Our family was lucky enough to stay @ Villa Victoria for a 2 wk vacation during April/May 2009. First, let me say that the pictures on the internet, although lovely, do not do it justice...when you see the villa in person, it is even MORE spectacular. It can't be captured in a single photo. The villa was immaculately clean, the pool huge, the staff incredibly accomodating. The area is very safe and secure and is just a few minutes walk to a gorgeous beach. Andrea was charming and very helpful, we grew to love her! Cannot say enough about our wonderful holiday!! We are looking forward to returning in the future. Thank you Paul, Tamara, Jaime and Andrea!!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Deneen, Jaime told us about your family.. and also Paul shared some of the "adventures" that you had... We are thrilled that you enjoyed your extended family, the delightful weather, and Villa Victoria. It would be our joy to welcome you and your family back. Thank you for wonderful words... we are grateful. Tamara and Paul

Villa Victoria was all we had hoped it would be and more. The home is far more beautiful than the pictures suggest. My wife and I were taking a trip of a lifetime with our 5 adults children and we are so pleased to have found Villa Victoria. The owners were very gracious in many ways and we felt at home. Our only wish....to be able to claim it as our home! We stayed for two weeks seeking renewal from hectic lives. We left feeling recharged and restored. As others have mentioned Andrea, the housekeeper, is very sweet and soon picked up on our preferences and worked to please us. We offered many times to have her come back to the states to live with us but didn't get that accomplished. The Village is very safe sine there is an active guard right outside the gates. The Cofresi neighborhood is very quaint and we soon became familiar with the local shop keepers and restauranteurs. Familiarity in a foreign country lends a sense of home and security, you will find that in Cofresi. If you are looking for crowds and pristine beaches, maybe this area isn't for you. If you are looking for no lines, no annoying vendors trying to sell you as you relax on the beach, and no hassles Cofresi is right on. Ocean World, waterfall tour, zip-lines, etc.. were all worthwhile. When we arrived at the Villa, a gentleman came to the home and showed us all the options for tours. The tours pick up and drop off at your door. So convenient. Who needs all inclusive when you can have all these amenities in your own "home". BTW we met many people who were staying nearby in the all-inclusive resorts. They left them to get away from crowds and find good food at local restaurants. Confirmed our decision to travel as we did. Dominicans are very kind people and clearly rely on tourism as a source of livelihood. You will almost always find someone who speaks English if your Spanish is not so good. Most places accept American dollars readily. Many places do not accept credit cards or debit cards so be prepared (government surcharge makes it difficult for the small businesses to manage cards). An ATM is located at Ocean World a short walk away. We talked with some other travelers who were staying in Villas in the area and according to them, we found ours to be well maintained in comparison. We rented a car and were able to get around quite well. Crazy drivers there, but hey jump right in and go with it.) I highly recommend this Villa and the Cofresi area.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time staying at this villa. The view is stunning and Andrea is beyond excellent - she ensures everything is clean and tidy and her cooking is amazing (eating out paled in comparison). Having our own pool was one of the major highlights. We have a toddler and the owners were able to provide us with a high quality crib and high chair which was set up for our arrival. The beach really is only a short walk away. The house has everything you need for a carefree vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Before critiquing the property, we would like to thank Jaime and Andrea for their wonderful care. Andrea's food was unbelievable and we miss her D.R. recipes! Jaime worked really hard to keep the villa operational for us - and we mean operational. Now for the property - there were major issues with the property itself. Electricity to the property is supplied by the Sun Village resort. The resort went bankrupt in May and the villa was without any electricity from the end of August for almost 12 weeks. At the time the owners took our final payment, the electricity hadn't been restored and they didn't know when electricity would be restored to the villa. We also weren't told that the resort, for which there were supposed to be compimentary passes, was closed. The Cofresi Beach was a five minute walk but hadn't been maintained for a long time - hence it was unusable, actually disgusting and we were constantly bombarded with hustlers. Also walking at night from the local restaurants was an issue and we ended up renting a car. There was no hydro for 8 hours when we arrived and no water the next day .... so the saga begins. The villa doesn't appear to have been well maintained. Doors