Just steps from the rue Cler food market in the prestigious seventh arrondissement, Champ de Mars Apartment strikes the perfect Parisian note of sophistication and elegance with its eclectic mix of modern and antique furnishings in a classic Hausmann-style building.

The apartment’s two bedrooms plus den, two full bathrooms, spacious entry gallery, salon, and fully equipped dine-in kitchen make this an ideal setting for up to six guests seeking style and comfort for their Paris stay. It is ideal for two couples or a small family.

The apartment is entered through a spacious hallway, which serves as a gallery for the revolving collection of 19th and 20th century paintings of the apartment owners. Immediately to the right is the salon and the front bedroom with its en suite bathroom.

Down the hallway to the left are the kitchen/dining area and the second bedroom. The small third bedroom and the second bathroom are directly off the entry hall.

One of the most appealing aspects of this 950-square foot apartment is its layout, which stretches from the front of the building facing the street to the interior courtyard.

The two main bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the apartment, ensuring a measure of privacy even when the apartment is fully occupied. Double French doors at either end of the entrance hall also provide, as needed, an additional element of privacy.

The apartment itself is a classic Haussmann-style affair renovated to highlight its original features -- among them: parquet floors, extensive wainscoting and ceiling mouldings, and three marble fireplaces, each with its own mantle-to-ceiling mirror. Flowing silk drapes adorn the apartment’s five double door-windows and their iron-rimmed balconies.

Dramatic lighting fixtures - a little art nouveau gem in the entrance hall, a romantic Napoleon III gilded brass chandelier in the master bedroom, a globe-studded belle époque lustre in the salon, a retro 1950’s folie in the dining area, and an eight-light, wheat-hued metal chandelier taken from a 1930’s boulangerie in the rear bedroom - take full advantage of the ten foot plus ceiling height. Oriental carpets and tasteful art work set a tone of restrained elegance.

From the entry hallway, the master bedroom is reached through the salon and its two sets of double French doors, making this bedroom with its en suite bath its own private enclave within the apartment. The bedroom has a 140-cm (55 inches wide) double bed. The well-lit master bathroom harkens back to the turn of the century with its black and white tiles and classic fixtures.

The second bedroom is located at the opposite end of the apartment and overlooks the spacious interior courtyard. Here, the beds may be arranged as twins or a queen-size double.

The den or study is located off the entrance hall way. Painted in a cozy dark red, this room is furnished with a sofa bed that can sleep two. The second bedroom and the den are served by the hall bath, whose handsome new appointments and fixtures all draw their inspiration from the early 1900’s.

The dine-in kitchen is located between the entry hallway and the second bedroom and can be closed off from the front of the apartment by a set of double French doors.

The L-shaped work area features a granite counter top, all modern appliances, and cabinetry done in lightly stained oak in a style reminiscent of an early 20th century Parisian bourgeois kitchen. An early 20th century painting of a Provence village scene overlooks the 18th century country farm table and the six wooden bistro chairs that provide the setting for everyday dining.

For larger gatherings, the table can be expanded to accommodate eight. Cream-colored silk curtains frame the windows overlooking the interior courtyard.

Set off from the rest of the apartment by two sets of double French doors, the salon provides a restful space for reading, quiet contemplation, informal gatherings while planning the day’s activities - or a venue for elegant entertaining.

Off-white silk curtains set the tone, framing the two double, south-facing windows overlooking the street. A deep brown velvet sofa and two 1940’s vintage easy chairs speak of comfort as much as simple elegance.

To the left of the marble fireplace with its gilded mirror is an unusual Napoleon III secretaire; to the right, a 19th century English vitrine. Presiding over it all are 19th and 20th century French paintings.

Located midway between the Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, the apartment is on the second floor on a one-way cross street between Avenues Bosquet and Bordonnais. One and a half blocks to the west is the delightful Children’s Carousel on the Champ de Mars, the expansive park which runs from the Eiffel Tower to the Ecole Militaire.

Just a block and a half to the east is the rue Cler, a pedestrian market street with a dazzling array of specialty food shops and market stalls. The Ecole Militaire metro stop is a two-minute walk to the south. A ten-minute walk in the other direction leads to the Pont d’Alma over the Seine and onto the chic boutiques of avenue Montaigne.

It is no surprise that within a five minute walk are a dozen top-rated restaurants and bistros and many, many more food shops. This elegant quarter is home to well-to-do Parisians and the food and restaurant offerings show it.

In short, Champ de Mars Apartment may provide some of the most fond memories of your next stay in Paris. So check the calendar below to see if the dates you want are still available. Space and Charm in a Great Neighborhood

Guest: K Marie (Evergreen, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 11/21/09 Review Submitted: 12/01/09

We were pleasantly surprised by the large size and fantastic location of this property. The kitchen, bedrooms and living space were more than ample for a family of 6. After walking the sights of Paris all day, the high quality beds and bedding were a pleasure to fall into. The property manager was very responsive and accommodating. A caretaker meets you on your arrival to answer questions about the apartment and area, which is safe, convenient, and colorful. I would highly recommend this property and would stay there again if the opportunity arises.

Owner response:We would like to thank the reviewer for taking the time to post. We encourage travellers to contact us for more information about this property. The location, size, layout, and service provided make it a wonderful home away from home.

