This property is in a lovely quiet location, but only a couple of miles or so from Edgartown's shops and restaurants. It was spotless when we visited and beautifully maintained. A fantastic kitchen, cosy and comfortable livingroom and a wonderful dining area, the house is filled with light. The owners Paul and Karen were super helpful and informative but not at all intrusive. They made sure we had all the information we needed before our visit and then called shortly after we arrived to answer any last minute questions we had about the property and the island. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends or family. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Everything about our stay was absolutely fantastic. We've been coming to MV for years and this was by far the best home we've stayed in. The property was stunning, the home was pristine, comfortable, tasteful and very functional. We took full advantage of the well equipped kitchen, pool, hot-tub, kayaks, outdoor BBQ, etc... Paul and Karen were very accomodating and helpful, sincerely interested in our enjoyment. I highly recommend this property for a great MV experience.

Owner response:Thanks Terry, So glad you and your family had a good week. Keep us in mind for even quick get a way weekends over the winter. The Island is pretty special in the off season. Best to all Karen and Paul

The guest house is perfect! My husband and I came for a long weekend with our respective parents, and while it was a little cozy for 6 adults, it was really comfortable. The house is really well furnished and equipped, it seems as though Karen and Paul have thought of everything. They chose to furnish the house in a way that one might furnish their own house, not a rental. The kitchen is terrific- we love to cook and we had everything we might have needed. The house was clean and clearly well maintained. We loved everything about it- especially the hot tub!

Owner response:It is our hope that we have created the perfect spot and well equipped home for your vacation. Thanks for you kind words. We enjoyed having you. Please keep us in mind for another time and don't forget the main house is larger and may work better for three couples.

Hate to have to leave this little piece of heaven. Our vacation is always something we look forward too but now that we have found Oyster Watcha Meadow I have to say it was the best vacation we have ever had. You have thought of everything. We love to cook and it is obvious that you do too! The kitchen is fantastic and so well equipped. The pool and gardens were amazing. Loved the location and how beautiful the whole meadow is. Great Stay...thanks

Boo Hoo! Our third but no less idyllic vacation at 34 Jennie lane has come to an end. Paul, when we saw you the other morning and you said "Welcome Home!", that is truly how we feel when we're here. The anticipation of spending a week here is what keeps us sane as summer and job stress begin to wear on us. Thank you as always for allowing us to call your home "our home". We had a wonderful time. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful Autumn and we will see you next year.

If anyone wants a really nice rental this house is great. Also liked the location. Close to everything but in an area that is really beautiful and private. Never stayed in such a nice house! My wife loved it. My kids loved the pool and I liked the Island Golf Courses. Really great vacation... Thanks Paul...you did a great job on this property.

What a way to relax! We could get used to this....Thank you for the perfect getaway. Lovely weather we had and beautiful accommodations your provide. All of your suggestions in your book: Long Point Beach, shopping, kayak drop in spots were fabulous. The lobsters were a huge hit. Your home provides everything one needs and more. The tranquility of the birds singing and the breeze blowing in the windows made is so restful. Your flowers are perfect too. We will suggest your amazing home to others. Thanks again.

We had a fabulous vacation from beginning to end. Thank you for all that you do to make it perfect. Some of our highlights were..... delicious lobster dinner cooked in your fantastic lobster cooker, shooting stars from the hot tub, cooking in your amazing kitchen with fresh basil and corn on the cob from your garden. Loved the fresh pesto you dropped off. Long Point Beach , 13 of our 14 days! Too many good things to cover. We love your home....it really is perfect. Always so sad to leave. (3 years coming to your beautiful home)

BEST compound on MV!!! Where to begin...everything was perfect during our mini-family reunion on the lovely island of Martha's Vineyard. We usually vacation on Nantucket however we were getting tired of the loung haul and decided to give MV a try. My sister's and I wanted to find a home that would accomodate the 3 of us and all of our kids, one that was centrally located (all attractions were a quick 15 minute drive), had a saline pool and much privacy - Karen and Paul's fit the bill and went way beyond our highest expectations. The home was beautifully decorated - we joked that we were living within the pages of a Pottery Barn magazine! Both houses were appointed with luxury linens, both had fully stocked gourmet kitchens, two hot tubs!, there were kayaks, board & yard games, pool toys...they have thought of EVERYTHING. Dean and I are excited to make this our new family vacation spot. Karen, Paul and Bequia...thank you so much for an amazing time at your home! We just booked our return for 2012!

