Reserve a summer week now - - or two or even three weeks - - at our cozy, comfortable cottage on magical Islesboro Island. The sooner you reserve, the more likely you are to get your preferred week. A GREAT VALUE FOR A FABULOUS LOCATION. We are keeping our very reasonable 2011 rates for the "shoulder season" of June, September, and October.
Crow's Nest cottage, an easy 20 minutes by ferry off the remarkable Maine mid-coast, is a 100 year old, small, shingle-sided cape completely renovated in charming Maine island decor. Located at the northern, rural end of legendary Islesboro Island (considered by many the most beautiful of all Maine islands), the cottage faces the Meadow Pond, a wildlife refuge. The State of Maine ferry leaves from Lincolnville, minutes north of the lovely harbor town of Camden. Sleeps four comfortably. SMOKE-FREE HOME! For detailed information and many photos of the cottage and the island, see the link to our own web site below.
This is a place that "time forgot." Think about 19th century Vermont transported to an island in the ocean! If you are looking for movie theaters, amusement parks, bars, fast food, shopping, and crowds, this is NOT a place for you. Awesome beach-combing, walking, running, biking, kayaking, and birding area! Photographers and artists will be in heaven!
Prospective renters ask us, "Is the cottage on the ocean?". The cottage does not sit on the edge of the ocean, it does not have a private beach. If it did, you would be paying much higher rent. Instead the cottage is on a long, narrow island where you can walk, bike, or drive to a spectacular shore or beach in minutes. The cottage sits on an elevated knoll surrounded by a large lawn, with piney woods towards the back.
When you are not beach-combing you'll be hanging out on a large, marvelous deck. Inside, a large, sunny, open, combination living-dining-kitchen area is perfect for family enjoyment. Living room flows through into the dining room. TV with VCR and DVD but no TV reception - this is the time to brush up on your childhood card playing skills or pull out an old-fashioned board game - the cottage has a big stash! Sunny, spacious kitchen gives you plenty of elbow room in which to cook. As part of the large, open, main floor, the cook can chat with the kids playing cards on the dining table or your honey relaxing in the living room. With south-facing exposure and loads of new, large, insulated, windows with a view of the fields and woods surrounding the cottage and the Meadow Pond, the cottage is an awesome sunny place. Spacious mudroom for all your outdoor gear; new washer and drier.
Upstairs has a spacious, sunny master bedroom with queen bed facing the Meadow Pond. New large windows, cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan. Cozy, small, second bedroom with double bed. Mattresses are new and wonderfully comfortable. New, 100% wool Berber carpeting throughout the bedrooms and hallway. A SMOKE-FREE place. A bright, large bathroom with a great old tub and European hand-held shower unit.
Weekly rate includes house cleaning and trash removal. We ask that you supply your own bed linens and towels. Let us know if this is a hardship, for example, if you are flying to the East coast, and we will provide them for you.
THE PET SITUATION: We will consider one (1) - or at the most two (2) - well-mannered and well-groomed DOGS. They are NOT permitted on furniture and must be crated when not supervised by an adult. We ask AN ADDITIONAL $100 rent for each dog per week and an additional security deposit of $200 for each dog, in case there are damages or if excessive cleaning is needed.

Such a wonderful, restful time at the cottage. We had a mix of weather with several warm sunny days, a bit of fog and finally, rain, as summer surrendered to autumn. Able to gather some wild medicinal “gold thread” and mussel shells for an art project… So, so peaceful. Thanks again. We’d like to return next year.

… for allowing us this (last minute) opportunity, honeymoon-style. This has been a glorious week filled with moments we will treasure, always. The Crow’s Nest is a cozy and charming place and we certainly appreciate all the warmth and thought provided us. We wanted for nothing. The books, games, and films are a nice touch. Everything we needed was precisely within reach (and so clean!). Again, we thank you. PS. TO ALL…. Here on Islesboro and EVERYWHERE, , never forget to explore the side roads….

(.. 4-legged family members included)to stay at your lovely Crow’s Nest Cottage. This has probably been one of our best vacations, great to really (really) get away and enjoy nature, sea, sun, and family. We loved the beach at Hutchins - made that spot our own by building a fire pit out of stone and harvesting mussels for dinner one evening, cooking them on the beach. The bay was calm and great for kayaking off of Pripet... Your home is comfy, cozy and very welcoming.

Each day was laid before us as a gift - - to open and use as we chose - -as is every day, I suppose. An island holiday, however, makes choices much easier.

We have had a great time at your welcoming cottage. Everything one needs is provided and the island itself is a magical place. We explored different beaches and trails every day. Saw deer in the backyard! Relaxed and ate meals on your beautiful deck and watched sunsets from the wooden swing at Big Tree Beach. Had beverages and treats on our daily visit to Dark Harbor Shop. Thank you so much for the information package. Couldn’t ask for more in a vacation. PS. The stars are incredible here!

To me, this vacation was fun, I loved riding my bike to Durkee’s with my friend, fishing off the little dock across the street, and going to Big Tree Beach because it has a swing. I rented kayaks [on the mainland, from Duck Trap Kayaks] and slept in a tent. At first I thought it was going to be bad because there are no cell phone bars and no cable but there were so many things to do that it was fun. And there were lots of movies! It was great!

Our first visit. Very relaxing. Weather amazing! Beaches peaceful, we always had a beach to ourselves…. Town Beach and Big Tree our favorites!! (Kids loved the swing at Big Tree!). We explored the island and did meet Kristy Alley at Dark Harbor ice cream shop. Crow’s Nest was perfect for us!! The cottage was clean, airy, and was a delight to come home to every night. Dinner & drinks on the porch in the evenings. We spent a day off island so that the boys (12 years old) could kayak.
