What a wonderful experience in your warm and inviting historic Inn. We really relaxed after dinner and watched Dances w/Wolves (which was in your library) – and enjoyed it tremendously especially since we had just left Spearfish Canyon where some of it had been filmed. We also enjoyed our upgrade – too bad we were only staying for one night – however, we made the best of your comfortable dwelling. I certainly will keep all your info for either future trips or as a reference for ones we know. Additionally, the award from the city placed on the courtyard wall for all the work done to this lovely historic building was quite impressive. It truly is evident that the renovation was a labor of love.

Flat Iron House

My family loved the Flat Iron house. The entire house has so many unique features and so well done that it felt like the whole house was a piece of artwork. Such a beautiful house! Perfect for a romantic get-away. Room with bunk beds connects to main bedroom by a beautiful stained glass door, so perfect if you are traveling with children that want to be close to parents. House was well stocked for all our needs and was clean and lovingly cared for. Location turned out to be perfect as we were there to visit Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Mammouth Site and Black Hills Horse Sanctuary. Was conveniently located in the middle of all those sites, so it was perfect. Will definitely stay there again if lucky enough to come back to the area.

We wanted a nice quiet place to stay during the bustling summer months in the Blackhills. Well, we surely got quiet. What a wonderful find for anyone who enjoys have a place of their own. The kitchen is well appointed and the outdoor grill is perfect. The only problem was that we went during the most extreme heat so we did not get a chance to take our evening walks and explore the neighborhood. What fun.....

Recommended for:Sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Beautiful Stay

Hot Springs was recently described as a "Distinctive Destination" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Flatiron makes that distinction all the more special. I have done some contract work for Wind Cave National Park, and this was my third trip to Hot Springs. Previously I stayed at one of the chain motels. This time I traveled with my 9 year-old son and we chose to stay at the Flatiron because it seemed attractive and the price was excellent. We were more than impressed. The room was very spacious and beautiful. The owners have restored and updated this rough stone building with great skill and artistry. The place would be perfect for a couples get-away (with on-site massage), but it is also great for families and kids. We stayed two nights, and made one of them a full-blown movie night --and watched a film on the giant screen t.v. from the Flatiron's library of a 100 or so video/dvds. Wonderful place. You cannot go wrong.

The Flat Iron Inn

My husband and I drove from Canada to California after we got married and had the opportunity to stay at the Flat Iron. Not only are Kara and Clay two of the coolest people we have ever met but the place was amazing! They have been restoring this historical building and it looks amazing! It has a friendly laid back vibe, Hot Springs is such a beautiful town and there is so much to do and see in South Dakota. We hope to make it back sooner rather than later and have some of that awesome coffee they roast themselves, have great conversation and get back to nature! I recommend if you go, ask to see Kara's art and even buy a piece, she is a very talented painter! I'm am sorry it has taken so long to write this. It seems that when things get busy, they go crazy. We spent 5 weeks staying at the FlatIron while Dan worked at the VA Hospital and LOVED every minute. We had the opportunity to stay in Suites 2,3, & 4 while there and they are all amazing. We also looked at Suite 1 and will be back to stay there sometime. The staff treated us like we were family and knew us by name within a few days. They thought of everything. It was a wonderful home away from home for the summer.

This property was more than we expected. My wife and I decided to get away from Gillette. We had recently heard of the FlatIron as a great place to stay. We were away for our anniversary and stayed 3 night and visited both spas in town. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and a beautiful meal. The atmosphere and staff were very nice, the room more than we expected. A nice romantic get away... Jack Gillette, WY