Owner response:Thank you for your kind review. We loved having you and your family and want you to know that you are always welcome back anytime. Family time is a precious thing and to see you all enjoy the Island and the property is the very reason we built the compound.... a place for families to gather and celebrate each other! So happy to know that you will be back in 2012

What a wonderful time we had (all 11 of us) The accommodations were fabulous! Such an easy, family-friendly place. It was so nice to be secluded from the masses on your amazing compound. Little had changed since some of us were on the island 30 years ago, which proves YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN! A zillion thanks for your hospitality.

We have vacationed in many rental homes and we have to tell you that this is by far the most perfect rental we have ever stayed in. You have gone above and beyond to make your home, clean, comfortable and up to date with every detail being just perfect. We loved the comfort you created inside and outside of your home. Your gardens are amazing! The children loved the heated pool and playing in the meadow. We had never used a saltwater/mineral pool before and will never swim in chlorine again! What a great location...so central to everything and as you said... but away from the crowds. We now understand why you said it took you years to find this perfect location! It really is perfect. Bill loves to cook and could not believe your kitchen. He thought he had all the "kitchen toys" but after cooking in your kitchen went home with a list of things he just had to have! Last but not least..you were both great! We learned so much about the out of the way places that we never would have found without your tips and all the veggies your would drop off from the garden were so delicious and such a wonderful surprise. You really made us feel like this was our home. Thank You Thank You Thank You. We booked 2011 before we left and hope to now make this our annual family retreat.

We booked this home for a family reunion to celebrate Mothers 90th birthday. We looked for months to find the perfect spot where 4 generations could live in comfort and everyone have space. Being that this was a really special occasion we were very particular. Finding 34 Jennie Oyster Watcha Compound was pure genius! The beautiful gardens and lawn areas were enjoyed by all, The amazingly well equipped kitchens made cooking fun! The houses were immaculate and beautifully furnished with thought put into every little detail. My father loved the huge selection of books to choose from, My mother loved your amazing gardens....something we don't have in New York City! My wife loved the tranquility of sitting in the hot tub at night with a million stars overhead....again something we don't have in New York City. The kids loved the pool and flying kites in the huge meadow. What a wonderful spot for all of us. All that you have done to create this perfect vacation home made mothers birthday truly special and gave our family the opportunity to be together but not on top of each other! Everyone had a great time. You really have created something special. It was a vacation we will all remember.

Many thanks to Karen and Paul for sharing their beautiful home with us. My daughter and I spent our spring vacation at the Hannigan's, and I can't think of a more lovely, relaxing place to be. Cozy fireplaces, comfortable beds, pillow-covered window seats, spectacular views from every window, and an incredible sound system are just a few of the many details that make this island retreat a true treasure. Centrally located on a secluded 3 acre meadow, this beautiful cottage is close to bike trails, beaches and shopping. My daughter and I were able to venture out to explore a different area of the island every day during our stay, and still have plenty of time to enjoy relaxing at the cottage. Whether we were out in the beautiful yard having a pass, playing Scrabble on the sun porch, relaxing in the hot tub or curled up on one of the comfy sofas with a good book, we felt at home and relaxed the entire time. This was by far the nicest, most enjoyable vacation I have ever had. Kudos to the Hannigans!

