We arrived at Wendy's Way for a family vacation with our adult children and their partners, our 21 month old granddaughter, and her other grandparents. We were looking for a great place to spend time together and relax and this property did not disappoint. The house was spacious with a spectacular kitchen and plenty of room for us to either all be together, or do our own things. The grounds were just as beautiful as pictured. We enjoyed the pool and crabbing from the pier and the kids enjoyed staying up late and partying in the screened in porch on the pier (and we enjoyed having them out there!). There was so much dining space that we were able to do several jigsaw puzzles on the table in the porch and use the inside table for meals. It was just a short drive to the beach which we enjoyed before and during Hurricane Isaac. We also enjoyed a "sunset dolphin cruise" out of Gulf Shores. But mostly, we just relaxed. Our kids thought it was one of the best places we've stayed and we've stayed in VRBO properties all over the country. We would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is a nice, big house in a beautiful spot - on the bay and complete with oaks with Spanish moss and some resident herons. The kitchen is roomy and fully (if a bit oddly to us) equipped. There's lots of room for a group of friends or a big family gathering. Beds were comfortable. We had a few glitches, but they were addressed promptly by friendly owners. The screened porch is worth renting the place for! It is nicely furnished and includes a table for meals on the bay. We enjoyed eating and hanging out there anytime and especially in the evenings for sunsets over the bay and watching pelicans roost on nearby posts. We caught some tasty crabs off the pier. Hot tub is a nice addition. Pool is inviting and clean (but weather was a bit too cool to use it during our visit). The nearby beach ( a mile down the road) is secluded and clean, and the nature preserve has some nice trails. Gulf Shores State Park, a bit farther away, also has beautiful beaches, plus bike trails and alligators! We liked Fort Morgan and the ferry ride. There seems to be plenty to do in Gulf Shores if you want it, but we were content at the beach, state park, and house. We would go back. A couple notes: The property is mostly flat and the house is one level, but, if you have a traveler with a mobility problem, be sure to contact the owners for details about accessibility. They apparently can do some extra accommodation if you have the foresight to ask. There are some stairs to the screen porch, and the bathing facilities are not easily negotiated for those with restrictions. The master bath has a big tub with hand held shower, the main bath has a tub shower, and the primitive shower in the outbuilding has a sill. With a full house, we would have liked a second regular shower in the main house, but it was adequate. You do drive through an RV park to get to the property, but there is a wooden privacy fence on that side of the property, and it was a fine neighbor anyway.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We just returned from an incredible week spent at Wendy's Way. Within an hour of arrival, we were already planning our next trip. Everything was absolutely perfect - from the screened room over the water, to the fishing/crabbing pier, to the tree shaded pool, it could not have been better! The kitchen easily accommodated 4-5 peole cooking at once and the the screened porch was a beautiful setting for candlelit dinners with all 17 of us around the table. Thanks a million for providing the setting for such wonderful memories - we can't wait to return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children.

Just spent sunny week at Wendy's way for a much needed getaway. It was great- just what the doctor ordered. We enjoyed the privacy, the absolutely beautiful, well cared for home, the heated pool and the pier. I've stayed in some very nice vacation homes, but never one as nice as Wendy's Way. Thank you for sharing your incredible home with us! We'll be back! We just booked Wendy's Way AGAIN, and thought I'd take time to share info on this incredible property. My family and I will be enjoying our 3rd summer vacation at Wendy's Way this year and can't wait! What we love- the house, so open and warm, with glass everywhere you feel like you're outside, the kitchen, WOW, what a kitchen, it's completely open and huge with countertops everywhere. We had 10 of us cooking at the same time and could have had many more with plenty of room for all. The outdoors, the pool is a full size pool with a deep and shallow end and a diving board. The best part is floating around it and enjoying great views of the bay from my raft while sipping on a summer cocktail, of course. The yards are beautiful with lots of lush landscaping, and moss covered oak trees. There's a tall privacy fence around the property so we felt completely alone. Never felt the need to draw the curtains in the house either. The kids love the big yards and enjoyed frisbee and football, when they weren't jumping in the pool or running down the pier to check the crab traps. The teenagers enjoyed hanging out on the screened in porch over the bay. But late in the afternoon, we all enjoy the porch and pier to watch the sunsets. Don't miss them! They just may be the best part of the trip! We only hit the beach once last year. Why bother? We had all the luxury and privacy we wanted plus we had our own pool and bay to enjoy. But for those who do want to enjoy the sand, there is a very nice public gulf beach about a mile from the house. Thanks Joe and Wendy! We really appreciate you sharing your fabulous home with us! Can't wait till next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I was fortunate enough to make several trips to Northern Italy and spend time in places and with Italians in their home and mountainside towns where tourists seldom if ever wander. Walking into WW carries me back there, the comfort and feeling of being at home, a relaxed ambience…it is weird the way the lighting reflects on the furnishings it is like the glow of sunset at all areas inside. Everything is so well placed and comfortable, tasteful and appealing to the eye; and believe me the wife and eye have taken great joy in slowly taking in the smallest details. I suppose the final take away on WW is: “like to live there?” absolutely. Wouldn’t change a thingRecommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is the most beautiful home I have ever had the pleasure to stay in! It is so peaceful and quiet, and the Bay is really calm and peaceful. The dockhouse and pier offer the most amazing sunsets! And talk about the kitchen! Fully Stocked is what they advertise, but this truly is like cooking in an Italian Villa! The helpful and friendly staff gave us 'insider tips' on all the great places to go, and even came out to the house to show us how to catch crabs!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Hi Michelle! We had such fun teaching you and your young ones how to catch crabs!! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in both 2010 and 2011, and hope to see you again in 2012!!

