Manoir du Chevalier is a wonderful historic house in Basque Country close to the Spanish border allowing the best of French and Spanish culture and cuisine. With views over rolling hills, it is well-placed for golf, hiking, and all kinds of water sports. The fishing port of St. Jean de Luz has a lively life as well as beautiful beaches.
Come to the heart of Basque France, minutes from beautiful, sophisticated Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz, the Atlantic coast, beautiful beaches, many golf courses and famous mountains for hiking. If there were ever an ideal house for a summer holiday, this is it. This large, historic six bedroom stone Villa, with a separate three bedroom Guest House, sleeps 9 to 14 Guests. It is set in a fabulous green park, with plenty of privacy, breath-taking but comfortable living rooms and bedrooms, lovely and authentic furnishings offering a 5 star vacation for family or friends. Holiday amidst a spectacular green countryside, a few minutes from the sea, with easy access to mountains, golf, tennis, boating and equitation.
The fine stone facade has two entrances into the house, one of which is a large arched doorway into an enormous reception room redolent of the 16th century, with stone floors, beamed ceiling and immense fireplace; adjacent to that room is another large reception room. Up a wonderful old winding stone staircase one finds a huge beamed dining room, another large reception/library, a large kitchen with a breakfast table in it and a couple of pantries. A bedroom wing contains 3 double rooms, 3 single rooms, and 3 bathrooms and two additional independent toilet rooms, sleeping 9 people. 2 hours of maid service per day is included in the price. For more than 9 people, one can also rent the garden house, a self-contained house with three bedrooms, one bathroom, a charming sitting room and a kitchen. It is available only to those who rent the main house, and can raise the overall capacity to 14 people.
With the cultural diversity of France and Spain on offer, you can enjoy your Gazpacho and your Bouillabaisse, too! Built in 1575 by a Bishop as his summer residence, this is a house that continues to captivate. Set on a hillside with panoramic views, 7 km from world-known St. Jean de Luz, once a fishing village and now a summer gathering spot for the under-stated, sophisticated and the sporty. It is famous not only for its beautiful beaches and its many golf courses and also for its hiking. The pretty medieval streets are now filled with elegant shops, restaurants and cafes. Enjoy the fresh seafood and the excellent produce from local markets. It's a 15 minute stroll to a charming and historic village, with shops and restaurants. There are 3 golf courses within 10 minutes and 10 within a half hour or so. The base of Mt. La Rhune, with its train to the top, is 5 minutes away. The Spanish border is 20 minutes away.
This is of course Basque country, yet another culture to explore in addition to French and Spanish. There is no shortage of museums, chateaux, historic sites and restaurants in the area. There is wonderful walking and hiking in the immediate area and in the very close foothills of the Pyrenees. There are caves, nature parks and animal parks, boat trips along the coast, casinos, horse shows and cross country horse riding, spectacles with bulls, canoeing and kayaking in the river or the sea, rafting, surfing, sailing, miniature golf, a train ride up a mountain, hang-gliding, an acrobatic trail through a forest, underwater diving along the coast, to name just a few. It's a golfer's delight, with three courses within 10 minutes, and another 7 available in the region. For the less active there are spas, art galleries and great shopping.
Biarritz and Bayonne are some 25km away. RyanAir flies to Bayonne and many airlines fly to Biarritz. The Spanish border is a few minutes, and the intriguing Spanish port city of San Sebastian is only about 30km away. Bilbao, with its remarkable Guggenheim Museum is an hour and a half. Add a wonderful climate, and the result is clear - this is an extraordinary opportunity for a great vacation.

From 1 June - 15 September, The cottage, 'Le Jardinière' is is only available to rent in conjunction with the Manor House. From 15 September until 31 May, it may be rented separately. A 50% deposit is required to confirm all bookings. Balance is payable in cash on arrival. End clean charge of €75 will be added to the rental of the CottageThe cancellation of a confirmed booking entails the forfeiting of all payments made. However, every effort will be made to find a replacement tenant, in which case the client will be reimbursed pro-rata, minus a 25% service charge. If the client abandons the property, he loses all rights to any eventual refund or rebate.Special arrangements made for last minute bookings.
