See the latest video of the surf on two of Punta del Burro's breaks: 1. 'Pools' and 2. In front of Casa Selvatica: Youtub: Burro's Surf Break Casa Selvatica
This beach lover's ocean front property, which also borders a lush palm-surrounded riverbed, is located on the sand directly in front of the well known 'Burro's' surf break, in a community called Punta del Burro. It is part of one of the earliest Punta Mita developments, which accounts for both its charm and its isolation – it is not adjacent to any town or village, and it is far from any of the problems currently associated with border towns and other urban centers in the country. It is private, it is safe, and you will experience the luxury of being able to watch the surf from either the patio in front of the main house, the private palapa off the master bedroom, or under the palm trees in the cozy sand-level sitting area.
The property consists of Casa Selvatica, the main house in front on the beach and two cottages, Casa Buena Suerte and Casa Lilia, in the gardens in back. Casa Selvatica is over 2000 square feet, has a living room, dining room, well-stocked kitchen, a guest room (queen bed) with patio downstairs and an entire master bedroom suite (king bed) upstairs with private palapa/patio look out area out over the ocean. In back in the garden is 1. Casa Buena Suerte, a suite with a large bedroom (king bed), a living room with two sleepable couches and a kitchenette, and on the path to the beach is 2. Casa Lilia, a studio with queen bed also with a small kitchenette. The three 'Casas' can sleep from 8 to 12 people.
Designed by architect Cristina Duque, these houses are full of creative exotic touches and unique approaches to design using tropical hard woods, cantera (Mexican volcanic stone), coral and marble. The large sweeping walkways, open air living areas, and high bamboo ceilings keep the houses cool year round. Tropical rare plants, orchids, haliconias, gingers, palms, cycads and more dot the lush abundant landscaping designed by botanist Carlos Sacamano. Over 18 varieties of tropical birds are ever-present visitors to this beach, these gardens and the palm forest next to the river bed.
The houses are located on just under an acre of land in Punto del Burro, one of Riviera Nayarit's most desirable secluded neighborhoods. It is gated, private and secure with 24/7 guard service. It is located approximately 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, 5 miles before the Punta De Mita Four Seasons Hotel, 3 miles past the new International Marina in Cruz de Huanacaxtle and 15 minutes from the surf town, Sayulita. Punto del Burro is a quiet, beautiful community offering spectacular views of the bay as well as a fabulous white sand beach free of crowds and vendors.
If you enjoy walking through gardens and palm forests, you can find at the back of the property a newly planted orchard of bananas (6 varieties), papayas, pineapples, oranges, lemons, limes, limas, tangerines, grapefruit, lychees, passion fruit, guavas, guanabanas (cheramoyas), figs, mangos and avocados. Given the incredible growth patterns in the tropics, many of the trees are starting to bear and you may find your own 100 lb. bunch of bananas hanging in front of the house.
The beauty of this property is that not only is it sitting directly on the sand in front of one of the area's best surf breaks, but it borders a lush tropical river bed with paths that go back through bamboo patches and palm trees ending up in an orchard surrounded by pink and orange bouganvilla plants - a true paradise for surfers, beach lovers, photographers, nature lovers and anyone who relishes the privacy and solitude afforded by a spectacular property and house located at the end of the road!
SURF INFO:
The main peak at Burros is a fast rippable right with a short left. Often there is another peak which will have good lefts and the occasional fast right with a fun beach break as well. Directly in front of the house is a very forgiving wave, perfect for beginners - however, many prefer it to the point as it is never crowded. This wave also happens to be perfect for boogie boarders and stand up paddle boarders! Burros is known to hold any size swell as well as be a wave magnet when other spots aren't breaking. I would say the surf is usually chest high with bigger sets.
Other breaks nearby are Destilladeros, Veneros, La Lancha, El Coral, Anclote, El Faro, and, of course, Sayulita.
Wavehunters Website:
'The best surf in winter is found around Punta de Mita and inside the Bay of Banderas on the sheltered reefs such as Burros, Playa La Lancha, and El Faro.'
Surf-mexico Website:
'Surfers In the Burros area report a sand and rock bottom with a right reef break and occasional barrels working with a west swell.'
Amigosurfmexico Website:
'Surf in The North Shore of Banderas Bay: Punta Mita faces due South, with deep-water canyons focusing exceptional waves at off shore reefs. Punta del Burro and Destiladeras Beach among others, have the swells often times swing in with full Pacific power and it is usual to enjoy 8-12 ft waves throughout the year.'
Keywords: Rent one bungalow - or two - or the entire property located on the beach in small community of 20 houses. Perfect learners' wave right in front of the house! Surfboards, Stand Up Paddle Boards & Kayaks available.