We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful spot for our early-October family vacation! The house is so lovely-- in its decoration and layout. The windows everywhere let in the light during the day, while the well-thought-out lighting throughout helps illuminate the nights. The couches were cozy--perfect to read the Sunday Times, whether in the sunroom or in the livingroom by the fire. My husband, a chef, had only positive comments on the well-stocked kitchen. We had such a wonderful time and would love to come next year, and the next, and the next...

We found this rental just by luck from scrolling through cyberrentals and I cannot tell you what a wonderful choice it was to rent this particular property!! The house was incredibally beautiful and it was situated in an impeccable landscaped area with the meadow just beyond the gracefully curved stone walls. Even though the area is in a wooded interior of the island, the fantastic beach with its bobbing seals and white sands is only ten minutes away. Everything within the house is perfect in the details: from the built-in sound system throughout the house to the gourmet top of the line All-Clad pans and Henckels knives!! I was hoping for the occasional rainy day just to sit around the house and read a book from the well stocked bookshelves! I am looking forward to next year to rent this house! I now cannot even imagine renting another anywhere and all the others that I have rented in the past pale in comparison!! Thank you!

After researching countless homes on several islands, when we found the Hannigans' "3 acre retreat" our search was clearly over. It is ideally situated a short drive to town but settled into a paradise of privacy. The home was immaculate and tastefully decorated with a thoughtful and talented eye; not too sparse and not overdone. Everything is right where you would expect it. It was surprisingly easy to feel instantly at home in its sensible layout and unencumbered flow. The indoor-outdoor feel of the place was evident from each bright room. And the gardens and patios added immeasurably to the home's indoor rooms. Our twin daughters loved crawling around on the landscaped lawn, and we look forward to returning when they can run on it. We loved starting our mornings with coffee and warm muffins at the nearby farm store, and nothing beat closing our days with dinner on the stone patio amidst the wilderness, followed by a soak in the hot tub. Bliss. The several unspoken and gracious perks, such as the luxurious linens and bath robes, the convenient and easy-to-use clothesline, the ample storage, and the excellent quality kitchenware and furnishings impressed us all the more. Many places will boast having luxurious amenities, but the Hannigans have them without the boast. After staying here for one week, my husband said he preferred the spacious feel of the Hannigans' home to our own colonial house which is 3 times the size. We were initially hesitant about having the hosts in an adjacent house, but not only was their presence unimposing, it proved to be a delight when we did finally meet them. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and a wine-opener, as is a pleasant custom of many hosts, but the Hannigans' genuine hospitality was apparent from the start. They had a great perspective of "This is YOUR home this week". During a rare neighborhood black-out, we opened the door to find flashlights, extra batteries, candles, and matches on the doorstep. They were very accessible when you needed them, and otherwise we did not feel their presence or eyes. The home, like the hosts, is a delight. This was the kind of vacation retreat that makes you realize how important vacations are. The island itself contributed to much of this, but it would not have been nearly as terrific an experience in another home. Now when we think of vacationing elsewhere in the USA, we find ourselves wishing the Hannigans had a rental property there. Our only reservation about leav

We cannot say enough about this wonderful Island Get A Way. Brigh, sunny and tucked away from summer hubbub and the busy feeling the summer can bring to the Island this home is its own little piece of paradise on Marthas Vineyard. We loved the pool and the children loved feeding the ducks in the pond. Clean and comfortable, a great place to spend a vacation

It's hard to imagine a more beautiful setting for a holiday than Martha's Vineyard or a more perfect guest house from which to enjoy it than the one we stayed at. Owners Karen and John have created an ideal atmosphere of comfort and sophistication complete with all the amenities. We love to cook and enjoyed preparing the local seafood in the well-equipped kitchen, as well as the comfortable sofas for reading at night in front of the fire and the restful landscapewhere where we relaxed with our morning coffee before setting out for a day of exploring. Warm and friendly hosts who repect privacy and never make you feel like you might upset their beautiful home. Thank you Karen and John for some great memories.
