Our family stayed in this terrific condo for just over a week (12/31/10-1/8/11). I would highly recommend this place as it is beautiful, spacious, well kept, and the owner is communicates very quickly via email. I sent the query for availability on Christmas and Dave responded within a few hours! We live only 30 minutes away but wanted to try out living in Solana Beach to see if we want to move here. We used the condo as a "test home" and everything worked out great. The beds and sofas are very comfortable, the kitchen is a very nice size, and we loved the dining area overlooking the living room. Beach access is down about 100 stairs to a lovely beach. The kids' rooms had the view out to the ocean and race track, master has mini balcony overlooking the inside of the complex. It was nice to have parking in a carport right below the condo. There are about 5 steps up to the entry door, a couple of steps into the living room, about 5 more to the kitchen/dining area, then a flight of stairs up to the bedrooms, so keep that in mind if you are concerned about stairs. We had our extended family visit us for dinner, I hung out during the day while the kids were at school, we enjoyed time on the patio, tried out some local restaurants. Very pleasant. The wireless connection was easy to use as the password was readily available. Everything was super clean and in very good repair, and there were plenty of nice sized towels for everyone. This was our first VRBO experience and it all went so smoothly. We sent the check, Dave emailed access instructions, and our security deposit was promptly returned after the stay. All the keys were well-marked so we knew what we had, and we just thoroughly felt relaxed and "at home" there. Thanks, Dave!

We did a short 1 week get away to Solana Beach and rented this property. The condo was nicely laid out and there was lots of room for all of us. We had no problems accessing the amenities of Del Mar Beach Club and were steps away from the ocean. We really enjoyed the location of this property as it was out of the core of San Diego, which we were looking for, but a short drive to all the major attactions. The owners were prompt in responding to any questions and were helpful in making our experience a good one. We would definitely recommend it to others.

My husband and I and three kids, ages 4, 6 and 9 rented this condo for a week in December 2010. It was fantastic! Very clean, and plenty of room. My mom and step-dad came and joined us as well. The kids all slept in one room and my mom and Ron in the master bedroom and hubby and I had the bedroom with a view of the ocean. Waking up to that view was amazing! The owners of this condo are honest, reliable and kind. I know it's scary to rent something sight unseen but this is a good one and I recommend them.

Our family of three stayed here in mid-October. The owner was quick to respond and answered all emails promptly. Our stay was arranged on short notice and all instructions on how to access and leave the property were clear and easy to understand. This place is great! It is clean, spacious, and comfortable-a home away from home.Towels are provided, as well as the "little things" such as hand soap, TP, salt/pepper-even board games. As stated in other reviews, the kitchen is well stocked with most everything you might need. Especially convenient are the full-size washer and dryer to clean your clothes after those days on the beach. Speaking of the beach, it is nice. It was never crowded, and has easy access down a flight of stairs through a gate. We especially liked fishing for surf perch in the mornings and watching the surfers. Toys are also provided for those with small children. The beds, furnishings and interior are nice-makes you want to lounge around rather than leaving to get all your touristy type of activities done. If I stay again, that's exactly what I would do! Right down the street are a grocery store as well as some restaurants and fast food for convenience. The condo is centrally located and has easy freeway access for those who may want to do Legoland/Zoo/Wild animal Park, etc. Thanks so much Dave for arranging our stay! We hope to stay at your condo again in the future!

We spent a fantastic week in September 2010 at this condo. It was everything advertised and more, and our family of seven fit very comfortably. It was clean, well furnished, and had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. The beautiful kitchen was up to date and well stocked with anything needed. Beds were comfy and the bathrooms were plenty spacious and luxurious. The wide variety of beach toys and towels were especially helpful and convenient. The location was great for hitting all the tourist attractions and the private beach was only a 3 minute walk away and never crowded. We loved waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach. The owners were great at answering questions and making accommodations throughout the entire rental process and stay. We enjoyed the pools and jacuzzi and other amenities offered at Del Mar Beach Club. The quiet serenity of the surroundings was a definite plus. We had a phenomenal week and would love to return in the future. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a great vacation spot at a very reasonable rate. Well worth the money!

My family of 7, 5 adults and boys 6 & 8, spent 7 wonderful days at this condo from July 10-17. We found it very clean and spacious, with everything supplied that we needed. The ocean sounds and view from the patio and 2 upstairs bedrooms was the best. There were enough comfortable beds to suit everyone as well as 3 TV's. Since we traveled by air, the storage closet full of beach necessities was our greatest treasure. The bogey boards, chairs, umbrella, wet suits, shovels and pails were utilized daily. The proximity of the uncrowded beach was a real asset and the heated pool and hot tub were equally enjoyed. We also liked using the gas BBQ near the pool. This condo was centrally located for all of our excursions which included Anaheim, Lego land, San Diego Bay fishing, Midway carrier and Zoo, and Carlsbad Outlet Mall and it was close to 2 large grocery stores. The landscaping and flowers around the club were beautiful and an extra treat. I would highly recommend.

