I thought I'd found a great deal with the price, description and reviews. But I was sorely disappointed. Gill and Adrian were very nice and all, polite, but definitely DO NOT take care of their place and we had some significant problems, all of which I brought up to the owners as follows, yet they did nothing except offerred verbal excuses. 1) They don't tell you that the "short 2mins walk to the beach" is across a VERY busy road, and is a total hazard to cross with no sidewalk nor pedestrian crossing. We had little kids and it was terrible. Don't stay here if you want a place you can "walk to the beach" but you have kids. 2) Our crawling 1yr old discovered that the floors in the condo were FILTHY. His knees and hands became quickly black, disgusting. They sent in a cleaning lady apologizing, and blaming the ash from cane fires. But after she mopped the floors under my supervision it was fine for the rest of our 8 day stay..... err, shouldn't this be done before we moved in?! General cleanliness of the unit was poor. 3) The dishwasher stank, and didn't clean anything remotely well 4) The clothes washer stank and didn't work well at all. Clothes came out with washing powder stuck to them. The cycle didn't complete properly. There is NO dryer like it claims on the amenities listing. The dryer is the bountiful sun and a line outside. 5) Driving: this was easy and on the left side of the road. Bajans are courteous. We rented their car, Rav 4. They're legally supposed to require me to get a Bajan drivers permit, but they didn't mention it, so nor did I! It is diesel and unfortunately it has a fuel line leak. After running it, when you stop, it drips diesel and smells strongly of diesel fumes. I receive it with a fuel tank on empty and commented... they said that's how they roll in Barbados! OK! Otherwise it worked, but struggled to get up some of the steep inland hils. We went up to the Wildlife Preserve and over to the east coast, and sometimes had to use first gear on hills! But that's a weak diesel car for you. We were praying the car wouldn't break down because there are no gas stations around and we were more than an hour from home. Roads are tiny and poorly labelled so get a GOOD map! I ususally rely on my iPhone map, and felt naked without it. 6) They do have a pool(s) and hot tub which was nice. However they were dirty. We all got ear infections, I suspect from the hot tub. Stale, dirty water. Covered by a tarp instead of proper cover.to be cont

Our 11 family members arrived in Barbados for a wedding that went off with very few hitches in Holetown, not far from Sandown. We had a great stay at Sandown. We are used to vacationing on the coast of Oregon, so the tropical weather, beautiful scenery and amazing beaches were fantastic! Gil and Adrian were so accomodating and we loved getting to know them and their daughters throughout our week. Anything we needed help with...all we had to do was ask. They knew us by name and made sure we had what we needed. One night, my parents arrived home to find that an animal (monkey?) had been sick on their fronch porch and Gil was out there cleaning it all up at 11 at night. They helped with finding taxis for us (William and Roy are the best!) as well as directions and eating reccomendations. Try Wendy's for great Marlin! That was our first meal after flying over 16 hours and the Banks beer and Marlin and fries hit the spot! We enjoyed our condos and were glad we had two right near each other. Things were clean and the grounds kept very clean and lovely. The pool was clean and well lit at night. My kids LOVED visiting Dillian, the parrot, and Holly the dog. We really felt right at home at Sandown and it is mostly due to the service we received and the warmth of the Gil and Adrian and Collin. Of course, there were quirks but we're adaptable people and we just figured out other ways to do things. We were in Barbados of all places so who can complain! One of the air conditioning units leaked at my parent's place, and the dish washer in our condo didn't work quite right (which Gil tried to help with). The dryers don't work right due to the humidity so we just air dried out stuff on drying racks which worked great. We had enough room for all of us when we had dinner together and we felt like we could relax. We did break a few wine glasses but left money to replace them, although a few more drinking glasses would be good since there are 6 people in each place. All in all, we had a great time! And we'd stay there again. The beach is a quick walk across the street and beautiful! And there are great places to eat out: Daphne's, Zachios, Surf Tides as well as a fish market which was amazing! The people of Barbados are amazing...so friendly and go out of their way to help you. I'm glad my new sister - inlaw is Barbadian so now we have new family to go visit!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Sandown Estate for 2 and half weeks and have had an absolutely lovely time. The pool is gorgeous.... (although the slide needs fixing for the children).. It is a perfect size and is big enough to share with other families comfortably. The hot tub is a great bonus too. Gill and Adrian rented us the MPV for the full stay for a reasonable rate, and I am glad we did. Barbados is a great island and definitely calls for being explored. The best local beach is Crystal Cove, however there is no beach bar for evening drinks and snacks... best one we found was Ju Jus by the Lonestar up north of Holetown,. Il Tiempos is fine, but not our favourite and Cranes Beach is the best on the Island over on the East Coast and definitely worth a visit. St Nicholas Abbey, beautiful. and Codrington Hall, and Huntes Gardens. Only cons are that it isn't really 'Luxury' there are definitely 'finishing' issues. The odd hole in the wall, gaps between cupboards, painting to varying quality, tiles still had numbers written on them, bad saucepans.... (take your own knives and veggie peelers) . They would definitely benefit from having some cable television, as the DVD's we borrowed, again were varying quality. Bring your laptops with some films on them and wire it into the TV which is a very good Samsung Flat screen. Oh, and there is only one shower.... a shower fitting and screen would be a benefit in one of the bathrooms. All in all a lovely lovely holiday, and we would recommend the villas for a relaxing stay. Thank you Gill and Adrian

