You will love our place. It is a three bedroom (pillow-top king, queen and double bed) two bath home (plus den/TV room). Located on the "Quiet Side" of Mount Desert Island with panoramic views of Blue Hill Bay and surrounding Islands.
PERFECT for couples (very comfy KING bed, amazing water views, lovely private deck) and/or for families with 2 more bedrooms.... a wonderful retreat.
Very private, woodsy setting yet accessible to all the delights and wonders of ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. Fully equipped gourmet kitchen with granite countertops. Oak hardwood floors in all bedrooms. Fireplace with hand-painted Portuguese tiles. Nice basement space with Foosball table and washer/dryer.
Spacious decks (bring your yoga mat for sunrise/sunset practice) and screened porch. Bring your bikes, canoe, kayak: plenty of storage space available. Also wireless internet access of course.(broadband). Bring your laptop, iPad....or not....you could just disconnect and really relax.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
DO YOU HAVE WATER ACCESS? No, we do not have waterfront property. Yet the ocean breezes and sounds of the gulls following the lobster boats in the cove can fool you. It is fair to say we have the most spectacular views of the water...better than our lower level neighbors.
IS IT QUIET? Yes, it is very quiet. Our land abuts an old Maine cemetery. Sometimes there are visitors or they mow the grass and you can hear these brief sounds in the distance.
CAN PETS OR CHILDREN PLAY OUTSIDE? We own 10 acres and are situated at the end of a long private driveway. It is quite safe for pets and kids to be outside.
HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM BAR HARBOR? We suggest that folks look at a Google map to figure this out! But if you can't do that...it is about a 25-30 minute drive.
This home offers you everything.Wonderful peace and quiet to meditate, read all those good books, make a fresh seafood meal and really relax. AND a great base for all the amazing outdoor activities available on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.
You DO deserve a vacation.
WE WELCOME YOU!

What a fantastic place! So many great things to say about L'Acadie Cottage and the location. First off, we were extremely pleased at such an ideal house; clean, comfortable with all the amenities, and most important to us, pet friendly. The house itself has excellent natural light and panoramic views of the ocean. The outdoor spaces were fantastic, including a comfortable screened in porch, a large wrap-around deck off the main floor, and a private deck off the master bedroom with amazing views. L'Acadie Cottage is perfectly situated in a very quiet and private setting within spruce forest. The master bedroom was amazing and the bed was extremely comfortable - one of the best master bedrooms we have ever stayed in, making it difficult to start our day! One of my favorite things was waking up to the sound of lobster boats heading out to check their traps in the morning. The forests surrounding the property was full of song birds; our personal favorite was the wood thrush. Nothing better to put you in a restful vacation mode than the sounds of nature and hearing the lobstermen in the distance at work. The property also boasts a variety of wildflowers, making for great views out the kitchen windows and for walks and along the long driveway. As for location, last year we stayed at a great place within walking distance into Bar Harbor. After our stay at L'Acadie Cottage, we definitely have grown a preference for the quiet side of the island - Southwest Harbor is such a great town, and the physical beauty of the surrounding smaller towns is unsurpassed. Our favorite food places included Thurston's Lobster Pound (of course for Lobster), Fiddlers' Green for an all-around nice dinner and carry-out pizza from Little Notch Bakery/Cafe. Our favorite activities included swimming in Long Pond, taking the dogs for a hike along the Ship Harbor trail, biking along the carriage trails, the multitude of mountain hikes within Acadia (Jordan Cliffs and Perpendicular Trails very fun), and morning runs - another personal favorite route of ours was running along the cliff drive in Seal Harbor and seeing how the other half lives... We definitely hope to come back for a second stay. Our thanks to Bruce and Carol for sharing such a special place with us and allowing us to include our dogs on our vacation. We have been coming to MDI every summer for twenty years, renting a series of beautiful houses, and having a range of experiences. Coming this year to L'Acadie was a brillant decision. This beautiful, comfortable house on the "Quiet Side" of the island was a relaxing and restorative retreat. The view from the master bedroom is spectacular, and awakening there in the mornings was worth the trip. Every detail has been considered, and this is a truly wonderful home.