We just returned from our wonderful week at your lovely Casa. My husband's and my third visit but the first for the other 3 couples who joined us. Everyone had a great time and were delighted with the accommodations. We all got into the kick-back-and-relax spirit and we hardly left the property. Why leave paradise? We absolutely adored Chef Octavio and his wife Allie ... he's an incredible chef. We dined like royalty. Best of all were their great smiles - they got right into the craziness of our group (Mousetrap Reunion aka Ratones) ... complete with them donning mouse ears. Each meal was better than the next. We adored both of them. We hired them for both lunch and dinner - what a wise decision! Fresh fish - mango margaritas - incredible desserts! Yummy! We also had incredible whale watching right from the patios- so much activity. Again, we were delighted to be able to enjoy your place. Can't wait to book our next trip! Muchas Gracias to Lori and her team!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

this house was everything a surfer could ask for and MORE . I had fun on all the breaks up and down the beach. We did catch a nice swell while we were there, but even before the swell came in there were super fun long board waves. The beach is lovely ,the locals were welcoming, the house is insanely nice.It was seriously a week of heaven on earth. Thank you Lori for all !Give Bella a smooch and Latte tooRecommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The house architecture/design is exquisite, and there are definitely things to do even if you don't surf. The photos speak for themselves. Lush Coconut Trees jungle right up to the private beachfront. Front house wonderful ocean view/breezes from Master bedroom, kitchen and livingroom. Crashing waves and nice breeze. Full-sized fridge and stove Back house more jungle views/noises and less breeze small fridge and microwave We went as far south as Yelapa and as far north as San Pancho during our stay. 1. You should absolutely include Ocean Grill Restaurant in your visit. This restaurant is only accessible by boat. See their website online. You meet the boat at Boca de Tomatlan by calling the restaurant..have a reservation, number available on the website. Closes at 5:30 and NOT open on Tuesdays. The ceviche is excellent and so is the shrimp main course (we got a few of the sauce options on the side). Oh, and I know this sounds weird, but be sure to use the restroom; it's definitely part of the whole experience (in a good way)! After lunch, you can take a water taxi to Yelapa, which is the last town at the end of an extremely beautiful coastline. Horses or a steep hike in Yelapa apparently takes you to a waterfall, though we did not do this as it was raining. The road to Boca de Tomatlan takes you through Puerto Vallarta, including old town, which is charming and something to see. The Guadalupe church is amazing. 2. Be sure to take a cruise with Sayulita Sailing Explorations. We went to the Marietta's for the day and went swimming through a cave (do-able even by scaredy-cats) which has a gorgeous little beach on the other side. Darin and his crew are fun, relaxed and professional. You will be glad you did this. I believe he also does sunset dinner cruises and Los Arcos trips. 3. Go swimming/boogie boarding at the public beach at Nahui just down the road towards Cruz (not yet developed on our visit, but looked like they might be building something there). Lots of locals at this beach (in fact, we were the only gringos, I think). We only took our keys and towels down to the beach so we could keep our eyes on our gear.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This place is truly amazing!! I have never seen a home like it and the pictures truly can't do it justice. The main house is stunning and great for large groups. It could easily be featured in movies and would make a great place for family gatherings. My family stayed in one of the smaller bungalows (Casa Buena Suerte) which was absolutely perfect for us. We have a 9 and 11 year old who slept comfortably on the two couches. We had a small fridge and a hotplate for cooking. We spent our days out in the ocean boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We went out for dinner most nights into the town of Punta de Mita then would come home and play games. A couple of things about the owner: she has two wonderful and gentle dogs that the kids just loved on all week! Bella and Latte were a big hit and the kids are still talking about how much they miss them. She also is a wealth of information and has a booklet she made up in the cottage with restaurants, activies and lots of information about the area and the house. Last thing about the owner: she is a gracious and lovely person who made our first major family vacation one we will never forget. I highly recommend her property to anyone who wants a majical experience!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Alina. I am so happy Casa Selvatica was your choice for your "first major family vacation". I think Latte and Bella still miss you and Hunter and Morgan are not only adorable, beautiful and 'ocean naturals', but the best behaved children ever! Do return! Lori, Latte & Bella

I had such a great trip! This is a good place to unwind for families, couples, and the surfer alike. I had excellent surf out front at burrows (solid 6' !) and special love & care from Lori and the Selvetica team. The trip was unforgettable and I wouldn't stay anywhere else when I return next summer. The dynamic layout of this little gem in the jungle provides areas ideal for both privacy and community (perfect for group dinners, events, & entertaining). Close enough to anything you could need but no real need to leave. Nice kitchen facilities available for guests if you like to cook, but also a dreamy five-star (minus the price) cook staff for those that like to be pampered (the food was better than my meal at the four seasons). *SPECIAL NOTE TO THOSE WHO LIKE SURF ADVENTURE* No need to bring boards as there is a great selection at the house. Also Lori is a surfer with a wonderful spirit. She knows everyone in the local surf community and has the place wired. she set me up with a guide that took me on a truly magical 4 day surf south to some of mainland's best spots including pascuales, la ticla, and rio nexpa. Perfect.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Rob, you were the perfect guest, even bringing us reports from surf spots afar... My one concern: I hope you meant "this" summer and not the "next summer" in your comment. I thank you again for all your spirit added to Casa Selvatica and I am so pleased the surf safari down south went so well. Saludos, Lori

