This was our second visit to Bear Haven and we brought our parents with us. They were amazed at the beautiful view we had and the perfect cabin. They have stayed at many places but this one was their favorite. The owners are especially courteous and very helpful. This will continue to be our Smokey Mountain rental.

I have to admit I was alittle skeptical of my choice of Bear Haven since I normally only stay at places I've been before....but it was a wonderful choice..the view is better than any place I've stayed before...decorated beautifully..and that personal touch made it feel like home...I would recommend this to all ages...we had two teenagers and they loved it. We will stay here on all our future trips.

Bear Haven was just what my husband and I needed...A beautiful, peaceful, relaxing cabin just minutes away from Pigeon Forge. Peggy was so helpful with information about the area and things to do. My wife and son stayed for a week at this wonderful Haven. The view of the mountains from the large screened in deck will take your breath away. The cabin was wonderful. The parking area is flat with easy access to the door. The cabin is decorated very well. We felt very comfortable there for a week. Hardwood floors, nice furniture, great lighting, top notch appliances, new central air and furnace, great chairs on the deck, fabulous hot tub, . . . everything was great. The location was perfect. We were just a 10 minutes from the strip in Pigeon Forge, and yet when we were at the cabin, it seemed we were in the middle of the Smokies. We've been in all 50 states and several countries, and have never had a better view than from the deck of the cabin. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We spent much of our time sitting on the deck soaking up the view. The wifi works great, so we were able to do a little work while enjoying the view. We even Skyped into a meeting while sitting on the deck. I can't say enough good things about Bear Haven. Peggy was very quick to respond to emails or phone calls if you needed anything and quickly refunded our deposit when we got back home. I can guarantee that you will create a pleasant and lasting memory staying here.

We just returned from a wonderful time at Bear Haven. First off Peggy is VERY helpful. She took the time to send me links for some fantastic savings for our family to purchase tickets to local things we wanted to do. She is a wealth of information. Now on to the cabin. Drive up for the first time is breathtaking.....both in the fear of driving up the mountain and the amazing view. Drivers beware it is a ways up the mountain..on the positive side of that the view is unbelievable. The area has lots of trees and you feel like to are really in the mountains. The cabin itself is just beautiful. It is comfortable for all. We traveled in with 8 adults and 2 dogs and never felt cramped. The decor of Bear Haven just makes you feel cozy. Cabin was nice & clean when we arrived. Also, Peggy has it stocked with all the things you may have forgotten, especially in the kitchen. Full size washer & dryer a great plus. I would highly recommend this cabin & owner to everyone. The only thing I can say that we were disappointed in was having to leave :) We stayed 7 nights and it was positively NOT ENOUGH. If you can, stay a couple of weeks, there is just so much to do and not enough time to just sit on the back deck.

My family and I stayed at Bear Haven the last week of July. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. My favorite part was the back porch overlooking the beautiful mountains...the view was amazing and the perfect place to sit in a rocking chair and read a good book. Peggy was a very easy person to work with and provided all the information we needed to make this an easy vacation. We decided one week wasn't really enough time to do everything we wanted to do. It's a quick drive to the Parkway in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We ate breakfast several times at the Log Cabin Pancake House...the white chocolate pancakes were a big hit. The guys all went on an overnight hike/camping trip and had a great time. We definitely would like to rent this cabin again and will recommend it to anyone planning a vacation to the area.

We had such a wonderful time. The cabin is great. We had friends rent another cabin on the other side of the mountain but we all agreed this one was just a little better. The screened in porch allowed us to stay outside longer and the amount of space inside was awesome for us. The view outside was just fantastic. I could not stop taking pictures.

This was by far our best mountain vacation ever! Peggy was the best owner we have ever dealt with! She was so attentive to us, which helped make our vacation one we will never forget! She gave us tons of information on things to do and where to go for entertainment! The cabin is decorated to a "T" and was so cozy and comfortable in every way possible! My family recently visited Bear Haven for a weekend getaway. We arrived on a Friday and the house was smoking hot. Thermostat was set on 80* just like the instructions advised. We lowered the thermostat and left for a long while. Upon our return the house was still hot and the temp had dropped to 78*ish. THe house never got cool unless you were sleeping at night. We contacted Peggy(the owner) about the problem. She said she would have the maintenace people come out and look. They advised her and us that the AC unit was bad and not working correclty. They did place a window unit in the upstairs bedroom. Peggy stated to me on the phone that she would refund/reimburse part of our stay or find us another cabin to stay in. We did continue with our stay at the cabin. Upon our arrival home, Peggy offered us a 50.00 discount on another stay to be used within a year. She is not honoring her word. Stay at your own risk. The cabin is nice but the owner is untrustworthy.

