The Painted Lady: Classic 1880 Queen Anne Victorian Flat
Experience the best that San Francisco has to offer in this 1500 square foot, classic, Queen Anne Victorian flat. It is perfectly located in the "heart" of the city, and a short two blocks from Alamo Square Park (home to the famous "Painted Ladies"). Along with being dog-friendly, the city views from this park make it the most photographed and filmed location in San Francisco.
Also within strolling distance are trendy restaurants and cafes, great shopping, and interesting attractions, including the famous Haight Ashbury District and the Castro. Or use our public transportation conveniently located steps away to discover the rest of the city. Museums, theatres, and most other attractions are within a short bus ride.
A perfect choice for a romantic getaway, vacationing with family or friends, or for the business traveler. The flat offers a large master bedroom with luxurious bedding on a queen bed, a smaller bedroom with another queen bed with equally lovely bedding, and two new, comfortable sleeper sofas (one in the formal living room and one in the family room) each equipped with a feather bed top. All sleeping areas can be completely closed off from other rooms for privacy. If you choose to test your own culinary talents, our spacious and fully-equipped kitchen will offer you everything you need; including a formal dining area that seats eight.
We know you'll enjoy your stay as much as our previous guests:

This was our first time renting a home while on vacation. It was a great experience. The house was clean & neat. It was located in a nice neighborhood. Walking distance to quite a few convenience stores. There is a bus stop right on the corner where you can get to anything you want to do in SF. The rooms were a great size. This was a great experience and I'm sure we will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

We stayed in the flat for 3 nights with our 9 months old son and had a great stay. The owners were easy to contact and very friendly and helpful. The flat is huge with 2 living rooms, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a kitchen, it's very clean and very well equipped. It is located close to many grocery stores, cafes and restaurants. There are several bus stops nearby, although we walked most of the time as it's very centrally located. We would definitely recommend this flat for a comfortable stay in SF!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family of four rented The Painted Lady for four nights! It was perfect for us. There was plenty of room to spread out after a long day exploring San Francisco. The neighborhood is filled with great restaurants and grocery stores are not far if you choose to cook. The whole house was comfortable from the beds to the towels. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to the West coast.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Was a really great experience and our first time every doing a VRBO and it all worked out just perfect ! The house was really nice and 6 adults and 2 kids they all had enough space and even more room to spare. The neat coffee shops, cafe's, pizza was all with in walking distance and the bus was right there !! A bit of a walk to downtown San Francisco but we did it a few times. Was a wonderful home and would tell anyone to rent it :) Thanks for sharing your home with us The Wuerflein !Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was a beautiful flat in a great location. We bought transit passes and were able to get around the entire city very easily. The kitchen was really well equipped and there were several wonderful grocery stores within easy walking distance. The linens were clean and fresh - comfortable beds and PLENTY of space. Jim was easy to contact and very helpful. Definitely a special feeling in this character home, it is as good as it looks. I recommend shopping at Trader Joe's on Masonic and having a light meal at The Bean Bag Cafe. We loved our stay here, and we will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent three wonderful nights in this beautiful Victorian on our first trip to the city. The house is beautiful both outside and in, immediately invoking the feeling that you have truly arrived in San Francisco. The helpful advice and notes from the owners allowed us to immediately navigate the neighbourhood with the insight of locals, and we had good experiences at all the suggested restaurants, shops and little sightseeing gems we might otherwise have missed. The house was within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go in the city, only blocks from Alamo Square and it let us feel we were right in the middle of the city. Grilling steaks on the deck and enjoying some Napa red really was the icing on a perfect city trip. We were two families, both with children under 2 and the kids loved the Victorian as well, the layout well suited to being there with children - and room to relax when they went to sleep. We couldn't have been happier and we will surely be back!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our group of ladies stayed in this beautiful painted lady and we are so happy we did! The space has character, is nicely decorated and is far more spacious than it appears in the images. We didn’t cook during our stay, but the kitchen was very well equipped had we decided to. After our long days of exploring + enjoying the city, we all looked forward to coming back to this space that felt like home the moment we dropped our bags. Our only regret is that we didn’t get the chance to enjoy the home more. We loved San Fran, we loved this home + we hope to be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We've used VRBO once before for a trip to the Smoky Mountains and had a bad experience. This, however, was completely the opposite. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay as far as location, convenience, proximity to all of the sites in SF, and the owners were just great, friendly people. After the first couple of days, we found ourselves coming back to the house at night feeling like we were back at home. This house is settled in a very comfortable and convenient part of town, and a very enjoyable neighborhood with just about everything you could ask for nearby. A great breakfast spot, deli-style lunch spot, mexican restaurant, coffee shop, grocery store, a couple of nice bars, and the most scenic park in SF ALL within 2 blocks of here. Definitely a younger/hip/stylish vibe, so that was something we really enjoyed about the neighborhood. But at the same time, this was a very nice, quiet place to come home to every night to re-energize for the next day of exploring SF. We came here from Kalamazoo, Michigan for our honeymoon and it was the perfect balance between a relaxing time and a day out on the town. The owners were fantastic and left us a very lengthy and informational to-do list with some of their own comments and opinions about each place (and it turned out being good advice in every instance) locally in the neighborhood & the rest of the town, AND we received a personalized greeting card when we arrived. It was also amazing to us how many dogs there were in the area. So if you plan on bringing a dog with you here, I would even more highly recommend this place (if the owners allow pets, but I think that they do). Generally, we never had a problem finding a spot to park - as there are plenty of on-street parking places to leave your car overnight within close proximity. We quickly became parallel parking experts. If we wanted to take public transportation into town, the quickest route was only a few short (downhill) blocks away. We would recommend this place to friends and family with absolutely no reservations, and we hope to come back again someday. Thank you Janice & Jim for everything!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I' m from Germany and I rented this flat over Internet. The whole transaction, e-mail contact with the owners and the payment via paypal worked absolutely quick and superprofessional, no problems at all. The apartment itself is well described and the photos here really show what you get. It's clean, quiet and very well equipped, it's definitely not one of these apartments where you only have two glasses and one fork in your cupboard... The neighbourhood is great, lots of dining places, bars and smaller grocery stores in the same street and you can reach the "worth to see districts" by foot. I would definitely stay in this nice and cozy place again and I can highly recommend this apartment to everybody!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I would HIGHLY recommend this flat to anyone! The location was great, Janice and Jim were very helpful and the apartment was perfect! It was much bigger than I had expected and we were thrilled that we had stayed here instead of a hotel. We didn't even need a car because the bus lines were right around the corner. The restaurants around the flat were awesome and it didn't take long to get anywhere. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to San Francisco. Thank you Janice and Jim!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Jim is a second generation San Franciscan and Janice certainly feels like a native after moving to this amazing city over 15 years ago. Having lived all over the city and experiencing the different personalities of each area, they decided to settle in the vibrant Alamo Square Historic District. This section of San Francisco has one of the highest concentrations of Victorian homes and they were thrilled to purchase their own "Painted Lady" 6 years ago.
Why the Owner Chose Other San Francisco Properties:
Although once an impressive 3 level single family home, at some point this magnificent 1880 Queen Anne Victorian mansion was tastefully divided into 2 units (with an absolutely charming apartment off the back garden added later). With our lab mix Brodie, we occupy the top level apartment, with the flat conveniently located on the first level. Given the ideal location for accessing all the sites of the city as well as what this neighborhood itself has to offer, we knew the flat would be a perfect vacation rental.