These properties were built, and equipped to a very basic standard. They are now in need of renovation and updating after constant use over a number of years. Old and tired appliances, bedlinen which was worn and over covers that were shredded. The T.V is for DVDs only and the WiFi did not work. Basic means very basic, not even a place to hang a towel in any of the bathrooms. Water leaking through tiles. Good area for accessing Holetown as the bus stops at the end of the road but access to local beach is minimal and over a busy road. I would not recommend these properties to a friend.

Owner response: This review is not in keeping with the others received and perhaps is comparing 5 star hotels with self catering villas. Our linen is replaced as needed and all the appliances are working normally. Not sure what tiles were leaking since there are non upstairs and we have had no issues with water. The wi fi is working normally - although there was a problem with the internet supplier - out of our control. Fortunately we do receive a substantial number of recommendations and plenty of repeat customers to whom we must thank.

We stayed at Sandown 9 during our Christmas vacation 2011. Pros: -With 3 bedrooms and bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen/living room, a large balcony (perfect for breakfast and evening meals outside), pool access and only a short walk from the beach we were very pleased with our choice of accommodation. There is also a barbecue if you fancy yourself on the grill. -The location is great! A supermarket is close by and Bridgetown, Holetown and Speightstown are easily accessible by car or bus. There are also some great eateries nearby - notably the Tides restaurant, Daphnes and Just Grillin. - Malcolm who lives on the estate is a PADI instructor. He's a great guy and took us out on his boat to see and snorkel with turtles and view old shipwreck which was an amazing experience! Would have given a higher star rating but there were a few cons: -On arrival, villa wasn't thoroughly cleaned but Gill arranged for cleaner to return and we were happy with result - Some home maintenance issues which should really be repaired eg: loose shower door, kitchen cupboard, board under sink narrowly avoided falling on my feet, balcony door didn't lock -We had a bit of an issue with bugs in our villa, however, it is a hot tropical climate so not entirely surprising. Though not helped by some gaps for them to crawl in. - Ad listed telephone access but no phones in property which was disappointing as landline calls in Barbados are free and makes life easier if need to call around (Gill does offer use of her own phone if necessary) -No television channels at all. Gill and Adrian do invite you to make use of their large dvd collection but would be nice to have choice to watch TV if you choose to. - Wireless internet connection did not work, so had to wire to laptop which was awkward as had to stand or perch on breakfast chair to use which was uncomfortable. In sum: We'd definitely recommend Sandown Estate -as despite the cons which can be easily and quickly addressed and we hope our constructive review will help encourage this- staying in one of these villas is very good value and you will enjoy the freedom of self-catering and it's great location and outdoor facilities. And Gill and Adrian are very approachable if you have any questions or have any issues.