Outstanding home, beautifully maintained with many thoughtful touches. The home itself is furnished with understated elegance and has all the modern amenities one could want (super nice kitchen and baths). The bed was even more comfortable than what we have at home! Gorgeous water views from bottom and top sundecks and nice screened porch for evenings. Quick drive to Acadia, Bar Harbor, lobster pound and hiking trails. Lots to do and lots to enjoy. We were so happy this is pet-friendly property and we got to vacation with our lab. For those of you who do not need a pet-friendly property....rest assured that you would not even notice a pet had ever been there as home is immaculate. Would enthusiastically recommend and will definitely return.

One never tires of the views or the comforts of this home. From a well-equipped kitchen, to comfortable furnishings, to a beautiful fireplace (especially welcome on cool evenings), and many books, games, TV, WIFI and did I mention those balconies? We love Mt. Desert and this side in particular -- especially the working towns of Bass Harbor and Bernard, as well as nearby Acadia spots, particularly Ship Harbor and Wonderland. The conveniences of Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and other towns are not far away but it feels that way. Great place!

We spent a wonderful week at L'Acadie Cottage. The location on the "quiet side" is relaxing and provides great solitude and scenery. Sitting out on the deck, listening to the birds and watching the water is a great way to unwind. The town of Southwest Harbor and many other sights are just a short drive away. The house is very comfortable and well furnished -- a great kitchen with everthing you need to prepare fine meals, outdoor grill, lots of books about the island and Acadia National Park to help you plan your adventures, wireless internet, comfortable beds, etc. etc. They thought of everything! You won't be disappointed.

Carol & Bruce, Thank you, again, for your hospitality. We so enjoyed our 2 weeks at L'Acadie. The peace and quiet of the area is so relaxing and l love the sunrise yoga sessions on the master bedroom deck! We appreciate the privilege of being permitted to bring Jersey and Sabre along with us. It is so nice to have them on vacation with us! We (and the dogs!) love a full day of hiking in Acadia and then having a good meal, whether we cook at the house or go to one of the many fabulous restaurants on the island. We just discovered Red Sky in Southwest Harbor this year which was FABULOUS! We don't know how we have missed it all the years we have been vacationing on MDI! Thanks again for everything!

We had a most enjoyable stay this past July. The house is very comfortable with a great view (& sunsets too!)over Blue Hill Bay from the upstairs deck. The master bedroom is huge! This is a great base for exploring the charms of Mount Desert Island's "quiet side". Bass Harbor Light, Wonderland and Ship Harbor Nature Trails are very close by. The best lobster served on the Island is just down the road at Thurston's. The owners really care that their guests have a great time and will share their insider knowledge of this special place, including less traveled cruises & hiking trails. Wish we had more than a week!

One of the nicest rentals we've ever stayed in. The location was terrific - very peaceful. The home itself was beautiful with top-of-the-line furnishings, bedding, kitchenware, bbq. We cooked and ate indoors and out, and also made good use of the fireplace since it was a chilly week. We highly recommend this property.

If anyone is wondering whether or not to stay at the L'Acadie Cottage... DO IT! It is a fantastic property. I'm as picky as they get and was very, very impressed. Most memorable moments: Listening to the coyotes call out to each other at night under the Milky Way (at L'Acadie, the Milky Way stretches from one end of the horizon to the other)! Hearing the lobster boats heading out sea each morning at 6am. The deafening sound of silence... you WILL be pleasantly shocked! The amazing trees that stand like tall guardians around the house. The unique blend of pine/sea fragrances that act as a natural sleeping pill. It's a timeless place that makes you feel honored just to be able to experience it even if just for a few days. Yes, the rest of the island is full of things to do but its hard to leave that property and all of it's special magic!

Carol & Bruce, Thanks again for the use of your lovely home. It was a great place to stay! Great views, nicely decorated, well stocked kitchen, every modern convenience, very clean...and nice towels and sheets, too! We had a wonderful time in Maine....absolutely beautiful. This is our 4th time using VRBO for our family vacation and although all the places have been nice, I liked yours the best! The Meholics Baltimore, MD
