wonderful villa tazmin
wonderful villa tazmin
Martyns beautiful villa is everything you could desire for a relaxing holiday and I thoroughly agree with previous reviewers regarding cleanliness, facilities, the lovely Said! We all really enjoyed our stay meeting lovely, friendly people, dogs, donkeys... and quickly mastered the walk up and down the piste and the magical experience of the 4dh bus ride into essauoira. The swimming pool at Les Deux Monde was just what we needed along with a refreshing beer. The KM8 restaurant is a superb little oasis. The bus ride to Sidi Kaouki, at 3.5dh, another amazing experience. Only regret - that we didn't spend the two weeks at Villa Tazmin. Thanks again Martyn and Said for your lovely villa...we are returning in April to chill out and do all the things we didn't get round to doing the first time!

Owner response: thank you for your valued comments, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year, Said & Martyn
Villa Tazmin is everything this listing and it's positive reviews describe it as and more. My fiance and I visited Essaouira for two weeks and had an amazing stay at Martyn's Villa. This Roman/Ottoman style house is located in the Berber village of Ghazoua, about a 10 minute drive from the Medina of Essaouira. The country road to the villa is a little intimidating at first, it's a dirt and rock road and our little Cleo rental car did not handle it well. However, after the first day, we grew to love the area. The neighbors were warm, friendly and very welcoming. The local shops in the area were very understanding of my limited vocabulary in French and Arabic and my trips to the store became language lessons. The local community is very tourist friendly and felt very safe. The villa has a central room that connects the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and the living room. All the rooms have plenty of space, there is a decent size closet in the main bedroom and a walk in closet in the second bedroom (which became our treasure room as we began to obtained souvenirs). The rooftop terrace/garden is huge. Surrounded by 7-8 ft walls that provides plenty of privacy, it's perfect for relaxing and eating during the day and star gazing at night. The Villa was tastefully decorated and had everything that was listed on the website, modern appliances, flat screen lcd tv, stereo, stove with an oven, fridge etc. Everything was clean and in working order when we arrived. The house manager was knowledgeable, gracious and very accommodating. He provided us with maps, information on the Medina, as well as the local areas. He answered all our calls and questions, couldn't have asked for a better point of contact. All in all, Villa Tazmin was the perfect rental property for our vacation. The location was amazing, safe and convenient. 10 minutes from the Medina, 30 minutes from Sidi Kaouki (a prime surfing beach), and a few hours from Marrakech and Agadir, Villa Tazmin provided the perfect location for all our vacation expeditions. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Martyn and the house manager met and exceeded all our expectations and Villa Tazmin truly felt like a home away from home. Thank you, Martyn, for sharing your house with us!

Memorable week in Ghazoua
Memorable week in Ghazoua
The Villa is all the photos tell you it will be and more. Transfers to and from airport were arranged to perfection and we stopped off at the hypermarket to collect essentials and on the way back stopped for coffee. We were greeted upon arrival by Said with a mint tea ceremony and delicious Moroccan pastries, he then gave us a guided tour of the villa and sat down and went through a map of Essaouira pointing out place and restaurants we might want to visit, he also gave us tips on taxis and haggling which proved invaluable. He was always on the end of the house phone if needed to assist in booking restaurants, outings and taxis. The new glass roof over the salon gave us protection from the storm(the first rain for two months-much needed by all, which gave us an opportunity to revel in the sanctuary of Villa Tazmin) and helps to cut down on the early morning waking of village life. Highly recommend Ecotourism walks booked through Decouverte restaurant, including discussions on Wales v France re six nations!!! The 7km guided walk from Sidi Kaouiki through the dunes to the waterfalls and up to the Berber family for tea and bread was extraordinary and shows the real Moroccan landscape at its very best. So many restaurants, so little time! Locals very friendly, always willing to help and recommend places to visit. Spent ages in Chez Makki spice emporium, discussing herbs, spices and cooking Tagines over a cup of ten spice tea. Buying local crafts and jewellery in the workshops is recommended, so knowledgable and helpful, sharing their enthusiasm for the history and making! Not enough room in cases to bring back all we would have liked! A memorable week in so many ways. Thanks to all.

