Yes, we must admit we are addicted to the Red Blanket Cabin! Even when the weather dips into the low 30's & 40's during the day, the cabin is warm and comfortable. The full kitchen allows you to cook the basics or goodies like banana nut bread. BBQ a tri-tip and Life is Good! Still discovering new waterfalls and gorges along both the Rogue and the North Umpqua River. Had a fantastic time and Steve and Janna are wonderful hosts - very accommodating. Loved Steve's campfire. Didn't want to step outside into the freezing night's chill but the campfire was the reward for our courage! Any season is a great time to visit. The trails along the Rogue have almost no elevation gain and lots of tracks were visible in the light snow pack such as fox, deer and turkey. Easy access with 4 wheel drive. We are looking forward to returning for more adventures hiking and exploring this area.

The pictures do not do it justice. This unique artistic home is a piece of art lovingly crafted. Aside from all you need to live, it has an attitude of comfort that is hard to express. This is truly the most beautiful home we have experienced in our 30 years of traveling. It is a great base for Crater Lake, much better than the Crater Lake lodge. A meal at the Prospect Historical Hotel is quite nice too. It is a base for exploring southern hikes and cities and caves. It is a place for privacy and solitude, to read and relax. The outdoor claw foot bath tubs are another once in a lifetime not to be missed nighttime experience of star gazing while sipping wine inside your coccoon of warm suds surrounded by soft natural sounds that are muffled out by walls and tvs. Never watched the tv. Wish we had stayed 4 days minimum, preferably 6. This home is a destination.

What a charming cabin. We wish we could give it more stars. Steve and Janna built a beautifully welcoming cabin in one of the prettiest spots in the world. Red Blanket Cabin is a work of art, really. The wood they salvaged and brought back to life in this home glows gold in the Southern Oregon sunshine. Every place you look, there is a bit of their fine craftsmanship to admire. It is a very welcoming cabin, too. That is, no doubt, due to the fact that Steve and Janna thought of everything. We found art supplies, fuzzy slippers, books about local points of interest, hidden tubs under the stars, and lots of other pleasant surprises that show the owner’s thoughtfulness. We also discovered a set of mountain bikes that we used to visit the Prospect-area waterfalls and trails, which are amazingly numerous and world class spots of their own. The warmth and hospitality of this special couple is a delight from start to finish. It is a pleasure to highly recommend Red Blanket Cabin.

Our family had a wonderful time at the Red Blanket cabin. The house is comfortable, clean with beautiful woodwork. We spent the days hiking and exploring Crater Lake, Ashland and other surrounding areas and loved coming back to the cabin at the end of the day. The ladder golf yard game in the shed was a favorite to play after dinner. But the highlight was soaking side by side in the double clawfoot tubs in the back yard surrounded by quiet and a dark sky filled with stars. Steve and Janna are great hosts leaving us notes about the red moon rising and other local activities. We hope to make it back to Southern Oregon to visit again and defnitely back to the Red Blanket Cabin!

This is a wonderful place to stay. We were there for three nights during our July 2011 vacation, and we agreed that we could have stayed much longer. The cabin is beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable. Steve and Jana are very friendly and accommodating in every way. Want to get away from it all for a while in complete comfort? Visit the Red Blanket Cabin!

We stayed 3 nights at the Red Blanket Cabin. The pictures posted do not do it justice. Its beautiful, quiet, peaceful, in a great area, horses, fields, country, close to Crater Lake and other beautiful places. We ate at the Prospect Hotel but were glad we had a place to go back to with our own living room and beautiful backyard and porch. Steve and Janna were incredible. My old Ford Taurus had "issues" and Steve went on-line for us, and found the phone number and map for Crater Lake Ford for us. Janna even offered to drive us into Medford if needed. The cabin itself has amazing touches/woodwork and is absolutely clean and modern. I truly appreciated all the help and support with our car problems and Steve and Janna's helpfulness. They both know the area well and are great resources for the whole area.

This special place and special hosts can't be beat! There is so much to do in the area it makes a great home base for adventures. Mother Nature sent 2 inches of fresh powder to decorate the scenery which made it a photographer's dream come true. A short drive toward Crater Lake led us to more snow and our first hike on snow shoes provided by the hosts. Another hike is just out the back door which led us to siting a bald eagle. Many tracks of wildlife were seen such as deer, raccoon, turkeys, fox, as well as horses & cows. We attended the Prospect Community Christmas Craft Fair and enjoyed the people & original artwork. It is a magical setting that also offers a cozy cabin for curling up with a good book or watching a movie. We'll return again & again and highly recommend it. We only fear it will become too popular!

