Iv'e just spent some delightful days in a cabin in the woods that was just as it should be. It was charming. clean. filled with vintage cabin in the woods decor. This serene experience much needed from my daily life offered a lake to walk to that was peaceful and beautiful.. hardly a car on the road. The owner was very warm(and funny) on the phone (we never met) but it was as if we had... for she helped out with all my concerns and directed me to things to do in the community. I felt she was there if needed. I will certainly return.

This cabin rental was a unique experience so close to the city. I loved the area. There is so much to do and so many places to go if you want to. Great restaurants on nearby White Lake were fabulous. Loved The Museum at Bethel Woods. We had great weather which helped enjoying Lake Superior Park but it was also great to sit with a book in the yard, it is truly a cabin in the woods, hard to find so close to the city. It was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We loved it and will definitely go back.

Just got back from the cozy cabin and it was just that. A weekend there was like a week's vacation . The cabin in clean and comfortable and well equipped, TV in both rooms on cable. Went kyaking on Lake Superior and it was like being in another world. Loved the hammock, we will definitely be back. Just 2 hrs from NYC, this was a great escape.

We just spent the Labor Day weekend at the cabin. It is art least our 4th trip there, we come back year after year because it is so great. It's cozy and clean and near so many great places to go swimming even though we mostly sit in the yard and read or swing in the hammock, It's a good place to do nothing. The owner is at this point a good friend. We can always trust the cabin to be ready when we walk in, it is good to know in advance that we will enjoy our stay, that means a lot, we know we will enjoy a relaxing stay.

My wife and I loved this cabin. It was comfortable, clean and in such a great area. We loved kyaking on Lake Superior. It's like the Adirondacks. We wanted to spend another day but were told there was another rental coming in. We will definitely be back. This place is a real find, only 2 hours from the city, we will be back! Kevin

My wife and I rented the cabin for a week and left after 2 nights. We probably would have left sooner had we not had a family committment in the area. We should have listened to the other 1 star reviewer and it was my fault for not doing due diligence. The cabin is certainly very "rustic" and I did not find that charming. The cabin and furnishings are all very old. It has a musty odor. While the floor and counters and other surfaces were clean, when one looked at the shutters, windows, and fixtures there was alot of old dust and dirt. The shower is unsightly and is so small that you cannot avoiding rubbing up against the walls. We were not comfortable sleeping there nor could we get ourselves to eat a meal there. I could find no smoke detector in the cabin. I did request a partial refund from the owner but was advised it was possible only if someone else rented the balance of the week.

Owner response: All rental agreements are final. This couple knew the first day of their rental that this cabin was not to their taste. Had they called me on Monday and not e mailed me Wednesday night when they were already home in Maryland, I would probably have been able to get another rental in to replace them. They left without letting me know and wanted a refund on their balance. Had I been able to re-rent it, I would have been happy to do so. The photos clearly show the cabin, some of the furniture is old, but most weekend houses are filled with yard sales. These people should have stayed at a Best Western. I leave notes for the spiders all the time, but they keep coming back in and creating a mess on the windowsills. This is not everyone's cup of tea. Read other reviews and see most folks love it!

Loretta, you are a wonderful person to talk with! I went up to the cabin for the weekend, and everything was already prepared for me and my guest. Water and heat were ready to go and the listing was very accurate with the details of the house. The area is great, very beautiful in the winter. A picturesque winter wonderland. Its a short drive anywhere you need to go, and the house's location is perfect for some relaxing privacy. I will definitely be back. in the summer!

We've now returned three times to this pretty little spot, and we find it perfect for a low-key and relaxing weekend. This quiet, simply but comfortably outfitted cabin seems to drain all the tension of city living from us as soon as we arrive, and we've always found the owner to be very friendly, accessible, and flexible. For us the real draw of this place is the two kayaks that come with your rental and gorgeous Lake Toronto just 1/4 mile away. Although we've never figured out how to get the kayaks on top of the car, the boat launch is so close and the road so deserted that we generally load one halfway in the trunk, drive down with the trunk open, drop off one boat and one person, and return to get the other boat. The whole operation take about 7 minutes, and then there's hours of blissful kayaking! Although the surrounding towns are quiet, White Lake and Kiamesha have excellent restaurants, especially The Front Porch, which is a very short drive from the house. We'll definitely be back again!

Living in the city and having grown up in the country, I need to escape the noise and the crowds from time to time. This was my third visit to the cabin, I've been there in Summer and Fall and it's always the relaxing comfortable escape I need. It's always neat and clean and furnished like some ones home! I look forward to returning again and again. The cabin has everything you need; just bring your own food and a good book! Quiet nights and you can literally count the number of cars that pass...amazing. And only 2 hours from NYC. I used to have to go 3 hours to get this kind of quiet, it's a real find!

. . . but then it wouldn't be as fun. How wonderful to get out of the City for a few days - such an easy drive, and welcoming atmosphere to land in. This is the third time my husband and I have rented here. It's always like going home at the end of a long hard week - home to the country that is. We love our long walks in the woods - no sirens here - have picnics by the Lake and watch the sun set, hearing only the wind rustle through the trees and birds (not pigeons) call to one another. Naps in the hammock and great nights sleeping in a comfy bed - I feel like a human being again. The owner is a sweetheart, quick with recommendations for dinners out (check out the Eldred Preserve when your there), and always leaving the place clean and ready for our arrival. We highly recommend it!

                  Why the Owner Chose Monticello:
The house is only 2 hours from Manhattan, 90 miles from the GW Bridge and a world away. The cabin in situated in the center of 3 acres of woods surrounded by other wooded acres. There are no close neighbors and the lake at end of the road, such a short, beautiful walk, made it unique. I love kyaking and swimming and x-country skiing in the winter and this property for me was ideal. I know it will be the perfect choice for others who, like myself, want to get away without having to travel 3 or more hours. There is a major town nearby in Monticello if you need to do shopping or go to a movie or restaurant, but it's far enough away to be truly in the woods. The proximity of the other lakes in the area, Superior State Park, White Lake in town and Black Lake down the road make it a unique area for water sports. And now the cabin is a 5 minute drive to the Bethel Woods Music Shed and site of the 1969 Woodstock Celebration. The music festival is fantastic! and the new Woodstock Museum at the site is something you will see nowhere else, worth the trip from anywhere!
