For over 35 years The Hale Makai Beach Cottages have been among the most sought after oceanfront vacation rentals in the Hanalei area on the North Shore of Kauai. When you are ready to explore the other picturesque areas of the island, you won’t have to go far. Hanalei Bay is just a quick 10 minute drive away, and we are only two minutes away from the legendary Kalalau Trail and spectacular Ke’e beach at Bali Hai. Our great location brings you minutes away to the best highlights of the island, while providing a private, serene environment for our guests. The Cottages are secluded, tucked away from mass tourism and high-rise beach vacation condos, making it the perfect place to rejuvenate one’s body and soul.
Hale Makai Cottages sits on the coast, with immediate access to warm, crystal blue waters and the finest snorkeling. When you are not on the beach, take in our lush garden setting with coconut palms, orchids and plumerias all around.

Beach Cottage 1 "The Plumeria,” our elegant one-bedroom one-bathroom beach retreat is surrounded by full palm trees and tropical flowers. Gaze at the gorgeous ocean and mountain views from your private lanai or any seat inside the cottage. Inside, you will find every luxury to make your stay truly divine. The gourmet kitchen has a Viking range and custom travertine countertops that inspire any cook to create a sensational meal. Start your day with a bubble-bath in the large tub, or a refreshing shower in our modern spa bathroom. This cottage is perfectly designed for couples, with the dual vanity and heavenly queen sized bed. When you are ready to hit the beach, you are only steps away, making the Plumeria cottage an absolutely divine vacation experience.
Beach Cottage 2, our "Hibiscus Beach House" is a two-bedroom one-bathroom beachfront retreat, just steps away from the shoreline. Walk out to the Lanai, entering from the master bedroom or living room to see breathtaking sunrises, reflecting against the Hanalei Bay and the Pacific Ocean, while enjoying a fresh cup of Hawaiian coffee. The sunrise master bedroom is a room of luxury with a king size bed, plush pillows and the best view of the ocean. The charming garden bedroom has a queen size four post bed and is surrounded by lush vegetation with serene garden and ocean views. Our luxurious plantation style cottage has travertine tile throughout, an elegant bathroom, oversized spa-shower and a European style bidet. The sunny gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with high end appliances and cooking tools. Beach Cottage 3, "The Orchid" is our one-bedroom one-bathroom Kauai honeymoon retreat. Surrounded by lush vegetation and only a few feet away from the shore line, this cottage creates the ultimate ocean get-away experience. The large lanai catches all the ocean breezes keeping you cool and refreshed in the warm sun. Inside you will unwind to the sound of the ocean waves in the zen inspired environment. End your day with a refreshing shower in the travertine spa-bathroom and a good nights rest on our queen Phi-ton mattress.
Beach Cottage 4, "The Ginger" is our elegant one-bedroom one-bathroom Zen Retreat. With ocean views from every room and a spacious Lanai this beach cottage makes a perfect romantic Hawaii getaway or an exclusive retreat for a family beach vacation. From the Lanai, you have a wonderful view of the property’s garden and sitting area, allowing parents to keep an eye on their little ones from a safe distance away. The Simplicity of the interior design of the Beach Cottage attracts the traveler in search of peace and harmony. Our beach home has beautiful travertine floors, a lavish bathroom with soaking tub, spa-shower and bidet. Beach Cottage 5, "The Pineapple" is our two-bedroom two-bathroom Plantation Style retreat. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hale Makai Cottages. We felt like we had it all nestled here on the north shore of Kauai and now that we are home its all we talk and dream about. Hale Makai is wonderful; we stayed in Cottage 5: 2 large rooms, a full kitchen and a beautiful porch that we dined on each day. There’s ample space to enjoy your own quiet time, or a nice large common area to just hang out in with the sliding door open listening to the roar of the ocean. In the morning we would get up brew tasty Kona coffee, walk to the beach area, and view the breathtaking sunrises it was a great way to begin every day. Thank you again for a wonderful time. One final note; I’m not the betting type of guy but as soon as I got home I bought my 1st PowerBall lottery ticket, closed my eyes and thought if I win I’m going right back to Kauai (the north shore that is). We came to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary never knowing we would celebrate so much more. The island truly is a paradise and no where is it more evident than the North Shore. Hale Makai allowed us to experience the beauty, serenity and peace that are so much Kauai. We could have seen it from other accommodations but not have experienced it. Our bare feet could not have taken only a dozen steps across lush grass to our own secluded section of the North Shore only at Hale Makai!! The view even from inside is indescribable with pen & paper. Sights and sounds we will never forget! We love it here. Mahalo, Mahalo for everything!

Our 6th stay at Hale Makai but first in Cottage 3. Beautiful as ever! All the improvements are wonderful and we certainly enjoy them. Weather this year was phenomenal! It’s so peaceful and restful here. We love it, Thanks! Hale Makai keeps us coming back year after year.