What a terrible, terrible experience! I must have missed it somewhere through the reservation process that we had to drive through a trailer park to get to this house. Only a 8 foot privacy fence separates the property from the trailer park. Shame on me for not asking questions. We arrive at the home, still in shock from having to drive through a trailer park, finding what appeared to be a bon fire greeting us in the front yard. At closer glance, it looked to be trash bags full of trash from the previous renter, or maybe even some of the trailer park squatters, being disposed of properly. Smoke was billowing into the house and took several days for the smell to reduce to a manageable level. Disappointed, once again, that the bon fire was not for roasting hot dogs, we entered the home to find dust on nearly everything. We did what we could do to wipe things down to make us feel the home was clean. Door handles fell off at first touch, remote controls for the television did not work, the shower was full of some sort of insect that resembled a miniature flies, and there appeared to be things lurking in the beds since by the end of the week several members of the group started breaking out with bite wounds. Much time was spent outside in the screened porch overlooking the bay to get out of the house so in a way we can tell people we roughed it all week by camping outside. The swimming pool, we were told, was heated but not one of the kids would swim because it was too cold. Apparently it was set at 75 degrees, but felt cold enough to ice down some adult beverages that were needed to keep us going through the week. We did survive the week, only to find out that out deposit was not being returned due to 'damages' caused. The place was left in better shape than it was when we arrived. Nevertheless, my father in law called the owner to discuss the situation and was told that there was nothing to discuss the the credit card had already been charged. The owner eventually hung up on my father in law, which in itself is astonishing. From the location, the condition of the property, the liability issues, as well as the 'professional' attitude of the owner, I would never recommend this property to my worst enemy. God bless your soul if you take the risk of staying at this place.Owner response: We found your response curious because we never heard a word or comment from you during the time your party stayed at Wendy's Way. You decided to write a hateful and flat out wrong review after being charged a damage fee. To review, your party was charged to replace every remote on the property because the batteries were stolen and then someone poured molten wax into every empty battery slot. A doorknob was hammered from a entry door, apparently by someone that had consumed too much of an "adult beverage" left in the pool. You also were charged an extra cleaning fee because of the empty "adult beverage" cans, bottles and personal garbage strewn inside and outside the home and for linens that were destroyed. There were other issues such as a ripped screen and busted screen door on the screened room at the pier. Additionally, someone did set an outdoor fire between the time of your check in and check out and that fire eventually did kill a young tree on the side of the property. You were never charged for that transgression. We understand the speed in which good reviews travel and also understand that bad reviews travel infinitely faster. We also understand and correct issues when we are wrong or lazy. But this isn't one of those cases. Your party came, partied and left the mess for us to clean up and fix. Then you tried to blame us when we charge you for that extra service. If you had called or contacted us once during your stay, we would have been there in a matter of minutes to correct any issue. We strongly suspect that the reason you never called was because you knew that when we saw the mess your party was creating, we would have evicted you on the spot. Joe

Why the Owner Chose Homes, Single Family:
We fell in love with Fort Morgan. Its seems like the last place left where condo development has not been allowed to take over. Driving down Fort Morgan, you get to experience lagoons and the Gulf of Mexico on the south side, and beautiful Mobile Bay on the Right. Some of the bay front homes have been owned by the same family for generations and the families have been able to retain their very large and private lots. We bought Wendy's Way 10 years ago. It was a simple fishing cottage on the most gorgeous lot, filled with 200 year old oak trees, coastal grasses and of course the bay.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Favorites while staying at Wendy's Way. Catching crabs and making my famous crab cakes. Playing cards with family on bay porch. Curling up on chaise lounger or hammock with good book and observing shrimp boats or large vessels in the distance. Watching the pelicans just 100 feet away who enjoy this place as much as I. The sunsets, the sunsets, the sunset. Diving into the swimming pool on a warm summer day. Walking the grounds to enjoy the vegetation and our magnificent trees! Cooking INCREDIBLE meals with our very large family in our VERY LARGE Mediterranean style kitchen. Curling up in front of our magnificent wood burning fireplace on a cool day. It has the best draw of any fireplace I've used and starting a fire is never a problem. Curling up in the comfy king bed in the master bedroom, trying to select which book to read next from the built in bookcases or staring out the 6 windows to the water beyond. Soaking in the HUGE garden tub in the master bath.