Owner response:I am sorry that the hvac system couldn't be replaced during your stay. A major repair during a guest stay is always an owner's worst nightmare. The hvac system was working, but it was being pushed to its limits due to the extreme heat during the weekend that you visited. However, after offering to move you to another cabin, which you declined, and having a window unit air conditioner added, I spoke with your wife on the phone and she said the cabin was comfortable. Her email after returning home stated, “Hi Peggy. Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time last weekend. We all really enjoyed the cabin and can't wait to go back. The way that you have everything set up is awesome, there is not one thing that we needed, that wasn't there. Our expectations were definitely exceeded. I saw in the book that if there were any critters to let you know so that you can tell your exterminator... we did see a couple of spiders and there was one roach, but it was already dead. Thanks! Sara”, so I felt confident that I was doing the right thing and fostering good will by offering you the $50 credit on a future stay. I wasn't aware you were expecting a refund until you emailed me back after I offered the $50 credit. I think you can tell from our other reviews that guest satisfaction is very important to us, so I'm very sorry that you weren't satisfied. I hate that your dissatisfaction with my offer caused you to leave this review. (To others reading this review: Please note that the entire hvac unit was replaced on 6-29-11).

We have spent the Christmas Holiday at Bear Haven for 3 of the last 4 years. We always have a wonderful experience. The view is amazing. What a great place, convenient to the Parkway, National Park and Dollywood. Peggy gave really good directions and the road up to the house was not bad at all. (We have been some places where I felt that I was going to fall off of the mountain and had to hang on for dear life.) The view from the deck is fabulous, you are overlooking one house, but that was not a concern for us. The interior was exceptionally clean and decorated for fall and even had a rotating autumn tree. The kitchen was outfitted with everything that was needed. I did bring a crock pot,but there wasn't really a need as Peggy thought of that to! The screened porch was an added plus and a comfort for us knowing that our Yorkie Abby had no way of getting off the deck without us. Peggy was great to work with, giving us directions to places and different ways to avoid the Parkway. Bear Haven suited us to a "t", easy access, convenient location, fantastic view, beautifully decorated and pet friendly. Bear Haven will definitely be seeing us again!

October in the Mountains!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bear Haven! It was equipped with everything we needed and was beautifully decorated for the fall season. There's nothing like sitting on your screened in balcony and watching the sun rise over the mountains. It was breathtaking! Excellent Experience at Bear Haven!

I was planning on meeting my 70 year old parents out in Pigeon Forge for a quick trip to Dollywood -- and they were originally going to stay at an inexpensive hotel. I decided to surprise them and bring my sister along, and also book a cabin instead of a hotel. I researched on VRBO and Trip Advisor, places that were rated well, and were close to Dollywood, and also not overly expensive. Our experience at Bear Haven was excellent. Everything was very well kept for, and apparently the family/living area had a recent addition. The kitchen wasn't exactly up-to-date but that was over-shadowed by everything else - including the unbeatable view and the huge screened in porch, in addition to the hot tub. Everything else was clean and kept. The owner Peggy was also very professional and easy to deal with. She helped answer many of my questions about location, travel to the airport, renting cars and driving, etc - prior to my arrival. If I get back to Pigeon Forge - this is the place I will book (if it's available!).

