Enjoy unforgettable sunsets every evening as you dine, enjoy a drink or simply put your feet up and relax on the lanai of your very own beach house in Sunny, west Kauai. Take in breathtaking and unobstructed oceanfront views without even leaving the house.

Aloha and welcome to Hale 'Ono Kane Kai', our spacious, 3 bedroom, two & 1/2 bath, oceanfront home in Kekaha. Custom constructed in 2004, this home has three separate lanais, totaling 1100 square feet of 'OUTSIDE' living area, and an additional 1700 sq ft inside.

West Kauai is home to the longest, continuous stretch of white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii. (over 15 miles long). Additionally, Kekaha is the closest town on the island to the world famous 'Polihale' Beach, which is arguably the most incredible beach in all of Hawaii. Polihale Beach has miles and Miles of pristine powder sand, 100 ft tall sand dunes, crystal blue water and a gorgeous backdrop with views of the 3000 ft cliffs of the Napali Coastline.

Salt Pond Beach is yet another choice within a few minutes of Kekaha for those days when you want extremely calm waters to swim in, or perhaps do a little snorkeling. Salt Pond beach is in a protected cove, so it's almost always calm enough for taking the 'little ones' in the water too.

Activities in West Kauai include surfing, sunbathing, swimming, body surfing, boogie boarding, wind surfing, whale watching and endless hiking opportunities. In the winter months, you can watch whales right from the lanai of the house, and year round you can enjoy the magnificent westward views over the ocean and the island of Nihau, which is the closest island out in front of you, approximately 18 miles off shore.

After a day at one of our incredible beaches, you can rinse off in the private, outdoor shower. At night, let the sounds of the ocean’s waves rock you to sleep.

Kekaha is located on the 'Sunny' west side of Kauai and is the western most town in the US. With an average annual rainfall of less that 20 inches, you can almost be guaranteed a warm, sunny vacation, regardless of the time of year! This is like traveling back in time to the way Hawaii used to be. No crowded beaches, no tourist traps, no hotel resorts, just sun, surf and people who remember what the 'Spirit of Aloha' really means.

Less than a block away is the road that leads to the famous 'Waimea Canyon' and the 'Kalalau Lookout'. There are two major grocery stores three miles away and you are minutes from the harbor where you can catch a sunset cruise along the NaPali coast.

The living area of this house is actually the second floor making the unobstructed ocean views from every window even more spectacular. The master bedroom suite has a beautiful stone and glass block shower. Ladies, you will never have to worry about your guy leaving the toilet seat up in this bathroom because he will have his very own, custom, built in urinal! The other two bedrooms and second full bath are extremely private, separated from the main house by a large lanai. The bedrooms are air conditioned and there are ceiling fans throughout the house.

To satisfy your entertainment needs and keep you 'connected' during your stay, you will find this house well stocked with electronic 'toys'. There is FREE broadband, Wireless Internet access, Stereo CD player, two televisions, DVD player, and VCR.

Come experience luxury in paradise at Hale 'Ono Kane Kai'!

We absolutely loved everything about this house and the area it's in. We stayed here for a week with my in-laws, there was a total of 6 of us. There was plenty of room. We used the kitchen quite a bit, there are plenty of utensils and cook ware. Our favorite part of the house was the Lanai, we spent most early mornings and evenings on it. Everywhere you look there are beautiful views. We loved this side of the island because it is very quiet and un-touristy.The pictures on this site do not do the house and it's surroundings justice. It is so much better once your there in person. We walked around town a couple of times, ate at Auntie B's cafe, very good Loco Moco!! There is also 1 gift shop in town if you need to buy souvenirs. One of our favorite places we ate at is "Wranglers" over in Waimea(a little pricey), but very good steak and Mai Tai's. We did a boat tour of the Napali coast and we used Liko Kauai cruises. We HIGHLY recommend them, first of all the harbor where you meet them at is only 5 minutes from the house, the guys who run this boat are very personable, and very knowledgeable of the area. They offer a light sandwich lunch which is very good. We went out at the end of April and were still able to catch some whales playing, we also saw dolphins, and of course the view of the Napali coast is mesmerizing. We also went to Smiths Fern Grotto and did the river boat cruise, this was alot of fun, plus we attended there Luau, very good food and show. It was our first Luau to attend so we have nothing to compare it to, but we were very pleased with it. We also drove out to Polihale State Park beach, you have to go down a 5 mile bumpy road to get there, but it is more than worth it. This was our favorite beach on the island. It is amazingly beautiful and very secluded. We would highly recommend this house rental to family and friends and will hopefully be back ourselves one day. Chad was very helpful in answering our questions and was very accomodating with certain needs that we had.

The house is great and has everything you would ever need. The views and sunsets from the lanai are the best! Being able to look at the ocean every morning and evening was great. There is alot to see and do in Kauai from helicopter rides ( highly recommend), zip lines to snorkeling. Or you can just sit on the lanai relax and enjoy the views. I can't wait to come back again. Will recommend this place to friends and family who are planning a trip to Kauai. Thanks again!

