Let me start by saying that we have rented a dozen or so houses using VRBO in the last decade. This is the first time that I have taken the time to write a review, and not because we haven't had great experiences in the past renting through VRBO. Quite the contrary. I am writing this review because I really feel that this house was the key to a great 10 day vacation on Kauai.. This was our first trip to any of the islands of Hawaii, and we chose April as it is still the off season, and we wanted our best chance to avoid crowds. More than anything, this house provided us the seclusion and privacy we were hoping for. It couldn't be in a better location in terms of where it is on the North Shore, and in a fantastic, low key neighborhood with beach access. A word about the beach. You are going to read about Tunnels Beach, Ke'e Beach, Anini Beach, and others. Truth be told, all are really nice spots, but popular. Really popular. With crowds. And nearly impossible parking issues between 9AM and 4PM. The beach out front avoids all of those issues, and with excellent snorkeling to boot. Even when Tunnels and Ke'e were closed due to rough conditions come afternoon, the beach out front was holding it's own. That being said, always be certain of your capabilities before going in the water. The point is, the beach is beautiful and uncrowded, and you can walk to Tunnels Beach in about a half hour. There were only two of us, so we really only used the upstairs in the house. We did take a look at the downstairs bedrooms and living quarters, and they appeared to be fine, but are isolated from the rest of the house unless you go outside and access through a separate entry. That might not be ideal for everybody, but it didn't come into play for us. Everything about the upstairs was great, especially the layout and open feel of the house. The kitchen is large, highly functional and well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, etc. The bed, linens, pillows, etc. worked great for us. We slept soundly every night, and the house stayed a perfect temperature if you kept the windows open and the ceiling fans going. A word of caution. There are chickens and roosters running wild everywhere on Kauai. Unlike the books that you read as a child that lead you to believe they start crowing at sunrise, they can start as early as 1AM. Bring earplugs. You'll need them. You'll learn to love them. All in all, a great house in a perfect location.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I were very disappointed with the house. The photos didn't accurately show the two bedrooms downstairs. The beds in all rooms were very uncomfortable, bad linens, lousy pillows. Power went out, toilet backup in downstairs bathroom. Had to do too much cleaning ourselves for the cleaning fee. Would not recommend this to anyone.Owner response: We try to remedy all problems as soon as they are brought to our attention. When we were called about the toilet, we had a maintenance man there an hour later, only to find there was nothing at all wrong with the toilet. The electric was out for a short period of time in the whole area, not just this house. Unfortunately we were not notified during their stay about them being unhappy with the beds, linens and pillows, so that we could address that issue at the time. We provide new linens and pillows several times a year, as needed. This house is booked up year round with plenty of return guests who love the house and the location.

We had a great time, found a new place to eat by the house we all liked very much and the snorkling was lot of fun. The big porch gave us time to visit and a good place to have our meals with the kids. The beds were very comfortable and the view was great. We had a very good time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Great location. Close to beaches. Quiet neighborhood--nice for strolling. House is spacious. Has everything you need. Food at the Mediterranean restaurant a short walk away was the best food we found anywhere on the north shore.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just spent our last 5 days at this lovely home and truly enjoyed ourselves. The beds were extremely comfortable, the sheets and linens were quality and there was tons of space! The windows were fabulous as the breeze did not require us to need any fans for it being too warm. The kitchen was full of every gadget for cooking too. There are two things that we didn't fully realize from the description although we simply didn't look at the photos well enough - only the bathroom has it's own ceiling (and so do the bedrooms downstairs) but in the main living area, kitchen and master bedroom, it is as if it were one big room. It worked well with our family but it did make it difficult to do anything in another area while the others were sleeping. Also, we did not realize how remote the north shore areas are - we thought the home was in Hanalei and figured it was on the Bay but I would say it is closer to Haena. That said, the location to the ocean was fabulous and we were excited to learn great snorkeling was right outside our door. The winter waves prevented us from snorkeling but it didn't prevent us from really enjoying the power and beauty of the ocean. The management staff were wonderful to work with as well. We would definitely stay again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Good location. Great snorkeling at the beach right out front. Helpful to have beach gear (chairs, snorkel equipment, etc) at the house for renter use. Property had more (general) wear and tear than pictures portray - but nothing that detracts from overall experience. House was clean and the kitchen was very well-stocked. I would recommend the property to friends and family....but not perhaps during the winter (rainy) months. Beds were very comfortable, which is much appreciated on vacation. We enjoyed the fact that the house is part of a neighborhood, rather than a contrived "resort" area. Good mix of locals and rental properties in the immediate neighborhood. VERY close to all of the most northern shore attractions (Ke'e Beach, Tunnels Beach, Na Pali coast). Highly recommend doing the Wailua River Kayak Tour with Rainbow Tours. It was a highlight for our family. Try and get Aaron as your guide, if you can.