Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
Owners Bill and Nancy Batterson built "bluewater house" in 2005, replacing their summer cottage on Big Glen Lake. They had retired from General Motors and had previously lived on Williams Lake in Waterford, Michigan. Bill had been an Engineering Director in Flint and Nancy had been a Technical Education Manager at the GM Technical Center in Warren.
Why the Owner Chose Glen Arbor
Blil's parents started vacationing at Glen Lake when he was eight years old. It quickly became his favorite place to be and in 1971 he was fortunate to acquire the property on which the original cottage stood. The cottage was used for Summer and weekend vacations for over thirty years. Bill and Nancy began construction of bluewater house in 2004 and have made it their home since May of 2005.
The Unique Benefits of this Lodge
Guests at bluewater house will find friendly hosts, a spectacular lakefront location, stunning views of Big Glen Lake, and much to enjoy and do, both there and in the surrounding Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore area.

Nice Units But No Privacy

This is the 11th place that I have rented on VRBO. I have been happy with all the units condition. This unit was the first that had an owner on the property. Based on our rental here, we will make sure to avoid owner occupied properties in the future. The units are very nice for Glen Lake. However, this was negated by the owners living in the house above. They are very particular and you certainly have the feeling you are always being watched. On a few occasions the owners scolded our young children for throwing rocks into the lake. They should never be addressing our 2, 3 and 4 year old children directly. I had a big problem with this. This rental is a wonderful bed and breakfast style rental, but does not offer the privacy of a summer lake house with the family.
Owner response:We appreciate the reviewers having taken time to share their concerns. We take great care to provide a clean, relaxing, and pleasant place for our guests...trying to accommodate their needs in as many ways as possible. Yes, this is an owner occupied property, as are many others on Glen Lake. Our guests have private entrances and exclusive use of the facilities along the beachfront and we try very hard to assure their privacy, but we do live here. We know that children like to throw rocks into the water, but to protect the integrity of our seawall, we ask that they do not do so along the shoreline. That request is included in the information and guidelines provided to our guests in each suite. Upon returning from a boat ride, we noted the children throwing rocks from the seawall into the lake and politely asked them not to do so. Speaking to the young children was not meant to cause them (or their parents) consternation, but to address the concerns about the seawall. We agree that it would have been better to address the issue with the parents, who were there with them. We have offered our rentals for over seven years and we attempt to provide a beautiful, tranquil spot for our guests to relax and enjoy. Many families return year after year. Testimony of their positive experiences have been recorded in the journals in the suites. We try to assure that our guests have their privacy and it is unfortunate that these folks felt that our presence on the property resulted in them feeling uncomfortable. bluewater house owners and hosts