We stayed for 11 days for my birthday, which gave us plenty of time to explore the island. This was our first time in Hawaii generally and Kauai as well (obviously). I can say that staying at Hale Ono Kane Kai was a great decision. The home itself is just luxurious. No other words. The location is awesome. Some will complain about the road in front of it, but we didn't have a problem with it. And others may complain at not having beach right in front of them. But as others have mentioned, you have beach 1/4 mile west and it goes for only miles and miles after that point. But in general, the tourist centers of Poipu, Kapaa and Princeville FELT touristy. We visited them, but the small towns like Hanapepe, Waimea, Kekaha, these felt like real Hawaii. You SHOULD know that if you plan on driving up to Princeville/Hanalei, it'll be close to 2 hours and I do recommend checking them out. Especially Kalalau Trail. But you have Waimea Canyon at your doorstep if you want hiking and you have Polihale Beach and/or Kekaha Beach if you want crazy secluded beaches that few tourists hit up. Just make sure you have 4-wheel drive and don't drive into sand with a Dodge Charger (like some people who will remain unidentified might try). This is well worth the money and would be my first choice if we go back again!

If you’re hiking in the Waimea Canyon for a few days, this is a great house. The house itself is exceptional. The Master Bedroom does need a King Bed (versus Queen), but that’s almost nit-picking, because the Master bathroom was awesome! Our largest consideration was location. It is very close to the “back way” into the Waimea Canyon, and hiking in the Waimea area was what we were doing for 4 days…and so the 5 nights in this home was really great. We combined this with a week on the North Shore (Tunnels beach), and had an amazing vacation. The owner (Chad) was very helpful.

After a very wet week in Hanalei, we moved to this house. First off, the Kekaha weather was MUCH nicer. Kekaha is a great little community-not turisty at all. Very intimate and very much a neighborhood-it felt like home on vacation. The house was beautiful and everything it was represented to be. There is physical separation of some of the bedrooms by a lanai and that was very nice for privacy. The house was very well appointed, right down to all the beach gear you need. We initally had concern about the road but after about 1/2 an hour we didn't even notice it. The tremendous ocean view totally trumped any road issues. Watched whales from the lanai, ate there every nite as well as morning coffee and happy hour. We found it to be an excellent value for oceanfront. Our friend had their kids and 2 small grandkids come after we left and it worked really well for them. We look forward to renting this home again.

When looking for vacation rentals, I had one primary goal, I wanted to rent a beach house. I wanted to be able to walk on the beach in the morning with coffee, I wanted my kids to be able to run on the beach and swim, snorkel or body surf and then run back to the house with gear in hand for a quick snack before they headed back out for another go around. I searched for countless hours online to find the perfect place. And I thought I had found it in this house. Statements like: "taking in the breathtaking views of the longest, white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii!" "Watch the whales, surfers, sunbathers, swimmers, body surfers, wind surfers ... "our spacious, three bedroom, two and a half bath, beachfront home in Kekaha." and the two images showing beautiful beach front access. I thought I had found the perfect beach house. I even overlooked how far away it was from all of the other attractions on the island because I didn't think we'd need to leave home. This house has none of the things in the statements above. There are no sunbathers, swimmers, windsurfers, body surfers because there is no beach or even the ability to access the water. It would be EXTREMELY dangerous to enter the water in this area. The photos do not accurately represent the property's location on the beach. Water comes all the way up to the rocks roadside and at times water even splashed up over the side onto the road. No part of the beach is visible from this property and it is not walking distance. One other very surprising feature was the traffic on the Kuhio Highway, this is the road in front of the house. As mentioned in other reviews, the noise is very loud and makes quiet evenings or mornings relaxing on the lanai, well not relaxing. The traffic runs all hours day or night. Thankfully with the air conditioning running in the bedrooms, it won't keep you awake. I was expecting this from reading the other reviews, but still quite surprising just how loud it is. The content and images of this website are misleading. I would definitely not recommend this home if you would like beach access or beach views.

Owner response: If is unfortunate that this particular guest happened to be staying in Kekaha in August of 2011 when we experienced one of the worst beach erosions we've had in many years. Even the lifeguard station has been effected, and will probably have to be moved until the sand fills back in. This has been front page news this month, and if I had the ability to control the ocean's swells and the effects it occasionally has on Hawaii's beaches, I certainly would. The only thing I have control over is the condition of the house, and the first class amenities it provides on the side of the island with the best weather. Staying in the town of Kekaha has wonderful benefits like the longest sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii, and it's the closest town to the Waimea Canyon, which has the island best hiking opportunities. The start of this beach is approximately 1/2 mile from where this house stands, (during the worst of conditions), and in the winter months, it almost always fills back in right in front of the house. (The pictures she is referring to on the website are exactly how the beach appeared in the Spring of 2011). There are homes on Kauai that would fit into the category of what this guest described as what she was looking for. (in a protected cove, where the beach conditions are not greatly effected by the oceans swells), however, those homes are on the rainforest side of the island, where it rains most of the year. Additionally, most are 2-3 times the rental rates of this home. Hale Ono Kane Kai is in the front row of houses in Kekaha, with unobstructed, ocean front views. It is the absolute premier location for a stay on the west side of the island. There is no other house in Kekaha that can boast of a better location. Staying on the sunny side of Kauai with ocean front views, and being less than a mile from a 15 mile long beach is the reason we fill this house year round and have happy, repeat guests year after year.

This facility by itself is excellent, except for the road noise day and night. If road noise bothers you, you will NOT like this place. If you can ignore this noise, which overpowers the both conversation and TV, then you will love this place. We will be more careful in the future when making our selection.