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Tropical Paradise sounds like a something overated and that you hear everywhere. However, Kaua'i and this great rental brings our expecations to reality. From the moment you drive to the house and reach the drive way you discover that you are in for a treat. The house has all the amenities you need for a great vacation from the flat screen tv, to the full equipment kitchen and wrap around lanai. The icying on the cake is the short walk to the beach where you can let your worries of the daily grind escape and sink you feet into the white sand or dive and experience nature to the fullest. This is my new spot in Kaua'i. This is a must see/stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Was the listing description accurate regarding the location? The listing photos accurately reflected the rental’s appearance and amenities. We found the property clean and well-maintained. The owner was helpful and quick in answering my inquiries. I would recommend this property to a friend or relative and will consider returning to this property. We snorkle and found the access to Tunnels more convient and easier than coming from Kappa. We also found a new snorkle area just to south at the beach access. Getting to Hanalei was much quicker than I thought it would be for the restaurants and grocery store.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This house was wonderful, everything we expected and more. the layout was fun, anything we needed was available. The house is not a new house so dont expect brand new everything but it is comfortable and well equiped. the yard us full of flowering trees and shrubs. the patio has a bbq (not gas) and plenty of eating/entertaining space. The downstairs patio is comfortable with a second hammock. The outdoor shower is hot & cold and was used everyday after the beach. The snorkeling is incredible at the beach. We swam with so many different types of fish along with turtles, and an eel. The beach is so private there were days we had it to ourselves. The coffee shop at the Colonly resort was great and we walked every morning for a cup. I cant say enough about our stay except we were sad to leave and want to go back again with family for a family reunion.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Keiki Leo is a perfect place to stay with a family with 3 youngsters. It is secluded enough to enjoy privacy, yet close enough to Hanalei and Princeville to do shopping. The house has a beautiful spacious living and dining area and the deck (lanai) around the house is awesome. The "kids" loved the hammocks (their all-time favourites) and enjoyed being so close to the beach for taking a dip and for snorkling a bit. The lanai was certainly our favourite place, as we can hardly enjoy warm evenings in Germany. The kitchen is well equipped to cook for a family of 5 and the living and dining area is spacious and very cosy. We left the upstairs to the kids and slept in the downstairs rooms, but I would actually recommend it the opposite way around, as the floors are not that well noise-insulated. As a side remark: the washing machine could need replacement: we have had a few stains of rust on the clothes we washed.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time staying at Keiki Leo. The house was comfortable and spacious, and we shared it with another family and their children. Our family had the downstairs, they had the upstairs, and we both shared the kitchen and all the fabulous deck area. It worked out really well for all of us. The house is a very short walk to several different trails down to the beach. It's easy to manage with children, even carrying snorkels, boogie boards, towels, etc., most of which is provided at the house. In addition, my husband purchased and donated a bait-casting fishing rod to the Keiki Leo stock. For those interested in fishing, he walked out to the edge of the reef and had pretty good success fishing from there with shrimp and squid pieces we got from the market in Hanalei. The house is well stocked with linens and cookware. We spent most of our at-home time hanging out on the deck enjoying the flowers, laughing at all the jungle fowl, and watching the bit of ocean we could see from there. The yard has a great variety of plants, including palms, hibiscus, plumeria and a noni tree. We think there might have even been an avocado tree there. It is a very short walk to Mediterranean Gourmet, which is a tasty restaurant that has a great authentic luau on Tuesday nights. Don't miss it! When we return to Hanalei, we will very likely re-book at Keiki Leo. Enjoy!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Kiki Leo Beachhouse very much. We were so comfortable and there was everything provided in the house to make it more like home. I was even able to iron not to mention a washer and dryer and a grill to cook out! the house is so pretty and the grounds and yard are just beatutiful. We also enjoyed the book in the house telling all about the interesting history of the home. We all hope to return someday - It was a most memorable visit and would love to stay again at Kiki Leo - very close to the beach! The location is great. Can walk to beach for swimming and snorkeling . Lighting not great for reading and the kitchen could be updated with better pots/pans, etc. Separate bedroom entrances fine for families with older children or couples.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

The directions to the house were accurate and easy to follow. The information about the house was accurate and certainly met my expectations. We were delighted with our stay at Keiki Leo. The location was ideal for us a short walk away from a very nice and uncrowded beach. Also a reasonable and enjoyable walk to Tunnels - perhaps the best snorkeling in the islands. We also drove to Kee and found that to be a very pleasant beach for lounging and snorkeling. For adventure, just a very short drive to the trailhead for Na Pali Coast hiking. I would recommend that anyone who wants to get away and prepare their own meals stay here. The nearby options for dining out are not great and Hanalei is too crowded for our taste, but one quicdk trip to the grocery in Kapaa eliminates any need to head South or East of Haena. The house is great, very spacious, but homey and teh mangement is very responsive and pleasant to deal with. I'd stay here any time I came to Kauai.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
