Get away from the hustle and bustle to a secluded family home nestled in the woods, down a magnificent dead-end dirt road with distant views to Stratton and Magic Mountains and sited overlooking a small woodland pond. Cross-country ski trails galore surround the house, with a cow barn up the road. Tennis courts on another pond, a sugar house nearby, and an easy walk to another larger pond for skating , fishing or swimming. "The Abbey" is perched on a small hill, great for apres-ski sledding and skating.
"The Abbey" is unique. Historic stained glass windows companioned with large glass windows filter color and sunlight into each room. The Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen are in a continuous, fluid space with an antique trestle table for dining and another for a buffet. Funky Victorian bureaus and beds decorate three bedrooms with a king, queen and full bed. The queen and double bedrooms are on the main floor. A Loft bunkroom above the Kitchen/Dining Room sleeps five and is conducive to late night talking and giggling among kids of all ages. Another room with a twin bed is in a tower space and one set of bunkbeds in the mudroom offers cozy accommodations for kids.
The Tower Room above the Entry also serves as the music center and small library. The Living Room with cathedral ceiling and window seats is spacious and cozy, great for Charades, reading, board games, puzzles and socializing. The Mud/Bootroom/Bunk Room is entered at ground level and also serves as a Playroom for the more rambunctious. The king Bedroom with its own bathroom is on this level with views into the woods. The laundry area is off the Mudroom.
The caretaker lives next door. The Three Clock Inn with terrific restaurant and a wonderful gourmet shop, The Village Pantry, are down the road.
