We arrived after a long drive from Dublin; the directions from the owner were very helpful and we found the property very easily. We were met by Chris who provided a warm welcome and showed us around; we were given the opportunity to ask any questions about the area and provided us with personal suggestions for eating out in Portmagee which proved to be very accurate. We were not disappointed with the description of the property; the house is very well presented and offers very high standards; the property is very well maintained. The house and surrounding area is in a perfect setting for a peaceful holiday. The views over the Atlantic are truly stunning and change frequently with the weather. The house is located just a short distance from Waterville and is located where it is easy to travel to other parts of the Ring of Kerry; this must be one of the most stunning areas in Europe and provides lots of opportunities to participate in activities such as walking; cycling; surfing; fishing and golf. We both enjoy photography as a hobby and this part of Kerry provides lots of opportunities for capturing stunning land and seascapes. Although we visited Kerry in the early part of the season we still experienced good weather on most days with some occasional showers; this didn't prevent us from exploring this beautiful part of Ireland. I would be happy to recommend this property to anyone looking for a perfect base to explore the Ring of Kerry.

We already had a real nice contact to John before we arrived. He gave us detailed directions and even recommended a nice coffee house for a stop on our way from the airport. So we weren't surprised that everything here totally met our expectations! Penny gave us an introduction and later on pampered us with her self-made tiramisu and lemon drizzle cake that we ordered following another of John's hints. John called the first evening to make sure everything is ok and to give us some tips on excursions. The house is really spacious and spotless clean! No marks on the walls, the kitchen is shining and also offers space. The towels are new, the mattresses are comfortable. The showers really have power, you don't have to hop between the single drops ;)! Normally traveling in southern Europe we haven't had that luxury before! All of us really appreciated the free Wlan, so we could share all those pictures with those we left at home. The view out of the window on the sea is spectacular!! We had one or two completely rainy days, but it didn't matter because we totally felt at home here. Even with six people you don't feel crowded. There is a big TV set, which also plays music, there are some DVDs, games, books, magazines. We explored the ring of Kerry, the ring of Skellig and went to Killarney national park, but the real highlight was our tour to the Skellig Islands leaving from Bellinskelligs! To come to an end of our gushing: We can highly recommend Loher Beach House and totally enjoyed our vacation here. Thank you so much, John and Penny!!! One advice: don't forget one or two adapters for your plug ins!! There are some in the house but they're for shavers only.

This holiday home was our home away from home for a week in September, 2011. You can't beat waking up every morning and having a view like this while you sip your first cup of tea. It is well represented in the pictures and description. It is clean, well-maintained and has all the modern amenities you could want. Penny (the housekeeper) and John (the owner) were always willing to answer questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The home is located so you can make easy day trips to Kenmare, Killarney and Dingle. It was so nice to come home too after a day of activities. In Waterville, we enjoyed dinner at Dooley's, The Lobster Bar and Smuggler's Inn. Across the street from Dooley's is a wonderful gift shop. And if you ride horses, you will really enjoy the Ring of Kerry Equestrian Center. This was my first trip to Ireland, and I'm already dreaming about returning and staying again at Loher Beach House.

The description was accurate; the property was beautifully and thoughtfully fitted and maintained to an outstanding standard, making for a wonderfully comfortable and relaxing week. The location is very quiet and peaceful, with wonderful views of the surrounding hills and sea. We enjoyed swimming at the nearby beach and walking from the door. Excellent restaurants and good shops were within driving distance. The owner was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and efficient, and the house keeper was warm and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our week, even though the weather wasn't brilliant, and we would certainly recommend this property for a quiet retreat.

My wife, parents, and I spent 5 days in this cottage, and we had a fantastic time. The pictures are an accurate representation of the house, but nothing can capture the beauty of the surroundin landscape. Each day, we were amazed by the surrounding tranquility of the farmlands and the breath-taking awe of the sea right at our front drive. Furthermore, the kitchen and bathrooms were extremely clean and modern for the area. We ended up eating in most meals, actually. One more important fact that may not be clear is that this house literally sits on the Kerry Way - a hiking path along the coast. We walked out with our backpacks across the fields with such ease - we have already started planning our return trip, and we will definitely stay here.