Relaxing Stay with a Great View

My wife and 3 children (ages 12, 8, and 5) all agreed that this cabin/house was great. I was careful to read through many reviews of various cabins before selecting this one and am happy to report it met our expectations. In my opinion, if you are going to go to stay in a cabin on a mountain, make it worth your while by getting one with a nice big screened in porch to keep the bugs out and an excellent unobstructed view of the mountains. Bear Haven perfectly fit this bill and then some. On that topic though, I think it is good to know you do have 2 neighbors ... so it's not like you are absolutely the only one within view. There's one house nearby up the mountain that you never notice except for when you drive up the driveway to Bear Haven. The other house can be viewed down a little ways and to the right from the screened in porch ... it also has some telephone poles and lines going to it that stick up some if you look that direction. No big deal though because as you can see from the pictures, you get a great view just looking straight out and it's not like that house is sticking up in front of you because it is down the mountain and off to the side corner anyhow. Bear Haven has a nice living room and kitchen area as you can see in the pictures. The bedrooms aren't large, but were all adequate with comfy enough beds. The sink/counter areas in each bathroom are a bit small but worked out fine. However, the bathtub/shower on the lower level is a huge jacuzzi. Very nice indeed!!! So, we all ended up using it most of the time instead of showing/bathing in the upstairs bath. By the way, the hot tub on the screened in porch was nice too. The living room was great and the couch was super comfy ... I actually wrote down the model info from its tag in case I would be able to buy one like it for home some day :-) The kitchen was well furnished (actually the whole house was) with all sorts of things you might need so you don't have to lug everything from home with you. Ask Peggy if you want to know if something in particular is already there (example: crock pot, blender, spaghetti strainer, etc) and she will not only tell you but likely even tell you exactly which drawer or cabinet it is located in. This isn't one of those cabins where the owner takes the hands off approach...she has gone out of her way to make sure you will feel comfy and taken care of while staying. We just may have to come back and do this again next year!

My husband and I were one of three couples who spent the weekend at Bear Haven during the car show. The cabin is perfect, the view magnificent, and the location great. By taking the back roads we avoided the traffic jams. We had a great time and plan to stay there again. While the men looked at cars, the ladies shopped. Five Oaks is a great place for "retail therapy."

I think this is the best cabin we have ever stayed at since it is so well equipped and is so well layed out. It worked out very well for my in-laws who are elderly. Best View East of the Mississippi

We stayed in BearHaven in August 2010 and the whole family had an amazing time. 180 degrees of breathtaking scenery is visible from the open familyroom and kitchen and the porch was much bigger than it looked in the pictures. A very quiet neighborhood, yet, the cabin is very, very close to all of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg . There was so much to do, yet coming home to BearHaven every day was a real treat. Best VRBO experience ever!

I have rented many times on VRBO, but this was the best experience I've had so far. The cabin was absolutely wonderful. The seating, the layout and the attention Peggy has given to every detail far surpasses any of the properties we've stayed in before. The nicest touch of all is the screened- in porch. You could sit and enjoy the night sky without worrying about bugs or critters. The location of the cabin was excellent. Secluded, but not so far away from everything that you spend all your time driving just to get into town. Peggy was by far, the best owner I have ever dealt with when renting from VRBO. We are so looking forward to our next visit!

Bear Haven is a great property and well maintained by it's gracious owners. The kitchen is equipped with pretty much anything you could need. Our favorite part of our home away from home was the fantastic, screened in porch. The view is incredible and afforded many great photos. Being able to bring our dogs was a huge plus for us. A first for the Austin Family

Mostly on a whim, I started to look for a cabin to rent in the Smokey Mountains, a central location for our immediate family. Bear Haven was the first cabin we found that met our requirements (including WiFi and 3 bedrooms!) AND it was available on the dates that our family had chosen for this gathering of children and grandchildren! "Someone" was truly watching over us as we made this decision for Bear Haven was perfect, and Peggy was very helpful and patient as she answered all my questions/concerns...especially when she told me that there were coffee filters for the coffeemaker! I knew then that she had thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable! Off and on, we had five grandchildren, their parents, a Nene (me) and a small dog at the cabin, and we never felt "overpopulated!" The living space is amazing; the view is spectacular; and the peace and quiet (at naptime, of course) was refreshing. We always left the cabin reluctantly and we visited Gaitlinburg (Aquarium is great!) and Dollywood. It actually took us longer to walk from our cars in Dollywood's parking lot to the gates than it did to get from the cabin to Dollywood! Then the grandchildren and their parents (and the small dog ;-) left Nene at the cabin to get some of her work/writing done. There are no words to describe how it felt to get up in the morning and sit on the deck with my coffee and computer! And the evening sky was gorgeous. The only wildlife I saw/heard was a big, box turtle that was rooting around under the deck one evening! We will definitely return to Bear Haven!

