Wow, what a gorgeous house and a wonderful Lake Michigan Beach! We decided to start our family tradition, now that our kids are all moved out of state and are having families of their own, to get together for 1 week a year and just be a family. I really don't know if we could have picked a nicer place with perfect amenities. Each family unit had their own bedroom and nobody had to trip over anyone else. I can’t stress enough how big this place is! The kitchen was extremely well done and we didn’t take very long stocking it with what we brought. The dishes and silverware and glasses are all 1st rate. The pots/pans/coffee maker/toaster, etc., worked perfectly and were of a good quality to use. Even the kitchen knives were good and sharp. We spent each day on the beach (yes, the 75 stairs could be an issue, but good planning went a long way) and each evening gathered around the dining table and the screened-in room, with some nights watching the Olympics on TV (very nice having a satellite feed for TV viewing). We spent 1 rainy day up at the sand dunes, buzzing around in rental dune buggies, and another rainy day at the golf course nearby. (There is also a great indoor water park at that resort). One minor complaint would be what some refer to as the fruit flies (I believe they were just gnats), but anyway, they manage to get in through the screens and are a small annoyance, but some homemade remedies took care of them. One bit of advice is to keep the kitchen windows closed. We also found the beds a bit small, since the bedrooms were so huge it would have been nice to sleep in a king-size bed, however, the linens were well cared for and clean and the beds were comfortable. The owners were extremely attentive, giving us a heads up that a plumber was coming on one day, and checking on us on some of the other days. They always answered their phone for questions. The owners have created this wonderful place with well-thought out furniture, artwork, books, games, etc., and stocked it with all of the necessary tools in order for you to have an extremely relaxing vacation. We are even now trying to coordinate our schedules for next year, as I don’t know that we want to ever go anywhere else.

The minute we walked in, we knew we had found a special place for our family reunion. The cottage, itself, is beautiful. One's eye immediately heads right on down the hall towards the open French doors, past the screened-in porch and onto the trees with the glimmer of Lake Michigan peeking through. The kitchen is commodious and well-appointed. The shared living space includes the kitchen, the living room, the porch and on several days, the outside deck. The house is well-built and has been furnished in a way that is unusual in rentals. Everything is solid and loved and the house exudes these qualities right down to its foundation. Cooking for a crowd is challenging, but with a kitchen that is as well thought out as this one is and that is filled with everything you need to create night after night of masterful meals, we enjoyed excellent food, great company and the wonderful Michigan nights. And, oh, the screened-in porch! We ate out there on the picnic table. We played cards and we talked and laughed. Because there are four bedrooms, people also had their private spaces. The two upstairs bedrooms shared a bathroom. The main floor is large and is right next to another full bathroom with the laundry right down the hall. The fourth bedroom is in the basement but it doesn't feel like a basement because of the windows. There is also a pool table in another room that saw some action most nights. And this floor, too, has a full bath. The steps down to the lake were daunting at first, but they soon became just part of what we did several times a day. And, we all came home more fit than when we arrived. There is also a heated outside shower that allowed us to wash off most of our accumulated sand before coming into the cottage. All of these thoughtful touches along with the art found in the home are part of why we loved this cottage so much. We also appreciated the help the owners gave on the few occasions we needed it. We feel so very fortunate to have found this lovely cabin and hope to return some day. We were truly sad to leave, but we leave with wonderful memories and a sense of having been somewhere most special.

Our family has been looking for a beach home to return to year after year. This year we found it. The owners, Don and Sue, have a knack for details, ensuring every need is met during a stay in their home. From chairs at the beach and logs for campfires, to the well-equipped kitchen, gas grill, washer and dryer, this gorgeous home has it all. The three floors enabled each of our three families private space. We did leave the residence for a few local activities: winery tours, dune rides, local bike trail, and "moo school" for the kids. But honestly, none of us wanted to leave this slice of paradise. We couldn't get enough of the private beach, and the views from the screened-in porch. Our first words when walking in were, "This is even more beautiful than the pictures!" Definitely a five star home. Definitely a five-star vacation home.

This is the second year that we have rented this perfect vacation home. The vacation there was just as nice as last year. As others have noted, the pictures of the house do not do it justice - it is even nicer. This home is at least as well equiped as our own home. The Millers are very helpful and take great pains to maintain this home in the very best condition. There are too many activities available in the area to list. This i the best place that we have found during the 36 years that we have returned to the Montage - Whitehall area.

Owner response: Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We do work hard to care for the beach house in a manner that our guests seem to enjoy. This has given us the opportunity to meet a lot of different people who come as guests. It is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun to share the place with others and see families enjoy their time together there. We love Lake Michigan and it It gives us much satisfaction to see others take in the beauty we find there. Don and Sue

We have stayed twice at this cottage and the companion cottage. Both times were great! The houses are clean and spacious. Great for large families. And the owners are friendly and responsive. We look forward to staying again!