This was our second time here as we holiday regularly in Kerry and this home is the most luxurious rental we have found. The entire bungalow is superbly equipped throughout and the webpage description hardly does it justice. Comfort and fittings apart, Loher Beach House is set in the most magnificent location. The open plan layout really makes the most of the stunning views of Ballinskelligs Bay and the adjoining mountains; the sunsets seen from the dinner table were fantastic! The spotting scope in the lounge is a nice touch too - we found it very relaxing watching the variety of wild life. Lovely Loher Beach is just a short walk away and the new Skellig Bay Links Golf course is just along the road. We found it excellent and very good value compared to Waterville Links. Waterville itself has many great places to enjoy local food. I have to say that prices have come down generally this year plus the exchange rate is a good deal better. Next year is already booked

The location is terrific but the house in our opinion is overpriced by 30-50% compared with others we have rented in the area. The fridge is small, only one shelf in the freezer was accessible due to the owners food, there were locked cupboards (including the airing cupboard), no welcome pack, no soaps or shower gels, no washing up liquid and so on. The beds were v hard and the pillows need replacing. The extensive DVD collection comprises 5 DVDs + freebies from the Daily Mail. We were very disappointed with this house.

What a place. After we arrived on a lovely sunny day we quickly settled in. The whole vista is spectacular! The house is just so nice it was not like a holiday home. With comfy seating, lovely art on the walls rather than the usual prints, superb showers and a kitchen that is actually better appointed than our own, it was just lovely. The garden is beautifully planted and landscaped. Our children loved it with plenty of space to play safely there and in the super rock pools down on the local beach. The whole family experience was faultless. The owners were great to deal with and Mary the housekeeper made sure we had all we needed including changing the bed linen and towels for the second week – very refreshing to get such good service. Some of the things we enjoyed – The walks - so many just turn left and keep walking, Horse riding along the beach and right past the bungalow, rock pooling and fishing from the rocks for mackerel - we actually got enough for tea. We also drove round the Skellig ring which has some amazing sites and stopped at the chocolate factory – lovely!!. Overall just brilliant.

This place is not cheap but if you want to have a relaxed and pleasant holiday you will be hard put to find a better house and location. This house is not only well appointed with fantastic views over the sea but also has a pleasant airy feel due to the high cielings in the kitchen and adjoined living room. The location is pleasantly rural and out of the way yet with good access to local beaches and shops. On those occasional rainy days it was a pleasure to return to after a days sight seeing!

Although the home is off the beaten path a bit and took us a few extra minutes to find it, it turned out quite well, as the home was clean and comfortable and the views are hard to match anywhere. It was off season in Waterville so it was quiet, but that made driving much more pleasant for us as traffic was light and we were able to see the magnificent coastline of southwest Ireland. Homeowner John was quick and accurate with email responses and Mary the housekeeper took care of any needs that we had. A wonderful experience

We spent the week before Eastern 2010 in Loher Beach House. The house is very well equiped and very cosy, we specially enjoyed the big open living room and kitchen. From the living room, the kitchen and bedroom 1, the views of the Atlantic Ocean are phenomenal. The surrondings are very beautiful, there is a lot to do and to see around Waterville. The Irish are helpful and really nice people. We spent a great time in Irland and especially in Loher Beach House.

When I first looked at the pictures of this beautiful property and read the description, I thought "no way, nothing could be that good" - but after reading the reviews, we decided to book it and find out ourselves. We were not disappointed... what a beautiful home in the most extraordinary setting. The description was spot on - the property was perfectly maintained, everything worked, the kitchen had every convenience. We particularly loved hiking around the country side, exploring the beach, and visiting Waterville. My husband and son-in-law even got a day of golf in while my daughters and I took another hike and did some shopping. We visited in early October, just after the "season" ended. We enjoyed the quiet and lack of tourists, but the one thing we missed was the wonderful music that we loved so much in other places we visited in Ireland. If you are interested in traditional music, you can only find it on the weekends during the low season. All in all this property gets "two thumbs up" - we highly recommend it.

We stayed here for a week in September 2009 and can recommend the place to anyone. We came for some fishing, golf and general relaxation and this is the perfect place. The conditions were not ideal for the salmon and seatrout fishing while we were there, but the surfcasting and flyfishing from the shore were both good. The owner was extremely helpful with advice about the fishing before the holiday, and the local fishing shop in Waterville is also a source of up to the minute information. We played golf in good conditions on the local Ballinskelligs Bay course, but we preferred the Dooks course which is about 40 minutes away - a good links course playable in all conditions set in a spectacular position and with helpful and friendly staff. There are many other courses to try in the vicinity as well. The house itself is well equipped internally, beautifully clean and tidy and set in a great position for walking/cycling/touring. Highly recommended

Having stayed in the bungalow three years running, you can be sure it's a beautiful place to stay, both in terms of accomodation and situation. The location is ideal in that it is quiet but close to Waterville with its' excellent restaurants and bars. The house is nothing like a rental property, it has the care and thought normally only found in a home. The owners are pleasant and helpful and we have no hesitation in recommending a holiday in this property.