We just returned from a wonderful vacation here. Gill and Adrian and their family make sure you feel welcome and informed about activities and facilities in the area. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the villas and the grounds. The condo itself is clean, comfortable and spacious enough that 5 of us never felt cramped or in each others' way. The shared pool is great but the nearby beach was our favourite hangout. We used the local bus to get around with no problem but Gill arranged a taxi to and from the airport and when we toured the island for the day. Malcolm (a neighbour) took us out to snorkel and is available for diving too. We also took a day tour with Small Cats to snorkel in Carlyle Bay. The locals make you feel welcome with a "hello" or "welcome to Barbados" as you walk along the street. We'd go back for sure!

We just returned from staying at Sandown and I have to say that all five of us were completely thrilled with the location and the space. The two lower bedrooms are large - and the 3rd with the twin beds on the upper floor quite adequate - The kitchen open concept living room was amazing but for us the terrace overlooking the pool and with views of the Carribbean sunsets was the best - we ate all meals outside - dinner by candlelight - bbq - bus stop right at the end of the driveway and 5 min walk to an awesome beach at Crystal Cove. Our hosts, Gill and Adrienne were the best - even went out and bought us a new coffee maker - arranged for transportation and offered great ideas. If you like to dive or snorkel, Gill will get you in touch with Malcolm - we swam with the green back turtles. There is a local pub called Wendy`s within a 8 min walk when Gill tells you the shortcut - great place to hang out with the locals and btw - everyone is sooooo nice and friendly. Jordans Market is about a 10 minute walk - good idea to take a backpack and maybe some cloth bags for groceries - we did just fine. The supemarket in Holetown which is a 10 min bus ride, has a broader selection. Tried the flying fish at the small fish market - pan fry - try the bajan seasonings - 10 min walk. Tour the island with William - wow - what beautiful coastlines...made it to Oistins on Friday night and yes the lineups at the Fish Net are true - super fish. Sandown was friendly, quiet and a very 'limin' experience - clean grounds and pool and after our tour of the island probably the best 'bang' for your dollar you will find for couples or families - great pool - awesome beach - wow sunsets. thanks Gill and Adrienne - Lynne, Bryan, Don, Gayle and Pat

We were 7 and spent 2 weeks in this villa and it was just perfect. Villa is super clean, looks new, furniture is tasteful and everything is in perfect order. Maid comes once per week. Rooms are conditioned and well ventilated. Bathrooms are equipped with towels. You have washing machine and dishwasher in the villa and Wifi access. The living room is perfect for watching movies or having drinks with 6-7 persons or even more if some people are willing to sit on the carpet. Balcony is also so big, that we had dinners there with 7 persons. There is a grill outside, so you can buy fresh fish from the fish market and prepare it outside. You dont wanna miss that :) Landlord is just the most amazing woman, really cheerful and as soon as you need something, she will help you out. One evening we were sitting on the balcony and heard someone singing like a bird and it was landlords daughter, who was performing next to the pool for the guests. Unbelievable voice, you have to hear it to understand it :) Beautiful beach is just 2 minutes walk away. Pool and jacuzzi are open 24/7. Holetown is few km away and there is a big grocery store, duty free shop and some small shops, plus bars and restaurants. You have a possibility for transfer from the airport to the villa and back. You just have to ask it from Gill. I wouldnt try to drive from the airport to the villa on your own in the dark. Roads in Barbados are a bit tricky, you have to get used to with their way of showing directions :) So best way to get from the airport to the villa is to ask for the trasfer from landlord. If we ever go back to Barbados, we will definitely stay there again :) We really didnt have any complaints about this place. This villa and Gill made our holiday :)

