Located in a rural, low density area of Thetis Island (in the Gulf Islands), Secret Sea Cottage Retreat consists of 10 acres of park-like tranquility situated on a quiet little known ocean lagoon we call "the Secret Sea".
Secret Sea Cottage, a home residence retreat available to our guests since the early 1990’s, features seclusion from bustle and crowds. It is ideal for adults or families seeking a relaxing and recreational retreat from hectic lives. There are acres of privacy, hundreds of feet of private waterfront, dock, picnic facilities, trails, meadows and many other delights to enjoy in this exclusive sanctuary of nature and time. Secret Sea is particularly well suited for a honeymoon getaway.
Guest accommodation is private, quiet and independent, including separate parking and entrance. The interior has timber-framed character and is heated with a wood-burning stove. It has two bedrooms and is suitable for two to four adults or a small family. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and overlooks the gardens and meadow leading to the water. The second bedroom has a double bed. An additional mattress could be set up in the small bedroom or in the living area. We also have an outdoor solar hot water shower that guests love to use.
Guests are welcome to use kayaks, the rowboat and bicycles, as well as enjoy the many features of Secret Sea Cottage Retreat, including the gardens, meadows, a one-quarter acre pond, meandering woodland trails, waterside hammock, and lawn games. When the tide is in, guests enjoy swimming and boating in the inlet; when it is out, guests collect shells and explore the variety of marine life. Guests are also welcome to sample some organic vegetables from the garden when available.
Our lower meadow leads to a charming Gazebo that is perfect for picnics. The Eagle deck is located at the top of dock. Many guests enjoy eagle watching as the eagles dive for fish at low tide. We usually have several eagles hunting for food every day during the spring and summer months. Kingfishers, hummingbirds and various other songbirds are in abundance on Thetis. Guests are also usually treated to sightings of deer, otter and mink. For your peace-of-mind, there are no dangerous animals (wild or domestic) and no security issues have ever been experienced. Our sole pet, Mouser the cat, freely "patrols" the grounds and loves making new human friends.
Secret Sea offers many quiet hideaways for reading, writing, artwork, picnicking or quiet contemplation. Our guests are welcome to enjoy the entire acreage, the lagoon and the waters beyond. There is much exploring to do on our quiet island and guests are provided with a map to enhance their Thetis experience.
Please note that we do not accommodate pets and smoking is strictly limited to certain outdoor areas. Secret Sea Cottage Retreat offers a casual, friendly, relaxed, safe and self-contained environment. Our guests are seeking a tranquil escape and appreciate the generous privacy and quiet we offer. Come experience Island life where traffic is scarce and the stars shine brighter! Most guests come for a week or two--and never want to leave!
