!! The view even from inside is indescribable with pen & paper. Sights and sounds we will never forget! We love it here. We loved the 8 mile trek to the falls on the Kalalau Trail. Hanakapiai beach, valley and falls are breathtaking, So-o-o worth each rugged step, and at the end of a tiring walk, we got to go a short distance to our beautiful Hale Makai Retreat-ahh. The trip to Waimea Canyon was beautiful and our Blue Dolphin Catamaran tour of the Napali Coast was thrilling – humpbacks everywhere! We so enjoyed meeting “Ms. Hale Makai” since we didn’t get the first name of the owner (sorry)! You are so kind and meticulous. Thank you for taking such great care of this sweet place. Our 6th stay at Hale Makai but first in Cottage 3. Beautiful as ever! All the improvements are wonderful and we certainly enjoy them. Weather this year was phenomenal! It’s so peaceful and restful here. We love it, Thanks! Hale Makai keeps us coming back year after year.