Perfect!

We were two couples and a 16-month-old boy. The apartment was perfect for us. The bedrooms are located on opposite ends of the apartment, which gave all of us some privacy. It was great to have a laptop and internet in the apartment. The location was awesome - quiet neighborhood, lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance, short walk to the Eiffel Tower and Batobus stop. We loved it.

Wonderful Paris Apartment in a Great Location

Guest: Tom (Indianapolis, IN)
Date of Stay: 09/18/11 Review Submitted: 09/29/11

We were on an extended European vacation with another couple and had planned 4 full days of sightseeing in Paris. The apartment was everything that was advertised in the VRBO listing and was a great place to end the day. Compared to a cramped hotel room, this apartment allowed us to spread out and relax in a very luxurious environment! We started every morning getting fresh pastries from a nearby bakery. Although we did not do any cooking, the kitchen was well equipped. We were within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, Rodin Museum and Gardens, the Envalides as well as the rue Cler market street. There were several nice restaurants in the area. I would definitely recommend this apartment to my friends and family as a place to stay when they visit Paris.

Our Paris Vacation

Guest: Francophile (La Jolla California)
Date of Stay: 04/05/09 Review Submitted: 09/19/11

My wife, our daughter and son-in-law and our grandchildren 11 and 12, all rate this as our very best vacation. The apartment reminded us of the apartment of Julia Childs in the recent movie. The location was perfect and the agent could not have been more helpful, as was the Paris guide she sent us before arrival. A car awatied us at the airport and the return car was right on time. We were met at the door and everything was clean and perfect, including the Champagne in the refrigerator. Every morning my granddaughter would be waiting for our trip to the artisan bakdery across the street for the "best croissants in the world" she said -- and her father is a chef -- (her's were alway chocolate). The open air market market 2 blocks away was an every day trip and all the sights, including museums were within walking distance. We hope to return very soon.

Very lovely apt and enjoyable stay in August 2011

Guest: alexi (princeton nj)
Date of Stay: 08/09/11 Review Submitted: 09/09/11

This is a beautiful apartment in the lovely 7th arr of Paris. Lots of light with beautiful French windows over looking a quiet charming street in the front and windows overlooking an interior courtyard in the kitchen. A lovely twin-bedded room in the back and a a queen bedded room in the front with two bathrooms that my husband called "the best he had ever used in Europe" A cramped den with a double pull-out bed was just fine for my son, but probably not great for two adults. The apartment was a bit dusty when we arrived due to the staff being on vacation in August and the replacement unclear on what she should do (also some previous renters had destroyed some of the cookware), but the property manager was very reponsive to my email (called immediately) and made the situation better (including replacing the cookware that day). We very much hope to vacation there again.

First Trip to Paris from Florida

Guest: Michelle (Lakeland, Florida)
Date of Stay: 03/12/11 Review Submitted: 04/17/11

Our first trip to Paris was outstanding! This apartment was the perfect place for 6 ladies to stay as we visited Paris during our spring break in March 2011. We loved the apartment! The location is the best- it's only a few minutes walk to the Eiffel Tower, shops on Rue Cler, and an ATM right across the street! Having enough room for 6 ladies to sleep, two bathrooms (that had blow dryers!), an area that we could all sit down and visit/share our purchases for the day, full kitchen, beautiful tulips and wine on the table on our arrival day, were just a few of the highlights. We loved how secure the apartment was- felt very safe, in an excellent area of Paris. We're talking about visiting Paris and would stay in this apartment again.

My husband and two children (ages 10 and 12) had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful apartment for our first trip to Paris. We were in walking distance to the Eiffle Tower, Rue du Cler shops, Invalides, Rodin Garden and Museum, and so much more! The decor of the apartment was beautiful, yet warm and inviting. The two bedrooms, situated on either side of a long hallway, provided a great sense of privacy for my husband and I, as well as some independence for my son and daughter. We were thrilled with the apartment, and dealing with the agency was an unbelievably positive experience. I would recommend Stacey and this agency to anybody, and when we return to Paris (a definite!!), we will absolutely try to secure the same apartment. Beautiful and memorable!!

Your apartment was everything advertised and more. It is in the perfect neighborhood for a family such as ours. Every morning the grandchildren and I would go to the corner bakery for baguettes, multigrain bread, and delicious croissants, etc. We had delightful meals in the apartment from the shops on rue Cler (our son-in-law is a chef) and wonderful walks to "everywhere" in Paris. My grandson and daughter even jogged two days in the wonderful park. We all loved the apartment and, as you said, it accommodated the 6 of us superbly. If all goes well we will be back to you many times.

Your apartment is even nicer than the pictures! We stayed with our two college age sons, and had a wonderful time. The proximity to rue Cler shopping was great and we walked to the Seine, Arc de Triomphe, and St. Germain shopping. It was so nice to come home to our well furnished and comfortable apartment at the end of a long day. Thank you and we will be back.

We spent the first week of October with our best friends in your wonderful apartment. I spent alot of time researching before settling on this one. It was worth the effort! The rooms were spacious, clean, and located in a beautiful section of Paris. All the food markets were so close, on two nights when we were too tired to go out, we carried in delicious, prepared food. Stacey was great and easy to contact. This is where we stay when we return! Thanks for a terrific week!