We stayed at the Fitts property last Christmas and after the wonderful time we had, we decided to return this year. Hard as this may be to believe Gill and Adrian and their wonderful family made this holiday experience even better than last year's visit! This property is a jewel and the photographs and write-up of the property really do not show how truly exceptional this venue is. From the moment of arrival the owners and staff go out of their way to do everything possible to make your holiday a remarkable experience. We would like to thank Gill and Adrian and the rest of the family for once again making this a holiday to remember! The facilities are kept in pristine condition and as stated the photos really do not do justice to the property. The rooms are spotless and very large, the grounds are spotless and the staff really go out of their way to do all they can to ensure you have a great time! A treasure that must be seen to be appreciated. Anyone who visits should make sure they visit Wendy's restaurant located a short walk away for a real taste of Carribean cooking. Nicola and her husband John (owners of Wendy's) always went out of their way to welcome us to their establishment! thanks to everyone from Fitts who once again made this a holiday to remember! Would recommend the property to anyone looking for a great family oriented holiday.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Sandown 9. We booked after being invited up to visit by friend who stayed there and absolutely feel in love. Gill is a WONDERFUL host who was very accommodating and her and her husband have an extremely high level of true customer service. Sandown 9 was directly next to the small pool, with a back entrance leading from the back bedroom through a gate to the pool, which made it seem very private. The depth of the small pool was only about 5ft at the deep end and was perfect for my 3 year old daughter when she joined us on our last day. The bigger pool has a maximum depth of 9ft which we braved as well as a diving board and slide. The jacuzzi was a perfect way to end the day, relaxing and gazing at the stars. The beach is also just a walk across the road. The rooms: Fully Air- conditioned and well ventilated. The bedrooms were perfect, (we slept in all three as it was only us staying lol). Bathrooms were clean and well equipped with towels and with a tub and washing machine in one of the bedrooms and showers in the other two. The living room area is adequate enough for a small gathering of friends as well as the upstairs deck. The kitchen has all you require for cooking from pots and cutlery to kettle and electric stove. The estate is extremely easy to locate and is directly on the island's Platinum Coast. I have recommended Sandown to all of my friends and some visitors to the island as well. Definitely consider staying here whether you are a tourist or local, you will enjoy yourself immensely. Thanks to Gill once again and I will be back there again for my birthday weekend!

Accommodation on the whole good - but with a little thought could be so much better. Bathrooms - two to the three did not have stand up showers, only a hand held spray, no bracket on the wall to hold the shower head and no curtain or shower screen - water went everywhere, Not one shelf in the bathroom, no holder for the toilet roll or anywhere to put your toothbrush. No towel rail, wet towels has to be put over wardrobe doors or on the balcony to dry. Linens could have been so much nicer, just good quality cotton sheets and fluffy towels would have been nice. Swimming pool nice but hot tub not in operation when we were there. No telephone No local or sky tv channels, yes there is a television but for watching dvd's on only. There is a beach across the road but to the right of the path there is a hotel with their beds and facilities and to the left of the path we were told by the locals not to use - its very rocky with a strong current for swimming and they have LION FISH in the water which are very poisonous. If these sting its an immediate trip to hospital!! A CAR IS NEEDED. No where to walk to even the local restaurant - Wendy's was closed when we were there. Main shops and restaurants are in Holetown 2/3 miles up the road.

