Our 2,200+ square foot chalet style home is nestled in the woods on Lake Hiwassee. It is in the gated community of Bear Paw which is close to Hiwassee Dam, west of Murphy. Lake Hiwassee is an 18 mile long stretch of water with 168 miles of natural shoreline in the Natahala National Forest. The few homes visible on the lake are only a small part of the beauty of the serene combination of water, forest, and mountains you see out on the water. It is where the Blue Ridge Mountains meet the Smokies, nicknamed "God’s Country".
The home is very well kept, spacious and tastefully decorated with bear accessories. The living/great room on the entry level has a stone fireplace with gas logs and a tongue groove pine cathedral ceiling which is open to the loft ceiling. There is a 25" TV,with a DVD/VCR. On this level is also a kitchen and dining area, two bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen) and a full bath. The living/great room opens to a 12' x 26' deck with table, chairs, rocking chairs and a gas grill. The loft upstairs is open to the great room below. There are 2 twin beds, a futon sofa, TV, and DVD, and a desk in this 13’ x 26’ room and another full bath. A sliding glass door opens to a small covered porch sitting area. Our newest completed lowest level consists of a 4th bedroom (king), a full bath, and a second great room with gas log fireplace, television, DVD/VCR, and a finished laundry room. A second deck has been added to the lower level also with a porch swing and another tables and chairs. Whether rocking on the deck or sitting/fishing on the dock listening to birds and sounds of nature, it is a very peaceful place to stay.
Bear Paw is a secluded and private area, but has many amenities which make it a great vacation spot. Boating, fishing, swimming, and water-skiing are possible. The lake is large enough that it is never crowded. There are 2 marinas near to rent boats if you don’t have one, and 2 launch ramps if you do. Bear Paw also offers other activities other than the lake.
There is an Olympic size swimming pool with chaise lounges, basketball hoops in the Pavilion/Club House, tennis court, exercise room, children’s playground, a small fishing pond and a security guard at the entrance gate 24 hours a day.
Nearby is the dam with picnicking and grills, tours of the dam are possible, and a drive through the area brings activities as white-water rafting, golfing, horseback riding, or sightseeing from nearby Ocoee, Chattanooga, Helen, or up to the Asheville area.

Off Season ......... $2800/month + 3% tax (2 night min)
$200 security deposit required (refundable).

We met in high school and recently celebrated our 40th anniversary. We have three children.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Hiwassee
We vacationed around the area in 1996 and 1997. Dick wanted to buy property, build a house and he found Bear Paw. We live in Florida, so took a chance and it has really been a blessing. We love the area, the beauty of the mountains, the lake, the peace, the serenity, and relaxation that comes from being there. We are happy to be able to provide a place for people to vacation and enjoy what we experience in Bear Paw.
