La Tringale was built in 1820 and was a working farm for many years. Until recently it had been the home of three generations of the same family, some of whom still live locally.
Ron and Bunty arrived from Norwich, England in August 2002 and immediately commenced work on renovating the main farmhouse and the attached cottage. They are delighted to offer the 3 bedroom Stone Cottage, the 2 bedroom Gite and 3 rooms for B&B (2 doubles and 1 twin room, in the main farmhouse); all offering Oak beams and other character features throughout. Holiday-exchange considered.
The site, which offers peace, tranquility and security, includes patios with furniture, a children’s play area, guests’ barbeque/picnic areas and a large grassed-area to the rear, which is ideal for ball-games or relaxation, and a large landscaped-pond with numerous goldfish, frogs, newts and moorhens. There is ample parking space and a laundry room /drying facilities.
La Cottage = £375 - £625 per week. Euphony Gite = £275 - £475 per week. B&B = £37.50 per night per couple; single-occupant £27.50.
We are ideally situated for access to the Normandy beaches (20-30 minutes), World War II museums, monuments and military cemeteries, theme parks, aqua park, zoos, forest walks and picnics, Balleroy Chateau and museum to hot-air ballooning, fishing lakes and rivers, golf-courses, 11th Century Abbey and loads more.
La Tringale is set in two and a half acres, is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and offers easy access to and from the major ferry ports of Cherbourg and Caen (approximately 50 minutes) and Carpiquet (Caen) airport as well as a direct train link to Paris (approximately two an a half hours).
The beautifully restored cottage, with Oak beams throughout, has an open-plan ground floor with well-equipped kitchen, separate dining area and good sized lounge with British Satellite TV, DVD /video and radio/Hi-Fi. The upper floor has three bedrooms, sleeping eight people (one of which can sleep a family of four and has an en-suite) and a full-bathroom. There is also a sofa-bed in the lounge making it possible to sleep an extra two people if required. To the front of the cottage there is a double patio area with full furniture. A welcome-pack of tea, coffee, sugar and milk are provided as is all bed-linen and towels. Electric central-heating throughout.
Euphony Gite is a 2 bedroom barn-conversion with Oak beams throughout and a cider-barrel hot-water cupboard. Spacious, light and very well decorated. There are 2 bedrooms; a double and a twin (which has 3 single-beds), and there is a gallery-landing with chairs and coffee-table. Fully-fitted kitchen with cooker/oven, microwave,Tea & Coffee-making facilities, all crockery and cutlery. The open-plan lounge-diner gives space and ease of use. In addiiton we have 3 bedrooms, on the 2nd floor of the main farmhouse, for B&B use. There are 2 double and 1 twin rooms and a shared shower/toilet room. Tea and coffee-making facilities in each room. Optional evening meals can be provided in the farmhouse at extra cost.
Nearby, the picturesque town of Bayeux was one of the first to be liberated from enemy occupation on 7th June 1944 and is the home of the famous 11th century Tapestry depicting William the Conqueror’s invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings in 1066; it is only 25 minutes drive.
St. Lo, situated approximately 18 kilometres south-west of La Tringale, is the nearest main town with good shopping, leisure facilities and restaurants and a Saturday morning market. For Horse lovers it is also the most important of the 23 national studs and specializes in breeds such as Norman cobs, Trotters and French saddle horses; stables and courtyards open to visitors June to September
The village of St Clair sur Elle is close by and offers bar/restaurant (pizza night on Tuesdays!), butcher, supermarket, baker, garage, post office, doctor’s surgery, chemist, bank, two hairdressers and a small market on Tuesdays.
Special Christmas Package: A four-night special package for up to eight people, accommodated in La Cottage, that includes a full traditional Christmas Day dinner and Boxing Day (26th) Dinner, served in the main farmhouse. Details can be sought through the owners.
On-site amenities: Owners live on-site and are available to welcome you, and for help and support. Ample parking, away from children at play; full patio areas with furniture; 2 barbecues with picnic tables are near the landscaped pond which hosts fish, frogs, moorhens and newts and a children's play area with swings, see-saw, slide, rope-ladder and hanging-tyres; large area of lawn for ball games or recreation (badminton net and equipment, football net and balls also available); bikes available for loan as are a selection of Videos and DVD's.
In addition a laundry-room with washing-machine, iron and ironing-board and drying facilities are available for guests. The owner's PC/Internet/Email and Telephone facilities are also available if required.