My family and I have travelled all over the European continent to places such as Rome, Paris, Venice, London, Mallorca, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Without question, our stay at The Loher Beach House was by far our favorite place, so far. The views from this true get-away would not be done justice with mere words. But, if I must, the views are spectacular. Ballinskelligs Bay, the countryside and surrounding wildlife provided the perfect setting for some much needed rest and relaxation. Aside from the picturesque landscape, the home itself was truly marvelous. A fantastic kitchen with the best amenities made cooking meals for our family of 6 a delight. We found the quaint, seaside town of Waterville to provide adequate supplies for cooking gourmet meals in a home with solid granite counters, full stove, conventional oven, convection oven and dishwasher. We were surprised to find a very clean and comfortable living arrangement with ample space for our family to spread out. Comfortable beds, clean and well maintained bathrooms with full tile and plenty of hot water made our evenings enjoyable after long days of exploring Kerry. Port Magee, Cahirciveen and all places in between welcomed us with warm smiles and friendly conversation. The local residents were very warm and kind as the welcomed us into their corner of paradise. Some of our favorite restaurants include The Red Fox Inn, on N70 just past Killorglin and The Blind Piper on N70 just past Waterville on the way to Kenmare. In Kenmare, we recommend the Seafari, a boat trip through the bay capped off with complimentary coffee and whiskey. If it's golf you're after...ask and ye' shall receive. There are two local courses to choose from; The Links at Waterville, a top 5 in Europe course, or Skellig Bay Golf Club which you pass through on your way to house. We found the course so breathtaking that we spent as much time taking pictures as we did swinging clubs. The staff was incredible and friendly. If you can't bring your own clubs, not to worry, they provide Titleist clubs for rent. The owners of this property were friendly, quick to respond and facilitated a special request for a bottle of champagne on our anniversary. The monetary transactions were seamless and the return of our deposit was without delay. We would recommend this property to anyone who wishes to truly enjoy a relaxing vacation with good food, good golf, great Guiness, stunning views and friendly people.

What a great holiday! We think Loher Beach House bungalow is superb, virtually new and exceedingly well appointed with all the luxuries of home and more but with views from the lounge that you would die for back home. The garden is huge and beautiful, in just 6 minutes we could walk to the sea. For those who love a game of golf, to go walking, fishing or just to chill out this is the ideal holiday home in what my wife and I believe is the best locations in Ireland. We stayed for a week in June, the weather was fantastic, we walked we fished, relaxed and had a truly memorable holiday. Highly recommended.

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday at Loher Beach House (June 09). We had an amazing time there. The bungalow was beautifully maintained, exceptionally spacious, tastefully and comfortably furnished with every modern convenience, and had stunning views of the sea and hills all round! It's the best holiday let we've ever stayed in. We had a whole week of glorious sunshine and had the added bonus seeing dolphins jumping and feeding in the bay at the front of the house, and at Waterville on consecutive days. We really can't find fault with any aspect of the house or location. Personally we enjoyed not travelling too far on any given day, but preferred to stay fairly local (quality over quantity so to speak). Derrynane beach is a lovely place to visit for a swim, paddle, or to explore the ruins of an old abbey. We had a go at horse riding on Derrynane beach- what fun, and such a lovely way to see the surrounding area. Most days-morning or early evening, we walked down the road leading from the house, and either strolled along Loher beach, and/or followed the road along to enjoy the beautiful views across the bay and lovely flora and fauna. Later in the evenings we enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine watching the beautiful sunset across the bay. The tranquil light blue sea had an almost metallic-luminous quality that is firmly etched in our memories. If we could only choose one excusion from the house (and there are plenty) we would choose the boat trip to the Skelligs. It has to be one of the most wonderful sights in the world. It would not be an overstatement to say it was an awesome experience. In addition, we also met some really friendly local people and tourists alike- exchanging stories and experiences with each other. If you choose to stay at Loher Beach House, you will not be disappointed. We had the time of our lives. Happy Holidays!

We thought the house itself was beautifully furnished throughout and had all the touches to make it a perfect holiday home - the magazines - the sound system - the books - the lovely outside space and all the home from home gadgets. My wife and I were a little apprehensive about renting a house off the internet and travelling from the U. S. to Ireland for a week. However, when we got there, we were most pleasantly surprised. Everything was PERFECT. The house was wonderfully situated on a country road about two miles from the center of Waterville, a small town in the southwest corner of Ireland. The house is new and has all of the finest and most modern appliances. The housekeeper was very attentive and able to answer all of our questions in a prompt and courteous manner. The view from the front of the house overlooking the Atlantic and the islands was magnificant. We took daily walks down the road in front of the house and were able to meet some of the neighbors, who were very friendly. A short drive took us into Waterville, where we encountered fine restaurants, a grocery store and shopping. Of course, the world famous Waterville Golf Links is about 10 minutes away. A closer golf course is also available for play. We travelled to nearby Kenmare, Valencia, Portmagee, and the Aran Islands for shopping, sightseeing, and just "vegging out." It was a great vacation. We will definitely go again and stay at the Allen house. Joe from Memphis.