This little cabin rates 10 stars! Beyond our imagination...the attention to details and quality, cleanliness, and artistic design were outstanding. No romantic getaway will ever be considered complete without a bubble bath under the stars in twin claw-footed bathtubs - Oh Wow! How Cool! Even on our drive home, we are anxiously choosing our next date with the little cabin.

From the moment you step into the cabin till you leave, the custom wood work, the craftsmanship evident in every major & minor detail will stay with you for a long time. Complementing this beautiful cabin is a lovely backyard buzzing with humming birds (took lots of pictures), well laid out claw footed bath tubs out in the open for you to immerse in & a functional gas grill. Nothing more one could ask for far away from home!. Location of the cabin is perfect for making multiple trips to Crater Lake NP. Drive to NP is beautiful and relaxing with very light traffic. On personal note Steve and Jana provided stuff for our kids that made our life easier; which they didn't have to but they went an extra step. I found them to be enthusiastic and ready to help. They have listed things to do around Prospect and adjoining areas in a neat folder so no problems if you land up there without having done any research of your own.
Owner response:We offer the cabin to families with children on a limited basis and we have to say that you and your family were exemplary in caring for the cabin and the children were delightful. Thank you for the kind comments. It makes our job so much easier when we know that people truely like what they find at Red Blanket Cabin.

Superbly crafted, maintained & private cabin! With it's own wildlife, which included every amenity you could possibly want/need inside the building and on the cabin property. Our hosts were very friendly, accommodating and informed about the area. To date this is the best cabin we have ever stayed in! The surrounding area is amazingly beautiful and serene. We truly had an awesome time and would definetly recommend the Red Blanket Cabin to family and friends! You won't be disappointed! The "special Surprise" was thouroughly enjoyed by us both!! The pictures of this property couldn't possibly show all of the hidden treasures to be found upon arrival at the cabin. Steve and Janna thought of everything to make the visit to the area very memorable. Their hospitality was warm and welcoming. The cabin was clean and comfortable and equipped with every amenity. We really appreciated the air conditioning after a day at Crater Lake in the 90 degree plus heat! The tips for dining and sightseeing in the area were very helpful. The cabin was very relaxing with lots of places to sit back and enjoy nature at it's finest. We have recommended this as the perfect spot to stay while visiting Crater Lake to all of our friends and family.

We stayed at the Red Blanket cabin for four nights in July. It is by far, one of the most impressive rentals we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The cabin is stunning and completely spotless- I kept remarking about how clean everything was. The owners took the time to make sure you will have everything you could possibly need for your stay. I had a bag full of the odds and ends I usually bring when we stay at a rental, and I did not have to even open it, because the owners really thought of everything. The property is beautiful, and the cabin provides so many different things to do. Steve and Janna have put together books of local activities for their guests, and we took their advice on what to visit and we so happy that we did- Mill Creek Falls was amazing! The cabin, the amenities, the location, and the wonderful owners make this a great place, not to mention what a great deal it is! I cannot recommend this place enough!

We extended our stay at the Red Blanket Cabin by one night as we didn't want to leave! Our itinerary and booked flight home prevented us from staying longer. NEXT time, we'll know better when we book a return! The owners of this custom made cabin know the meaning of "value-added." We were delighted with all the extras: a bottle of wine to welcome us, bikes/helmets to get around on, games, puzzles, DVDs, tourist info. on Crater Lake and local "must see" sites, a unique setting for star gazing, etc. Their attention to detail was incredible -- it's as if they anticipated our every need/want! This property was very clean and well-maintained, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family (in fact I already have). Our hosts were very knowledgable about the area having grown up nearby and they were the "real deal" in terms of thoughtfulness and hospitality. I will be making a return trip to the Red Blanket Cabin.

My teen daughters and I stayed at Red Blanket cabin for two nights in April---what a special place! There is nothing that the owners have not thought of: binoculars, mittens, bikes, bird feeders, nature books---the list goes on and on! They even laid the logs for an outdoor bonfire---all we had to do is light the logs. This is a perfect place for nature lovers. Our only regret is that we didn't book it for a longer stay. At least that gives us something to look forward to on our next trip to Oregon!

My husband-to-be and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Red Blanket Cabin. It was one of the best New Year's we have had. The cabin was very clean, neat, and BEAUTIFUL! It was also very private with a huge yard and many trees around. Steve and Janna had thought of everything for us...from the greeting card and bottle of champagne to the new high-tech VERY comfortable water bed to the snowshoes for hiking up in the snow. As this was our first time in Oregon, we did not know what to expect. Steve and Janna told us of the places we could visit. Crater Lake (about 30-40 miles away) was covered by so much snow...it was amazing. Mill Creek Falls and Roque River Gorge were also very nice to see. We had so much fun!!! We are definitely planning to go there again in the Spring.
Owner response:We are so glad you enjoyed the cabin and we enjoyed meeting you. The bed is very comfortable but just wanted to clarify that it is an air bed! Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you in the spring.