I have rented from VRBO for years but this was the best experience ever. In fact I have rented another place since on the beach and there was no comparison. It is the best equipped place I have ever stayed. My daughter always takes a griddle along and what do you know, there was one there. Everything you needed and more was there. The view was gorgeous and my grandsons were snowboarding that weekend so it was great to be able to see the slopes from where we were. They couldn't believe that we could see that from afar. Dealing with the owners was superb. My daughter left some items and they were sent immediately. We plan on coming back. Just worried that if we tell too many it won't ever be available!!

I loved the cabin and especially the beautiful view of the mountains! The cabin was decorated so cute, I didn't want to leave! I am grateful we got to bring our dog with us, that made it more enjoyable for all! Thanks for all of your hospitality, Peggy! It's a great getaway!

We had a wonderful vacation at your home. The view was awesome!! We've been to Tennessee a lot of times but we came out this weekend to see all the Winterfest lights as my daughter hasn't ever seen them. We went to the aquarium in Gatlinburg which we really enjoyed. We also went to all the winerys in Pigeon Forge and received free wine glasses which were very nice.

A very nice, clean, well maintained, thoughtfully decorated property. The two-lane road to rhe chalet is steep and winding, but the view after you get there is great. You can even see Ober Gatlinburg from the deck.

MY FAMILY AND I HAD A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY AT BEAR HAVEN. MY 3 GRANDCHILDREN LOVED ALL THE GAMES TO PLAY WITH! THEY ALSO LOVED GOING DOWNTOWN PIGEON FORGE TO RIDE THE RIDES! AS FOR MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF, SITTING ON THE SCREENED PORCH "SWINGING AND ROCKING", ENJOYING THAT BEAUTIFUL VIEW WAS SO WONDERFUL AND PEACEFUL. THE HOUSE WAS DECORATED SO NICE FOR THE FALL, AND EVERYONE HAD A FIT OVER THE "FALL TREE". WE COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR BETTER ACCOMMODATIONS AND SO CLEAN! WE HOPE TO COME AGAIN REAL SOON!

This was the first time we stayed at Bear Haven. The cabin was decorated very nicely for the fall and was everything we expected and than some. It was very well stocked with anything that we might need, including a baby pack and play and stroller,spices and even dog treats. My family really enjoyed ourselves and we will stay at Bear Haven again when we want to go to the mountains.

We loved your cabin. Best view of any cabin we've rented. Peggy, you do a great job in making your guest feel at home. You have not overlooked one detail. We would definately return when visiting Pigeon Forge again and would recommend Bear Haven to others. Sitting on the porch while it rained was so relaxing that we didn't even mind the wet weather.

This is our 3rd time in the cabin it is the best, loved the new furniture, very comfy makes room look bigger. Last year we had to stay at a bigger cabin, although it was nice it didn't compare to this one. It is much more peaceful and homey here.

We stayed at Bear Haven from August 9-16, 2009. We’ve stayed at cabins in Gatlinburg with great views over the years, but Bear Haven’s views are amazing. I’m always concerned with staying at pet friendly places because of odors, so I was delighted that Bear Haven was fresh and clean. Peggy was prompt and very helpful with all of the necessary details. We have already recommended Bear Haven to several of our friends and we plan on returning in the future.

It was such a blessing to open the door to Bear Haven the day we arrived and find that it was as charming and inviting, clean and cozy as was represented on the web site. Everyone says this, but we loved the themed rooms and the beautiful way the cabin is decorated with so many special details from the lights and sunflowers on the porch to the hidden pictures in the bathrooms!..... Our family rented the house in mid June. The house is extremely well equipped. The kids enjoyed the hot tub and the screened in porch was used in the evenings.The view from the porch is magnificent. Would highly recommend this rental to everyone.

We rented Bear Haven for a family vacation in late June 2009. We had a very good week. The weather was hot so we were glad of the air conditioning. The screened porch and hot tub were favorite features, and the view from the porch IS amazing. The cabin is clean and well-equipped. We used the swimming pool a couple of times, and it was very good too. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

Absolutely gorgeous place! This cabin has everything you could think of that you would need and more. Also, it's not far away from Pigeon Forge which is very nice, tho it is quiet and private.
