The Residence Fattoria di Catignano is situated about eight km from Siena - the city of art which is so important to the culture and history of Tuscany. It is also only three km from the 408 road which from Siena leads you to Florence, passing first through Gaiole, Radda and Greve in Chianti. It is not far from other equally charming localities, such as Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano (to the south) and San Gimignano, Volterra, and Massa Marittima (to the west) all are no more than 50 km away.
The property was built at the end of XVII° century by the ancestor of the currents proprietors, Quinto Settano, pseudonym of Monsignor Lodovico Sergardi, a writer and a lover of the arts.
The small borough already existed in 1500 with the name of "Clatinianum" as a property of Sergardi family. Nowadays the Villa, overlooking a beautiful italian garden, decorated with statues representing the four season, and the medievaltowers of Siena in the distance, welcomes guests who appreciate historical sites and suggestive atmosphere.
The building, settled in the luscious green Tuscan countryside, is framed by the "Italian garden" and the so called "bosco inglese." Then between the olive groves you will find the "viale dei cipressi" which leads the way to the swimming pool, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Siena and its surroundings in the distance.
Guests will appreciate lemon trees, vases of geraniums all around the Villa and the Arcadian atmosphere which has been for centuries a frame to the tradition of a family of notaries and lovers of letters and arts. We are certain that the peace and serenity of this ensemble will remain with them forever.
WEDDINGS, PARTIES, FAMILY REUNION:
WEDDING ROOM/ITALIAN GARDEN: The old "Tinaia", completely restored with cap vaults and terracotta' floors , can hold up to a hundred and twenty people for weddings, meetings and dinner parties with catering service.
From the Tinaia it is possible to reach a large terrace and guests can also make use of a wide external area including a beautiful and charming Italian garden overlooking Siena in the distance.
For wedding dinners and parties, we will also be happy to suggest possible catering solutions to anyone interested.
Inside the property there is also the private and consecrated Chapel "Cappella di Santa Croce" built in 1697 on a commission by Filippo Sergardi and planned by Jacopo Franchini. It is a central plan building preceded by a porch and characterised by a dome set in an octagonal basement and by a rich stucco decoration. The high altar shows a relief representing The History of the True Cross.