Firstly I must thank Adrian and Gill for being such wonderful hosts. This was the first visit to Barbados for myself and my family and what a beautiful place it is. Our holiday was made even more pleasurable by staying at Sandown. Sandown is an attractive development of modern, well furnished, well equipped and or course air conditioned villas. Located in Fitts Village, St James, on the west coast if the island, Sandown was a perfect location for us. The local beaches were a few minutes walk away and offer sailing, jetski hire and other water borne actvities. Jordan's, the local supermarket is a few minutes drive away (within walking distance) and are open to 10pm most evenings. There is also a much larger supermarket situated where Errol Barrow Highway meets Gordon Cummings Highway (6km away), this should have everything you require including fresh roast chickens - should you not get the urge to cook. Oistins Fish Fry on a Friday night is a great night out, with good food good music and a great atmosphere, and is only a 30 minute drive from Sandown. Sandown is a great place to stay and all island activities are never too far away, I dream of returning. Thanks again, Adrian and Gill.

Amazing! Even better than we imagined!!! We have just returned from our week in Barbados staying at the Sandown Villa’s and can honestly say it’s the best villa’s we have stayed in. We were a very large group (wedding party) of 26 and had 5 of the Villa’s and each and everyone was exactly like the pictures and had great facilities! As all the other reviews say Gill and Adrian were lovely and so helpful, I don’t think we could have arranged half of our wedding without them, they were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble, they even put on Karaoke for us a couple of nights which was great fun!!! Location wise it is right near the beach, Jordan’s supermarket 5/20 mins down the road and the bus stop outside the villas take you into Holetown! We got a taxi into Bridgetown and St Lawrence gap a couple of time which was pretty cheap and didn’t take too long. Malcolm who lives next door arranged a couple of great boat trips too! Oh and William was great too! I would definitely recommend the villas, you get a real feel of Barbados by staying here and we will definitely return here!

We had a fantastic time at Sandown in St. James, Barbados. Gill and Adrian were excellent hosts who were available to deal with any issues. Gill and Adrian were flexible, informative and gracious and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. As we were travelling with our teenage daughter, and with their girls the same age, they included her in outings and even had a sleepover one night. The girls got on well and still stay in touch! Our villa was very clean, well maintained and very spacious. It was also well stocked with the necessary tools for cooking etc. The villas were beautiful and the grounds were landscaped and well tended as the photos depict. There was bus service to Bridgetown and Holetown and beyond and the stops are in front of the resort. Wendy's restaurant was very convenient and the food was great! There is music on friday and saturday nights. There are grocery stores in both directions as well as shopping. I would say that renting a car or having friends or family to take you out in the evening is recommended. For us the only drawbacks were that we did not have a landline phone and the phone cards for the cell phone were a bit expensive, also a good swimming beach was a short drive away. Otherwise, we had a great time and did not want to leave! We really enjoyed our visit and stay at Sandown and have recommended it to many of our friends and family. We are planning a return visit in the near future! We would rate Sandown a 4.5 -very good to excellent. Great job Gill and Adrian!

We just had the privlege of staying a Sandown for 10 glorious Nights. Our unit was new so it was very clean , very modern and felt like home to us. First day of arrival Gill put a BBQ put on our Balcony which was useful. Tons of TV channels(not that we went to Barbados to watch TV but it was an option for those lazy nights) Internet allowed us to keep in touch with folks at home. Pictures on the site represent EXACTLY what you will get !Quality place to stay. Price is beyond reasonable. Pools are empty most days so being next door to the "small" pool we felt we had our own private pool :-) Gill was the best hostess you could ever hope for. Always willing to help! William (one of two drivers recommended by Gill) is the best Taxi driver on the island... prompt, helpful, respectfull and courteous. This location is outside of a bustling town so if you like to wander in the evenings you would have to take a bus/cab to go someplace to do that. The area is really dark, no side walks and VERY quiet. However it's safe and you CAN do it but I'm just saying it's very quiet area with no resturants or bars close by so if QUIET is what you are looking for then this is the place for you. If you are like us and wanted QUIET but was willing to leave and take a bus or cab then within a 7 minute bus ride you have many options for both. Outside the gate is the bus stop that will take you anywhere on the island for 1.50 BDS. hang on cause it's an adventure but the most charming, kind and proud people take the bus. WE perferred the "music" bus (yellow and blue) because it was so crazy but fun bus and the attendants were all so helpful to tourist and even advised us the "best" stops to get off. Just remember in Barbado you put your hand out if you want the bus to stop for you. AND if you are in Sandown and want to go to Rockley Beach/Gap/ Oistins... take the blue bus with OISTINS that way you don't have to walk across Bridgetown in the heat to take another bus. Jordan's is a walk away and they WILL drive you back if you have lots of groceries. The walk though is an aventure as there is construction and there are no sidewalks. Prices are reasonable however limited selection in alot of cases. A larger more selection store is in the West Coast Mall (1 Stop North of Sunset Crest) which is only about 7 minute bus ride. This is a great place to stay. You won't be disappointed!