T&M Alton, Hants, England. April 2008. We found the Bungalow very comfortable and welcoming, spacious and airy, with everything you could wish for in a holiday home. Placed just back from the seafront, with spectacular views all round and with lots of space for fun and relaxation in the garden. As an aside, the garden is shared with the local population of 'Hares' which are fascinating to watch. We were looking for a walking holiday and we couldn't have found better. As a retired couple, the walks, both from the bungalow and indeed anywhere around the coast were magnificent and we had no difficulty in coping with the terrain. Some lovely restaurants in and around Waterville and surrounds, all with a great selection of fresh fish dishes, as you would expect in a coastal area. Sadly, we didnt take our golf clubs with us but the two championship courses at Waterville looked in splendid order and challenging, to say the least. Thank you John and Ann for loaning us your beautiful retreat, we look forward to the next time.

Loher Beach House far exceeded our expectations, as the house and location is wonderful with breathtaking views over the bay. The house has been finished to a very high and luxurious standard and offers everything you need for your stay. The location really is idyllic - offering a relaxing and tranquil environment, yet only a short drive from the lovely town of Waterville, with great restaurants and local amenities. There are lots of things to see and do in the area, which means there's something for everyone or just sit back and enjoy the view. The house is a credit to the owners who are very easy to deal with and who go out of their way to ensure that you enjoy your stay, with recommendations on restaurants and places to see. We loved it so much we've already rebooked for this year. I highly recommend the house and area - you won't be disappointed.

The bungalow is extremely comfortable and well positioned for stunning views of Ballinskelligs Bay. To watch the seabirds (gannets) feeding is an awesome sight! The furniture and fittings are of the highest quality - a real home from home. The house was spotlessly clean. We travelled to Kerry Airport and hired a car from Europcar for a week. The journey to the bungalow took about 2 hours although we stopped on the way for food. The roads are good and not too crowded - particularly in June when we visited. Waterville is close enough to provide shops and restaurants - it can be walked but a car is a better bet and essential to take in the Kerry Ring scenery. The Oyster Bar in Waterville is a great venue for some local gossip on the latest catches - be it loch or sea. The food there is wholesome too, as is the Guiness! There are plenty of local sporting facilities - golf, sea fishing from the beach and boat fishing from nearby Caheersiveen Harbour to mention a few. The walks around the bungalow are terrific and no traffic to speak of makes for peace and quiet. A boat trip to the Skellig Rocks from Cahersiveen is a must if the weather is favourable. The tea shops and art shops in Sneem are well worth a visit, as is Killarney. Don't miss the views at Muckross and the pony/trap ride to the pass!!! There is so much to see and do around this corner of Ireland that you can return again and again yet never be bored. The weather patterns change so often that in one day you can experience everything from sun to rain and the seascape is extraordinary as the colours change with the weather. Thanks Ann and John for allowing us to use your home and for the chance to see this part of what is truly the Emerald Isle.

This stone cottage is completely modern, very warm, clean and beautifully finished with proper heating, first class cooking facilities and wonderful fixtures and fittings. Its a credit to the owners. The location is superb for the views, walks, beach fishing, sight seeking and the like. We were amazed to see hares in the garden and dolphins in the bay. I stayed at the cottage just after it was completed in September 2006 for the last week of the salmon and sea trout fishing season. I visited again in June 2007. The accomodation was faultless, unlike the weather, which failed to deliver the migrating fish for the week I was in Ireland. It did deliver the following week. Moral of this story...Take two weeks holiday here.

Beautiful pastoral setting on big hillside with some grazing livestock here and there, very quiet road, nice region for walking and you can do some in the immediate vicinity. Fair swimming within a short walk, but w/in 15 minute drive a truly gorgeous beach with surprisingly few people on it (nice sand, Irish landscape all around, boulders rising out of the sea, islands, etc.). The house was immaculate (new when we got there, about 3 years ago), clean and simple aesthetic, sunny feel, modern but comfortable, and all high quality (German appliances, Italian plumbing ... you get the picture). Stunning and peaceful view out the living room window (just like in the picture). Big, safe backyard for kids (we brought two). Long-eared rabbits in the yard a couple times; a cow across the street always; sheep on the hill; wildflowers along the road. Owners were friendly, reliable and accurate in answering questions. There were no neighbors nearby at the time, but I think a place was being built "next door" -- maybe 60 meters? Ask if you're concerned, but I found that everyone, resident and visitor alike, loves the serenity of the area so I wouldn't expect a problem at all. The little town nearby has a couple cute spots, but there's not a lot to it. We drove to the other side of the bay and beyond to a great seafood and steak pub/restaurant (I think they own their own fishing boats) -- best food in three counties (ask the owners, it's in their guest book).