Hi Steve & Janna – Rodney & I had a great visit in your cabin. We have a goal to step foot into all 50 states before Rodney turns 50 in 2015. “Fifty by fifty” is our slogan! We have now been to over 30 and your cabin by far has been the most creative, thoughtful and well stocked place we have stayed. Congrats on a job well done!Back home in Crawfordsville, Indiana, time is the biggest thing Rodney & I have to deal with. I am a dental hygienist and have to deal with time issues and scheduling all day. Rodney is a bindery machine operator in a printer and rotates shifts every 4 weeks so planning in advance ALWAYS results in timing issues. Once we arrived here, we didn’t worry or think about TIME!! We were able to relax and only focus on enjoying ourselves and seeing the sites. Thank you for providing and keeping this place a peaceful retreat. While in Prospect we enjoyed seeing Crater Lake, not only hiking but the boat excursion across the lake. We really enjoyed your local sites of Avenue of Giants, Mill Creek and Pearsony Falls. What a great little adventure so close to the cabin! We are so glad to have found you on VRBO and will recommend your cabin to anyone wishing to travel to Oregon.Good luck with your other projects and try to enjoy your “retirement” Cairns are landmarks for trails to help find your way. If we come to this area again, we will definitely be looking for yours!Rodney & Amy Lynn Byrd

I can only agree with all the comments left before. The Red Blanket Cabin is truly heavenly. We have stayed in several different cabins in the past 4 years and those did not even come close to Steve and Janna's place. The beauty and attention to details is awesome! Awesome is not a word I toss about often but it fits in this case. You will not be disappointed. We only stayed 2 nights but we left more relaxed than any part of our 2 weeks in Oregon. The pizza place is great, Becky's was great, Crater Lake is amazing and Steve and Janna were terrific. Their life story should be in a book. They have notched out a little paradise for themselves and their guests. Don't hesitate to book a visit but make it for more than 2 nights. You want to just sit and soak up the surroundings. And be sure to do that in the bath tubs.

We stayed two nights at this darling cabin in July. First I want to say the photos don't do justice to the details involved in making the cabin. The woodwork is amazing!! Also, we've stayed in lots of cabins but never one stocked like this one. I think they thought of everything you might could need!! Love the location out in the country & it yard is fixed up so great. Was enjoyable to sit outside early in the morning & read while the hummingbirds chased each other away from the feeders & flew right over your head. And I've never seen so many finches at a feeder! Was relaxing to eat lunch outside on the patio & Really neat to bathe under the stars in the tubs for two area. Must be a million stars in that sky!! We ate at Prospect Pizza & it was good..plus it is close by & don't have to drive very far. Beckys had delicious Chicken fried steak & pies!! It was really, really good!! We spent a complete day at Crater Lake and were blessed with a clear day there. Is AWESOME!! The boat ride on the lake is a must do & totally worth the walk back up the trail. Do bring instect spray though as you really need it. Anybody looking for a perfect spot to stay close to Crater Lake this is it. Your hosts are friendly & helpful & their cabin is awesome. We ate at the places we did thanks to their suggestions & they were right on target! A BIG THANK YOU for a great stay at your cabin!

We booked a 3 night stay in late June based on this cabin's proximity to Crater Lake and the Rogue River. However, upon seeing the property and experiencing Steve's and Janna's hospitality, we wished we could have stayed longer to just relax at this lovely cabin. Steve and Janna are welcoming and considerate hosts, and even offered (and provided) a ride to a trailhead so we could leave a car at the end of the hike. We enjoyed visiting with them and they were wonderfully proactive in providing information about area activities. The cabin and property amenities are exceptional, including such extras as gloves for cold weather (not a problem in June!), croquet, horseshoes, hammock, and an outdoor surprise that involves gazing at the stars. There were so many beautiful outdoor seating areas (felt like our own personal park) that we cut some of our plans and instead spent most of one day reading on the grounds. The cabin itself was perfect, and in colder weather I can picture a cozy indoor vacation here too. This cabin combines the best aspects of camping (the heady aroma and feel of the woods, privacy, and star-filled nights) with modern conveniences - my idea of the perfect vacation! The Red Blanket Cabin was our favorite destination during a 2 week tour of Oregon and Washington. Thanks, Steve and Janna!