My family has been coming to Michigan with my brother's family for the last 8 years and this house was the best so far. The pictures online don't really give the rooms justice. There are 10 of us in all, 4 adults and 6 kids and this was the best set up for us. The kids had the upstairs bedrooms. There was a "boys" room and a "girls" room and then the adults had the bedrooms on the two lower levels. This was the first place that we stayed at that you felt like unpacking your suitcase. All the closets are decked out with plenty of storage for everyone's clean and dirty clothes. The screened in porch was wonderful for being able to enjoy listening to the lake at night without having to worry about mosquitoes. We were lucky enough to experience a huge thunderstorm one night in the porch and it was so cool. The beach was beautiful and I liked that there were already chairs down there. We will be staying at the Bent Pine again! Beautiful!

From the moment that we walked into this home, we knew that our group had picked the right place. All of the pictures accurately represent the grounds and the home. However, they all come up short in showing you how really nice this place is. It has enough well furnished space for everyone to get together as a group and to have their own privacy also. It has all of the amenities that you need to focus on the vacation and relax. There is not one thing that was not in excellent condition or did not work properly. We have been coming to this area for vacations for 34 years. There is nota nicer place that we have bben able to find. We recommend it to anyone. The owners have been very helpful and considerate throughout the entire rental process and during our vacation time there.

Owner response: John, We enjoy it so much that guests have wonderful times at our place, and appreciate the care we take with it. Thank you for the feedback! Don and Sue

This rental was fantastic. We stayed over the Thanksgiving week. The first day was so warm, we enjoyed the screened in porch and mountain biking. The following days were spent by the fireplace and walks on the beach (bundled up). The kitchen was well equipped. We cooked a festive Thanksgiving dinner and had all the pots/pans that we needed. There was plenty of room to "work" in the kitchen and a large table that sat 8 of us. We are planning on coming back in the summer!

We spent a wonderful week here with our extended family in July. The house is fantastic: immaculate, beautifully decorated and very comfortable for our group of 11. The kitchen is open and very well equipped, and the deck and screened porch are great for relaxing. The setting is lovely: a natural, wooded area on the lake. Access to Lake Michigan is a very sturdy stairway to the beach, and the views are stunning. We hope to visit again soon!

Perfect does not even begin to describe this home and our vacation in this home. The pictures of this home does not do it justice, it is much more spacious and beautiful. We cooked all our meals at the house as we just never wanted to leave to go anywhere else. There was plenty of room for our large group to move around. The screened room was perfect, for early morning coffee (thank you for having a coffee grinder) and evening board games. Our six grand daughters loved the outdoor shower as well as the adults. The property was breath taking, the woods and the beach. The weather and the water were wonderful. Don and Sue were very accommodating. We definitely will return. Thank you again, Brian and Lori

Aura Skincare and Cosmetics decided in 2009 to do something special for our hard working group of makeup artist. So, instead of our usual workshops and training at Design 1 Spa Salon, we took more time and had an extraordinary experience at this beautiful home. We had meetings and fellowship around the campfires, a very large screened in porch was perfect for workshops, the fully equipped dream kitchen was perfect for preparing grand meals. Very clean and very spacious. We are planning our second annual retreat for 2010. Thank you. Thank you. Beyond perfection.

We took our children and grandchildren (4, 1, 9 mos.) for a family outing. We had everything we needed to relax and enjoy the Lake and the accommodations. Everyone was very comfortable. Loved being near the cornfields. Take the dune rides, 15-20 min. away. There is a firepit for the evenings, samores each night. Screened in porch was very comfortable. Susan and Don were a pleasure to work with. Enjoy!

We have been vacationing with the same family for 10 years and this home was the cleanest we have seen in 10 years. Plenty of space for 12 people and while the walk down to the beach still has those famous Lake Michigan steps, the stairway was safe and well kept. We will be back next year if we are able to work it out. Thank you

Great home that provides plenty of space for a large family. Having three floors with bedrooms, bathrooms on each floor really helps with the traffic flow for bedtime and showers in the morning. Nice private setting allows you to enjoy the beach without the crowds and parking. It doesn't get much better than enjoying a beer and roasting marshmallows around the fire pits on the beach as the sun goes down. An ample supply of firewood is provided. Cell phone reception is poor, but then again vacations are a time to put the cell phones and computer away. Last, but not least, the couple that owns the house are very nice and helpful. Would definitely consider coming back.

AWESOME! What a fantastic cottage on Lake Michigan... Details, details and more details. Fresh, clean, functional and cozy! The cottage/home was fabulous... all the amenities you can think of including a full service kitchen ready for whatever you need. A deck and a great screened in porch with views of the lake and the largest trees we've seen in a long time! Meander through the path, over the bridge and to the beach which is outstanding; sandy and ready for long walks, sun and fun! The owners were great to work with and definitely know the rental business. Stress free vacation at it's best!

I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a beautiful spot on Lake Michigan. A view of Lake Michigan can be seen from almost every room and the cottage is very comfortable, tastefully decorated and very well maintained and clean. There is a path to the wooden bridge and stairs with soft lighting at night. On a short walk there are a few other cottages along the beach. On a longer walk you will find larger cliffs with only occasional cottages. The property owners were very service oriented and easy to work with.