We just returned from a week's stay at this unit. The place is remarkably clean, spacious, and comfy. The large screen TV in the living room was perfect for watching early morning World Cup soccer or Wii for the whole family (Wii wasn't provided - we brought our own). The kitchen had everything you would need, including coffee maker, toaster, baking sheets, wine glasses, etc. There was plenty of clean linens as well. The location is perfect - near lots of restaurants and supermarkets. We enjoyed the pool as well as the exercise room. Would highly recommend. Also conveniently located between Legoland and San Diego Zoo and Coronado. Dave was very quick to respond to e-mails.
Owner response:We appreciate very much the Kim's positive review. They were wonderful guests - easy to work with, honest, communicative and positive - the kind every owner hopes to have. We love to have guests from Northern California, where we lived ourselves for five years. We hope to have them back again as soon as possible!

My family recently spent five days at this condo and had a great time. It was perfectly located and reasonably priced. The unit was clean and the appliances worked well. We went to Legoland and Seaworld and had a very enjoyable experience. My kids are 8 and 10. The beach did not look like it had been groomed in a while but was pretty isolated and certainly not crowded. The kids enjoyed the pools in the complex. One of them is heated so they were able to swim even in to the evening.

The bones in this condo are nice, and the kitchen is one of the better ones you'll find. The in-unit washer dryer is also a great convenience. However, the beds are sagging and there's not much furniture in the condo. No coffee table in the family room, no end tables in the family room OR the master bedroom. If you're expecting to sleep in late, think again. The drapes/blinds in all rooms aren't wide enough, leaving gaps that let in the early morning sunlight. Ditto on the shower curtains which isn't really a huge issue but you may find water on the floor after taking a shower. Finally, the fireplace was not in operation but was shown in the photos. We also had problems with the TV (e.g. - it didn't work) in the family room which were not addressed during our week long stay. The beach access in this community is down a huge flight of stairs. It's not exactly easy and the beach there is just okay. You'll find yourself going down the street (less than 5 minutes) to Del Mar Beach instead. The location is good and lets you get to Lego Land, Del Mar and La Jolla with relative ease, it's a good mid-point for those with kids aged 4-9. Overall, not worth the money and you can find better units for a better price if you look around.
Owner response:Nothing is more important to us than our guests' experience. We appreciate the feedback, and feel badly that this guest felt he did not have an optimal experience. We try to always address issues that arise as quickly as we can. Since this guest's feedback we've done the following: 1. Replaced the prior flat-screen TV with a new LCD TV 2. Replaced both the King and Queen mattresses and box springs 3. Replaced the prior kitchen table and chairs with a better, more family-friendly table and chairs 4. Replaced the drapes in both the Master and Queen bedrooms, to provide better darkness for those of our guests that prefer it 5. Added nightstands and a dresser in the master bedroom, as well as tables in the other bedrooms 6. Replaced the ocean-facing doors and windows in the condo, to enhance our guests' enjoyment of the ocean view. We’re very happy with the results of this upgrade and hope you will be as well, as was one of our guests that stayed recently: "The sliding glass doors downstairs are fabulous!! Very quiet and smooth…and that breeze along with that vacant lot overlooking the ocean is amazing…a perfect spot to enjoy my coffee in the early morning. The new television in the family room was a treat as well…great picture!" We hope you will do comparison shopping before choosing to rent our unit. We, too, look at prices of other units and are always working hard to create a wonderful – and value-driven – vacation experience for all of our guests.

We stayed for a week and loved it! Beautifully remodeled, meticulously kept, and centrally located for anyone planning to go to Legoland, SD Zoo, and the Wild Animal Park. The kids had a blast -- we used the pool, walked down to the beach. There's a view of an open field (where our kids looked for bunnies every morning) and, to the right, the ocean. Plus, there's everything you might possibly need, from beach towels to a fully equipped kitchen, appliances, and a bbq. Would stay there again!

The pictures don't justify how home like the condo is. It is a very clean, warm and functioning home away from home. We will definately be back.

We spent a week at the Ashton Beach Condo with our 4 kids and had a great time. The condo had everything we needed to keep us all happy. It is located in a perfect spot in order to see all of the sites that San Diego has to offer and of course, we loved being so close to the beach! We hope to visit again soon.