A lovely stay
A lovely stay
We enjoyed our stay in Villa Tazmin. It is a large and clean villa and well equiped. Our 1 year old daughter loved to play with the neighbours kids, who showed her the sheep, ducks and donkeys. Essaouria is abput a 15 minute drive and also a lovely place to spend some time in. However, we especially loved Sidi Kaouki beach, with its horses, camels and very relaxed locals. Its has a bit of a hippy feeling and even after a few days, we had the feeling we knew all the locals and vice versa. We can recommend to stay in Villa Tazmin!

Your beautiful house
We are very satisfied with our four week stay in your beautiful house, with our small dog. Everything was great, no problems, and the neighbours were very nice. Taibi is very pleasant, and quickly realised that we are very independant, but he was there if we needed him. We shall be back next year. Dominique France.

Wonderful 11 Days
Wonderful 11 Days
We arrived in Vila Tazmin on the 16 of March 2013 in the evening. It was already night, and we were very pleased and even more pleased on the next day, after having a wonderful and restful night on the compfortable bed. The light in morocco is really very special, the combination of the colors in the house, the light and the sun makes the latest look like a jewl in the middle of nowhere. The house is in the middle of a moroccan village, abt 10-15 mins drive to the center of a essaouira. Everything you need is in the shops in the village, you won’t even need to drive to the city. Just take your time and discover the area. We wandered in the village around and found the place really very nice and realxing. The house is big enough for 4 persons. The terrace is huge and very nice. If you love watching stars night, you will love it. The kitchen is well equiped and if you have wishes just don’t hesitate to ask Martyn, he will do his best to fulfil it. We needed a baby bed for our daughter, Martyn did not hesitate long and offered us one (he bought one and now the house has a baby bed). In Martyn you will find both the hospitality of the morrocans and the warmth and kindness of the people from Wales. Thank you Martyn. We and our daughter enjoyed our stay very much. For our daughter -and certainly for all parents with kids- the place was PERFECT. The neighbours are very kind & keep a whole bunch of animals (cows, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs...). Our daughter had a lot to discover and to experience touching and playing with the animals around (forget the zoos in your homeland ;) ). The kids of the neighbours were also very kind and helpful (take some books with fotos, the kids love them). We even asked the kind lady from the house on the right, if she would prepare us some precious „Argan oil“ and she agreed. She pressed the Argan almonds herself per hand and we got our liter Argan oil. A bit expensive than the prices in the city, but I am sure and happy about what I got (read more in the guest house ;)). Said the house manager was also very helpful and called us every second day to ask if everything is ok. He speaks perfekt french and englisch. He gave us some great tipps about the city and they all were really worth it. And when we needed some infos, he always was quick and offered us help. We really had a nice time in Villa Tazmin, and we recommand the place to everyone. We will certainly come back, but next time certainly for more than 11 Days.

Owner response: Thank you very much for your review, and your concerns regarding condensation during your visit, due to the unusually chilly nights. The additional portable gas heater in addition to the open log fire should be used with adequate ventilation, and I have asked my house manager, and our builder to investigate, with the possibility of air vents in the walls.Warmest regards, Said & Martyn.

Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Friendly, professional, mature guy, well travelled, love food, wine, animal charities, and life!
Why the Owner Chose Essaouira:
For many years we wanted to tour Morocco, but the price of flights and accommodation proved to be over our budget. Then the King of Morocco opened up the 'sky' to cheap flight operators, and Travelrepublic offered accommodation deals. In September 2006 we embarked on a three week tour of Morocco, and the thought of a holiday home abroad had been on our minds for many years. During our visit to Morocco, viewing many properties for sale,we spent a wonderful week in Essaouira. Living in coastal Wales, enjoying friendly country life,we wanted a home 'far from the maddening crowd' Our brief to our friend and agent was to find us a traditional, country house, in the Berber village of Ghazoua. Without viewing the property , we purchased the house, expecting a few rentals per year. Our home is your home, and our friends are your friends, enjoy.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
For a taste of the 'real Morocco' this is good as it gets. Wonderful country village location, neighbours, environment, and much more.