We arrived at Red Blanket cabin on a rainy evening in early May. The sky was grey and a damp chill was in the air but our welcome could not have been warmer. The cabin was inviting and the tranquil beauty of the place was inspiring. From that first moment, Steve and Janna made us feel perfectly at home. They have covered pretty much every angle in so far as what any guest might be looking for and it was the most wonderful place to spend a few days of our honeymoon. We loved watching the finches and hummingbirds at the feeders and the two large outdoor bath tubs out back were great to relax in after a day exploring the awesome country around Prospect. The maps in the cabin log book proved invaluable and we enjoyed a fun time in the snow up at Crater Lake, which is about a half-hour drive. All in all, we absolutely adored Red Blanket Cabin and are pretty much in awe of the loving detail Steve and Janna have put into the place. It is unique and beautiful; the craftsmanship is a delight and we can't wait to return. It's special. David and Juliana Morgan.

Thank you so much for the wonderful time we had in your amazing cabin in the weekend of August 21, 2008. We're still talking about the details of it and your handcraft. You truly have given it a lot of thought. The cabin was like a little adventure for us of which you dream like a kid, discovering every inch of it with big eyes. We had great barbecues, we sat outside till late playing games and watching the stars and the milky way which was so very bright in that clear sky. We enjoyed the peace and quietness. It has been an inspirational time. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to enjoy these moments with our beloved parents, who came over to visit us during our stay in the US for the period of two years. They absolutely want to come back again before we go back to The Netherlands! Kind regards, Rene & Tamara Portland, OR.

The detailed attention that the owners put into building the cabin is evident, and that level of attention allowed for our stay to be a lot of fun - cooking in their kitchen, watching movies etc. Perfect! It's been a few weeks since my visit to the cabin and I am still daydreaming about it. What a gem! I found the cabin on VRBO during a search for a place away from it all and did I ever find it. This cabin was a sanctuary that I didn't want to leave. In fact, the whole area around Prospect is heaven. We spent time in Grant's Pass on the Rogue, in Jacksonville and Ashland, and a day at Crater Lake. It was splendid. I do wish we'd just had a day to ourselves at the cabin and more time to visit with our dear hosts. If you appreciate nature, quiet, outdoor adventure, SUPERB craftsmanship, a home built by hands that value every element of the land, a evening of crickets and the smell of a far off chimney, a good night's rest that wakes to a pristine dew-misted yard filled with birds, then you've just found your paradise. I am counting the days until I can return! Thank you for restoring my soul Red Blanket Cabin!

Steve and Janna, Your cabin is the most unique dwelling I have ever experienced. Complex yet simplistic in it's design. Thus containing elements of both eastern and western art. Simplistic as a Japanese garden yet containing complexities worthy of the Cistine Chapel. It's not often one gets an opportunity to live in a work of art. To create such a dwelling is one thing; to make it so incredibly liveable is another. I am truely amazed. July, 2006

Dear Steve and Janna, We thoroughly enjoyed time spent in your beautiful cabin. Your hospitality, attention to details, artistic expression left a noticable mark on our souls. Not only is Red Blanket Cabin comfortable, inviting and tastefully done - it gives us an opportunity to meet people who love the place that they live at with all their hearts. Thank you so much. Dear Steve and Janna, Sadly we must take leave of your beautiful little cabin today and move on to the Lassen area for the last stop on our Fall hike. To say we are in awe of what you two have done here is a gross understatement. We have spent many years hiking parts of the US and Europe, and have stayed in many country homes and cabins along the way. Never have we stayed at a place where the owners have gone to such painstaking lengths to ensure that every amenity is provided. We have enjoyed our stay here immensely. The cabin is delightful. The craftsmanship is exquisite. Thank you very much for your suggestions regarding places to go around here. We explored a good portion of the Rogue River, all the way up to the headwaters at Boundary Springs. We watched the sunset from the top of Red Blanket Mountain, and explored some of the logging roads up there. Plenty of elk tracks and droppings, but we didn’t spot any elk. We climbed Mt. Garfield and the cone on Wizard Island, and visited some of the lesser known places in Crater Lake such as the Pinnacles. We wore ourselves out, and really enjoyed coming back to the cabin in the evening to grill steaks and eat in the cozy back yard. Our first night here happened to coincide with the new moon, and Don enjoyed soaking in the tub in the middle of the night, gazing at the Milky Way. It’s been a long time since he has seen so many stars. What a treat! Joan and Lynne enjoyed jogging along the dirt road out back. Bob and Lynne enjoyed playing a game in the back yard that somewhat resembles croquet. All of us enjoyed the hummingbirds and finches.