This is the best place to stay in Barbados! Gill is a wonderful host, a real family atmosphere. The homes new, new, new.......did I mention the homes are new! They are all super clean, and nicely furnished.....with a sat. tv :o) We stayed here in February of 2010 with two couples and two young kids. I absolutely fell in love with this place, and will ONLY stay here whenever we come back. I am in no way affiliated with the owner's.....just writing an honest review! Paul from Toronto

Had a very nice stay at Sandown. You have a great view of the sunset everyday from the balcony. Gill Simms arranged transportation from the airport at Sandown for us, and we used the same guy for a guided tour around the island and to the airport when we left the island. Gill and Adrian Simm live on the opposite side of the pool and help you with any problems you have. Very good service so felt very well taken care of.Gill arranged so we had extra beds and baby crib for our children. We were 6 adults and 2 small children and had plenty of room in the house. Malcolm is a local diver who lives on the left side just outside the gate. Had a great snorkel trip where we swam with sea turtles and coral fish. 100 meters to the main road and there are bus stops against Bridgetown just outside the Sandown. Towards Holetown is one just outside the Crystel Cove hotel, about 100 meters to go along the main road. We acted most foods at the Super Center in Holetown which has better range then Jordan. Jordan is the nearest supermarket 10 to walk from Sandown. Lots of buses going from the main road. We used them to get round the island, costs 1.50 barbados dollar whatever distance. Can use yellow private buses or blue public buses, but the price is the same. It's beautiful sandy beach at Crystel cove hotel or slightly to the Jordans. Recommend Sandown on the warmest of you will have a wonderful holiday.

This property offers exceptional value. Our hosts Adrian and Jill went out of their way to ensure that our family had a super visit. The apt was kept to exceptionally high standards and was fully furnished. The kitchen was well stocked with modern appliances. Not enough can be said about the very positive experience our family enjoyed. The grounds were immaculately kept and the staff were always helpful and very cheerful! Diving with Malcolm was a blast! Thanks for a great time!!!

My family decided to visit Barbados again as my family is from there we decided to rent because so many of us were travelling (7 adults, 5 kids - which included 2 infants). We rented 2 apartments from Gill and Adrian and have no regrets about our decision. The beach was right across the street and we had a swmming pool right out our door. The bus stop close by so we took the bus into Holetown and Bridgetown with out any problems. Adrian and Gill were more than accomodating and the facilities were fantastic. I had more phone calls than the normal tourist since I had family there and there was never a complaint from there about too many phone calls and Gill always had a smile on her face. If we were to visit again, we'd definitely consider staying there again and would also recommend these villas to friends. Thanks to Adrian and Gill for a great time!

We stayed at Sandown for one month, and enjoyed every minute, Gill and Adrian are very nice and very helpful., will go back again., The place was always kept clean, thank you to LaToya for cleaning our appartment. She always a wonderful job., We enjoyed renting a vehicle from Gill & Adrian, no worries. The only thing was our snorkeling trip with Malcom that he didn't do what he was suppose to do,he was in a rush to bring other people, so our tour was shorten, and he promissed to take us back, but did not., we were disapointed, but no big deal all the rest was great...thank you Gill & Adrian.
