When you stay at the Shipp's Cabin, you will sleep to the sound of ocean waves and a gentle ocean breeze in this professionally decorated beachfront villa, conveniently located on the popular Isle of Palms Front Beach strand. Set just behind the sawgrass dunes, from your balcony you'll enjoy a clear view of the surf, while experiencing a special privacy, out of view from onlooking beach crowds. The private fishing pier located on the grounds was recently used as a set in the movie 'Dear John'.
If you don't feel like grilling out at the beach side barbecue pits, you are only a stones throw from the Banana Cabana, Huck's Lowcountry Table, Coconut Joes, the world famous Windjammer beach bar and grill and the Front Beach shopping area. This condominium complex claims the only pier on the Front Beach strand and is private for your fishing or relaxation enjoyment.
When you are not enjoying the sun, the surf and the private pool, you are only twelve miles from the Historic District of Downtown Charleston, South Carolina, ranked the #1 city in the world to visit by the Conde' Nast Traveler Magazine Reader's Pole in 2012, where you will find endless restaurants, shopping and tours to fill your vacation days and nights.

Great place, Great location. This place is so very clean. The owner uses mattress pads and cleans after each stay. The place was clean as a pin and smelled so very nice when we walked in. The pictures posted on VRBO are exact. Bunk beds and other beds were very comfortable with 4 inch foam. Owner responds quickly and respectfully with any questions. I would highly recommend this place or any other place this owner rents!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Top Bunk Not Safe Enough
Top Bunk Not Safe Enough

Nearly everything during our stay was adequate, and most amenities were positive. However, I can't recommend this property for families with young children who intend to make use of both of the hallway bunks. As the ad states, the bunks are 30 inches wide, which is narrow--the width of a toddler bed. But the bunks do not have permanent rails--as most bunk beds do-- to prevent kids from rolling out and falling to the floor. A convertible bed rail was supplied, but why just 1? The number of safety rails is a moot point because it is an ineffective, haphazard safety system. The bed rail posts are too long to fit under the bunk mattress and within the bunk frame, so we fitted them under the floppy, ever-shifting 1-inch top mattress. The weight of the child leaning against the rail is enough to flip child and all onto the floor (or onto strategically-placed sofa cushions in our daughter's case). This makes the top bunk completely out of the question. One of several things need to happen to make this a safer situation. 1. Permanent bed rails need to be installed (there must not be building codes to apply to installed bunks because the current ones would surely fail). 2. An alternative safety system with better convertible bed rails and minus the lousy 1-inch mattresses. 3. Explicit and coherent instructions posted prominently next to the bunks (if the owner thinks we missed something). In my opinion, option 1 is the only appropriate demonstration of a commitment to safety.Owner response: The portable beds rails do fit under the mattress and lock in to the side frame when inserted properly. The rails we cut to fit the bed size.Usually only one rail for the top bunk is necessary because the lower bunk is close to the floor but additional bed rails are available and would be delivered with a simple phone call to the management. The bunk beds are ideal for children and smaller adults. Children are always very excited about these beds when they see them. The beds are also very comfortable because they have a full thickness mattress underneath and AND a 3" thick memory foam mattress topper for additional comfort.

Very well furnished and maintained. The place is extra clean, comfortable and exactly as described in the listing. Good location in the heart of Isle of Palms with a view of the sea from the balcony. Also about 30 minutes away from Charleston Visitors Center.Ideal spot for a couple or a family with young children. The only annoyance was the bedroom ceiling fan that need to be fix because too noisy Everyyhing else worked properly and we spent a very good week. We would certainly stay there again if we get the chance to return in the area . Thanks Yoland Pronovost MontréalDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Excellent beds. Sleeper sofa too. Nice audio visual system. Very nicely appointed with new appliances and flat screen TV's. Great location. Walking distance to restaurants and shops is nice. The fishing pier is great and has a fish cleaning station. Nicely lit at night. We caught lots of fish. Super clean in the condo. Nice attention to detail. Just a great place to stay on the beach for a most reasonable price. We will come back. Thanks!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

The location was great! Acess to pool / beach / pier was great. The condo needs some attention. Deep cleaning, living rm furniture needs to be replaced, sleeper sofa kind of uncomfortable. Cable connection was very bad, kept going out and when we ran the dishwasher it smelled like there was a dead animal in there somewhere! We had to open doors to air out condo. Grounds keeper / maintenance man could use some people skills. We were unloading our car at the stairs since there is no elevator, just to save on trips through the parking lot and was told we better move the car or we would be towed. We weren't parked there even 10 minutes and never left the car unattended. We did enjoy our stay, we just wanted to give you some constructive critisizm to help make the stay even better for all who visit. Thanks so much. It really was great! We spoke to several tenants who were repeat occupants and everyone was satisfied.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We have 2 small children and the condo was perfect. Beach and pool were great. Close to some nice restaurants. The Sea Biscuit has a very good breakfast. We asked the owner for an extra parking pass and it was there the next day. The pier is fun to go to. They were catching sharks, the kids loved it. Only about 15 minutes to downtown Charleston. We will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

The condo was clean and easy to find, the security for the beach and the pier was adequate, the view and the sound of the waves was delightful. The stairs closest to the condo were under construction so we had to tote all our stuff to the opposite side of the building (not easy with a toddler), but that was just a temporary condition. I would absolutely return...just for longer than a weekend!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

The condo was very nice except the 1 bathroom was kind of hard to deal with at times.Had a very good hd tv to watch the Alabama-Fl game and all the other games on that Saturday. Friday at the beach was great but Saturday we ran into a problem. About 60 people from the county park took over the beach in front of the Sea Cabins. We had set up and when we came back from lunch they had taken the beach over. We finally just had to leave due to having to listen to all the loud laughing and talking. Later that evening I saw them all leaving the park walking and noticed that walk- ins were free. I suggest on a beautful Saturday do not go to the beach. Other than that it was a good trip.If it wre not for the problems on the beach I would rate my stay as 5-ExcellantRecommended for: Families with young children, age 55+.