wouldn't open; tiles were falling off the backsplash in the kitchen; and the kitchen was infested with ants. We had to put detergent around the sinks and cooking area to try to control the ants but the ants seemed to win! The circuit breaker for the water supply had rusted out and on the 2nd day, there was no water. The float for the cystern was broken - luckily my husband is handy and figured out how to fill the cystern manually or we would have continually been without water. There was no backup power and the hot water heater had to be reset daily with each power blip. Lastly, during the extended period without power, the pool had to be repainted. When we swam, the paint came off mostly on our feet and the chlorine in the pool was so strong, you couldn't open your eyes. We badly needed a family vacation which was achieved; Andrea is a wonderful soul and cooks like a dream; and we thank Jaime for working so hard to keep the place running on what appears to be little resources. The owners were very apologetic and claimed they didn't know about the problems each time they called. FYI, Tamara apparently brought liquid ant killer to try to deal with the ants. We feel that the owners had an obligation to tell us what the situation was before taking final payment.Owner response: We regret that the stay of the party in the villa was a mixed experience, and the weather was also a big issue. However, the villa is not resort-owned and complimentary services are not part of the villa package, per advertisement. The owners changed the management beginning February 2010, hiring a new management company reputable in this area, to improve the quality of on-going villa maintenance, and make our guests' stay comfortable and enjoyable.

This Villa is out of this world..It is in a safe quiet location. When we walked in and saw the beautiful villa and pool we could hardly believe that we had just left 20 degree weather. If pampering is what you are looking for this is the right place. The beach is just below, the money exchange bank just below and the souvenirs are right by the bank. The best prices we could find right by you..The owners make sure that all of your questions are answered and their staff is outstanding. Andrea the housekeeper is a wonderful cook and keeps everything right in place, so you Mom's are truly on vacation. If you want to relax, this is the place.. If you want to venture out to the attractions they are at your fingertips.. We took our son and his wife there on a college graduation trip and they were in Heaven! It was a trip we all will never forget. We will definitely be back to stay.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have been to the Carib many times and this was our first visit to DR. We always "take a chance" and book accomodations ourselves. Paul was wonderful and the Villa is more than it appears in the photos. We enjoyed the time there and the Pool was absolutely huge. It is a very special view from the Villa down to Cofresi and the location is easy to get to. There is no way on earth that you can go wrong staying in this fabulous villa. The Cooking is great and a few restaurants nearby are very good!. It is an easy walk to the beach for a fun day.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Owner info
About the owner: Paul and Tamara Moore, proprietors of Villa Victoria, have spent decades traveling the world both as international humanitarian relief and development specialists, and exploring the primal beauty of earth’s most inviting destinations. Six years ago, we settled on the idyllic seashore vista of Cofresi Beach on Dominican Repubilc’s North Coast. Paul and Tamara share 5 adult children and 12 grandkids, and live out their passion of service in making a world of difference for good to those in need with enjoyment of family, friends and entertainment of guests in their Andes, NY Catskills Region Queen Anne Victorian home, their townhome residence in Washington, DC, and when unoccupied by guests, their villa in DR. Tamara’s Russian roots, and Paul’s vocation as a priest in the Anglican tradition have made for a unique marriage of cultural traditions and spiritual life that are reflected in who we are and those with whom we share life’s exciting journey.
Why the Owner Chose Playa Cofresi:
Villa Victoria presents the very best of a private tropical garden setting with an unobstructed panoramic view of the sun cresting over the ocean horizon and proximity to the beach, restaurants and Ocean World Marina and Adventure Park, all within a 500-meter walk. Paul loves the pool and patio for entertaining, but Tamara prefers the beach and horseriding.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The villa’s prize winner, from 100’s of guest reviews, is Andrea, housekeeper and chef, who tends to every detail of guest comfort and cuisine preferences. We also love outbound ventures, whether to a nearby primitive 29 waterfalls for climbing, Paradise Island for world-class snorkeling or kite surfing at Caberte, just 30 minutes away. The most special for us is the ocean view, watching ships coming in to the Puerto Plata harbor, spectacular sunrises, and refreshing breezes. Come once, and it will become “home” to you and yours too.
