This comfortable, sun-drenched home is spectacularly perched on a bluff overlooking Edgartown’s inner harbor on the tranquil shores of Chappaquiddick Island. Edgartown, with all its fun shops and restaurants, is just a short boat ride from your private dock, or a quick (3 minute!) ride on the famous "On Time" ferry (about three quarters of a mile from the house). However, the beautiful, untouched island of "Chappy" is your own backyard, complete with its gorgeous beaches and laid back charm.
Chappaquidick, well-known for its miles of protected, white sand beaches, quiet country roads and spectacular fishing spots, is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of town. Whether you choose to relax on our sunny deck overlooking the harbor, go for a spirited sail in the harbor, or head out to Wasque or East Beach for a day in the surf, you will be happy you chose Summerhouse for your vacation.
The large living room/dining room, with its wood burning fireplace, has wall to wall windows overlooking the deck and the harbor beyond.
Our kitchen, with a small eating area, is well equipped, with new appliances and all the dishes, cutlery, etc you would need.
The Master Bedroom, with ensuite bathroom, also enjoys the wonderful views, and has private access to the wrap-around deck. Two other bedrooms, both with twin beds, share a bathroom.
Completing the house is a basement play area, with a ping pong table.
The bunkhouse is perfect for overflow, with accommodations for four. There's an enclosed outdoor shower, with hot and cold water, ideal for rinsing off in after a day on the beach or a swim off the dock.
Steps lead down the bluff to our dock and small beach, which is great for an early morning swim. A deep-water mooring, suitable for a 35 foot sail or motor boat, can be made available. We also have a lovely double-ended rowing boat, as well as a canoe and a laser (sailboat), which you are welcome to use.

Lovely summer days..easy access to Edgartown, without being overrrun by its hustle and bustle...digging for clams in Caleb Pond, running up Katama Harbor in our sailboat.

What is it that makes Summerhouse such a magical place? What is it that caused our family to have our best vacation ever in this beautiful place? Why did our kids not even MENTION the word "computer" while we were there? Was it the amazing and always-present view? Was it being able to jump off the dock into Edgartown Harbor? Or catching fish and crabs and clams? Or the little bunnies that nibble on the day lilies? Or the fact that the Walshes are so hospitable and welcoming about their special place on Chappy? Whatever it is, we feel very fortunate to have had the privilege of spending time at this truly lovely house and can't wait to come back next summer!

Last summer our family was lucky enough to rent The Summerhouse on Chappaquidick, which we called a "slice of heaven". The house was furnished with everything we needed from beach towels to fire wood ( we did have a fire place fire one damp evening). We LOVED the deck overlooking Edgartown harbor and the wonderful dock below. The owners of this home were very friendly and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. It was obvious that they put a lot of effort into getting the house ready for us. This is a very comfortable house with spectacular views, even from the shower in the master bedroom!