We've been coming to Mexico for years now & stayed in some pretty cool places, but this spot is amazing. Nestled into a well kept jungle with winding brick pathways lined with tropical flowers - it's like a wild garden, providing a shady haven when you need a break from the sun. Casa Lillia is great for one or two people, everything you need is there. Dave loved the Burros surf break right out front & I loved reclining in a chaise lounge under a palm tree catching up on my reading. The beach is great to walk & explore. Lori is so sweet & friendly, & made us feel like family. She even arranged & accompanied us on a paddle board/snorkeling tour out to the Mariettas bird sanctuary. We highly recommend this lovely piece of paradise to anyone looking for peaceful privacy, beauty, safety & great surf opportunities.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Recently finished my second stay at Casa Selvatica and I'll be back again. Doesn't matter if you're traveling solo, with your better half, couples, family or with surfing buddies, everyone's gonna be stoked. The house is super cool and the owners have your needs covered, all the necessary facilities/amenities, insights, suggestions, places to dine/go/things to see... whether it's a quiet or romantic week or fun beach trip it's all there. Pretty hard to beat this set up, it's every bit what it's made out to be. Yep, I'll be back for sure! Thanks for making your place available Lori, it's awesome being your guest!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We just had the privilege of staying in Lori's beautiful home, a beautiful four hour drive from Guadalajara. We stayed for four days in the studio Casa Lilia which was perfect for the two of us and our dog. We bought all of our groceries in the nearby Bucerias and didn't leave the compound for the next three days! The kitchenette in Casa Lilia has everything you need to make all your meals, and if something is missing, Lori will find it for you. Lori was also incredibly helpful with restaurant suggestions, local activities and fun stories. She even helped us find an excellent local vet and also took me to a fun "ropes" workout class in nearby Punta de Mita. She knows everyone in the area and everyone knows her! The house is situated perfectly on a beginner break steps from the house and a more advanced break right down the beach. And there are a variety of surfboards and paddle boards to rent if you didn't bring your own. Even if you don't surf, the house is very romantic and Lori has a huge array of other beach activities ready for you. Don't let the rainy season stop you from coming! It is the perfect time to visit Mexico because there are a lot less people, most days are still sunny and warm and the thunderstorms are breathtaking! We are renting a house up the beach for the week of Christmas, but if we knew about Casa Selvatica first, we would certainly be staying here! Thank you to Lori and Casa Selvatica for a truly amazing time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It was truly an honor to stay at Selvatica! Easy drive from Puerto Vallarta to a tropical beauty. This home is so unique, you fall in love the minute you walk through the door. The owner and her staff are not only accomodating, they are delightful. All the toys to play in the water and the home is a great place to entertain or just a quiet getaway. Casa Selvatica is charm and elegance. What are you waiting for??Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, John and Patti. It's easy to accommodate people like you - thoughtful, respectful, responsible and fun! We all felt the void when you left. Enjoy the rest of the summer and we await your return - now you are 'returnees'!! Grandes abrazos, Lori, Pilas, Samantha and Aukai

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: Our family has loved this house since it was first built in the late eighty's by friends of the family. The builder was a botanist, the architect won a prize for this her first house, and our family loved the surf in front of the house. It had had a couple of owners before we found it again in 2003 but it has been brought back to its former glory and it is loved by all who visit. It is truly a magic house in a paradise setting.
Why the Owner Chose Punta del Burro:
Because this location is beautiful, private and safe - and you can watch the surf from all the patios!
It provides an easy vacation:
you can surf, paddle board, swim, boogie board or snorkel right in front of the house;
the property is surrounded by a palm forest and bordered by river bed and therefore will stay cool in the summer;
as it sits on a hill, there is usually a breeze and thus very few mosquitos;
you can sit in the swing (with a beer or glass of wine) and watch your kids or friends surfing in front of the house;
the house has all the ocean or surf toys you will need;
and if you hire Octavio, you can never leave the property: he will shop, cook and clean up!
And Jovanna will put the house in order every morning.
It's a unique property and everyone who stays leaves looking healthy, happy and all saying the same thing: 'we will be back!'
(read the comments!)
The Unique Benefits at this House:
