We are not sure there are words to adequately describe our stay at your lovely Red Blanket Cabin. When my three brothers and I began planning a 'sibling' gathering to celebrate a 60th birthday this year, our 'Google' search brought us to VRBO and the Red Blanket cabin was by far, the most unique and comfortable place we found. We all agreed, this was THE place we wanted to stay! In reading through your guestbooks (I read all of them!) while I found most people wanted to experience the local flora and fauna and visit Crater Lake and the surrounding areas, we had no plans on what to do other than 'bond' and relax. What we were looking for was a 'retreat'...a place away from work day stresses and a place to make our own new memories, and reminisce about our life together without the hectic pace that our large family gatherings often have. The Red Blanket Cabin provided that, and so much more! Our 3 day stay was perfect (and we are talking about coming back again next year!). From the moment we stepped through the front door, we were in awe, literally! If you had heard our ooohs and ahhhs as we went from room to room, you would have smiled with pride! As other guests have said, we also loved all the craftsmanship in your 'labor of love' and found something new at every turn. You would have grinned to see us 'stroking' the lovely woodwork and sigh at the soft, thick bathrobes, so nice after our soak in the claw foot tubs (the tubs were another nice surprise!). We fixed some lovely meals here, didn't go out to eat once! The fully stocked kitchen, the BBQ, even the S'more skewers were put to use! We so enjoyed you stopping by Thursday night and sharing a drink and sharing some memories of your time together in the Forest Service with one of my brothers. In fact, one of the big smiles of our stay here was the photo you gave us of him from way back in the early '80's with the Forest Service crew he was in! Every detail exceeded our expectations! From the bubbles for the tubs, to the immaculate condition and cleanliness of the cabin to the fire pit made ready for our evening under the stars (and S'Mores). We certainly will sing the praises of your lovely cabin and how it made our vacation something we will never forget!

My wife and I snuck off to the Red Blanket Cabin for Thanksgiving when none of our kids made it home for the holiday. We had an unbelievable time - this cabin is AMAZING. The simple reason all the reviews are 5 stars is that there is no wy to give the Red Blanket Cabin a 10. The woodworking, the Bon fire, the tubs, the long walks in the surrounding forest, and the excellent skiing around the Crater Lake rim - what an unbelievable trip. We will be back (assuming we get get in after the hundreds of people we have recommended stay here). This Cabin is the find of a lifetime. Really really nice, fantastic hosts, an awesome getaway. Well worth the drive down from Portland or anywhere on the west coast!

We had the very good fortune to stay at this beautiful cabin for 3 nights in late September 2012. The photos looked so lovely we wondered if it would be as nice in reality. I'm so pleased to say that it was even better! The cabin was spotless, the quality of the craftsmanship was incredible, the location to Crater Lake and the Rogue River was perfect. In addition, the cabin is very private with a wonderful yard and patio to enjoy. We even played horseshoes. And, Steve and Janna were always nearby if needed. We wish we could have met them face-to-face, but unfortunately our schedules never seemed to match up. I highly recommend Red Blanket Cabin and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

WOW!!! What a wonderful place!! The cabin is even more beautiful and comfortable then the pictures show. All around you, you see the love the owners put into building it. Every night, we sat out by the firepit and enjoy a nice warm campfire. It was so peaceful and quiet wiht nothing but billions of stars lighting the night sky. The owners are very easy to work with and helped us plan our first trip to the area. They even refilled the firepit with firewood every day for us and gave us information on area hikes ti enjoy. We have recommended this cabin to friends that are headed that way and most definately would love to stay there again. We enjoyed Crater Lake and the Mill Creek Falls Scenic area. The drives to Prospect are also extremely scenic with the beautiful trees and waterfalls. Our only regret is that our schedule only permitted us to stay for 3 nights. We are so happy we found this wonderful, peaceful cabin on VRBO and we plan to return but for a much longer stay. To the owners, thank you so much for sharing 'your labor' of love with us. We do appreciate all you did to make us so very comefortable.

When we stepped into this cabin, nestled in the trees, it was so "us" - we were thrilled! Steve and Janna have done an outstanding job building and decorating this get-away retreat. The woodworking is gorgeous and it has such a homey feel. We could not have been happier with our week-long stay at the Red Blanket Cabin in August of 2012. It was so peaceful, the only sound coming from the hummingbirds as they visited us while relaxing on the front porch. The cabin was sparkling clean, extremely well-stocked, and had so many beautiful touches throughout. It was a true joy to stay here and we didn't want to leave. Not only is the cabin itself great, but it is in a perfect location as well. The raging Rogue River is amazing and we enjoyed all the beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails in the area. Crater Lake is spectacular and we had perfect weather the whole week. We are enjoying all the memories and hope to return some day.

We loved this cabin. It was exactly as described. The handiwork of this cabin was unique & very detailed. It was spotlessly clean & well decorated. A very relaxing place. We spent the day at Crater Lake and enjoyed coming back to the cabin to relax in the evenings. It was a very well stocked cabin, all we needed to bring was our food & personal belongings. The owners were very nice & talented people. We highly recommend this place. We would give more than a 5 if allowed.

Red Blanket Cabin was the closest we've come to a home away from home and a piece of heaven. It was immaculate. well-stocked for those tenants who had to travel from afar, welcoming, and very private! It had many creature comforts: air-conditioning, a huge well-stocked bathroom, a comfortable bed, a TV with many dvds, a beautiful outside relaxing area with a grill and table and chairs. We were visited by hummingbirds who were so interesting to watch. The landlords had put up a feeder that the hummingbirds were regularly attracted to. The landlords were extremely friendly, good neighbors, and wonderful to communicate with. The cabin was stocked with many scrapbooks containing pictures of former tenants, as well as, books with suggestions of places worth seeing. It was a short distance from Crater Lake. If we lived closer, we would visit often! It's the GREATEST !

We absolutely LOVED this property! The first thing out of my mouth when we walked into the cabin was "WOW!" and I must have said it a hundred times throughout the duration of our stay. My boyfriend wanted to do all the legwork for this vacation and wouldn't even tell me where we were going so I really didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The cabin had everything we needed and so much more. I loved the complimentary bottle of wine! Every morning, my boyfriend cooked breakfast while I lounged in the sun-drenched hammock with my coffee and baileys and a book. Then we'd eat and venture out for a hike or two. At the end of the day, we'd come back, cook dinner together and enjoy a couple of cocktails on the back patio. Some nights we built a fire, some nights we enjoyed bubble baths under the stars and one night we did both! One night we were simply too tired to cook after our adventures, so we went to Prospect Pizza. The food was great and the staff was friendly. We visited the magnificent Crater Lake as well as several waterfalls and rivers in the area. We enjoyed the natural bridge of the Rogue River, Mill Creek and Barr Falls, Pearsony Falls, the Avenue of Boulders and so much more. On our way out of town, we had lunch at Beckie's Cafe. The food was SO GOOD that we were disappointed we only ate there once. Delicious burgers and their blackberry pie was amazing! This relaxing little get-away was exactly what I needed and we'd recommend this little slice of heaven to anyone. Thank you so much for making my birthday vacation memorable and relaxing!

Yes, we must admit we are addicted to the Red Blanket Cabin! Even when the weather dips into the low 30's & 40's during the day, the cabin is warm and comfortable. The full kitchen allows you to cook the basics or goodies like banana nut bread. BBQ a tri-tip and Life is Good! Still discovering new waterfalls and gorges along both the Rogue and the North Umpqua River. Had a fantastic time and Steve and Janna are wonderful hosts - very accommodating. Loved Steve's campfire. Didn't want to step outside into the freezing night's chill but the campfire was the reward for our courage! Any season is a great time to visit. The trails along the Rogue have almost no elevation gain and lots of tracks were visible in the light snow pack such as fox, deer and turkey. Easy access with 4 wheel drive. We are looking forward to returning for more adventures hiking and exploring this area.

The pictures do not do it justice. This unique artistic home is a piece of art lovingly crafted. Aside from all you need to live, it has an attitude of comfort that is hard to express. This is truly the most beautiful home we have experienced in our 30 years of traveling. It is a great base for Crater Lake, much better than the Crater Lake lodge. A meal at the Prospect Historical Hotel is quite nice too. It is a base for exploring southern hikes and cities and caves. It is a place for privacy and solitude, to read and relax. The outdoor claw foot bath tubs are another once in a lifetime not to be missed nighttime experience of star gazing while sipping wine inside your coccoon of warm suds surrounded by soft natural sounds that are muffled out by walls and tvs. Never watched the tv. Wish we had stayed 4 days minimum, preferably 6. This home is a destination.

                          Owner info

About the owner: The owners, Steve and Janna, have lived and worked in Southern Oregon all their lives. They have a combined 50 years of work experience with the U.S. Forest Service and can be a useful source of information about local sights, native plants and the wild animals in the area…as well as local history.

                          Why the Owner Chose Prospect:
We actually built the cabin ourselves with the help of family and friends. We wanted to showcase our love of working with wood and this seemed the perfect place to do that.
