Lazy Lehua Cottage was lovingly built between 2003- 2004.
The idea for Lazy Lehua Cottage was to make it a special
place for guests to stay, dream, and regroup. Focus was
on putting as much character, charm and soul in to it,
and making it a whimsical, beautiful place for everyone
to enjoy. Trees were hand cut and property cleared only
enough to put the Lazy Lehua Cottage in its perfect place.
The beautiful Ohia trees that unfortunately had to be cut
down were used for the posts on the lanais giving it,
its whimsical cottage look that blends in well with the
rain forest. In keeping in the spirit of whimsical,
some of the furniture throughout the cottage was hand
crafted; coffee table, bar top, headboard on bed, using
all local, exotic, and native woods. We know you'll
feel the magical spirit of the house when you stay here.
Enjoy - Lazy Lehua Cottage.

Loved waking up to the sun shining through the many bedroom windows. Looking out and seeing giant tree ferns... green everywhere! Wonderful songs of the birds in the rain forest. Cozy gas fireplace stoves were so convenient after a rainy day hike in Midnovember. Although I never minded any rain. It is just so gorgous here! Fantastic double sized jacuzzi bathtub in masterbath (it does takes a little while to fill it properly). Compact but complete kitchen made it possible for us to prepare most of our meals right there (restaurants are another option). Farmers markets in Volcano Village on Sunday (EARLY! Get there by 7 AM as most clear out by 9) or Wednesday and Saturdays in Hilo. The produce and other foods are scruptious and the farmers are an absolute delight (My husband and I are Marin County farmers market junkies! But the Big Island farmers rock!). If you are like me and you don't like crowds, the Lazy Lehua Cottage is perfect: serene surroundings, artistic decor abounds in this gem of a vacation place. Laying in the blue hammock chair on the front lanai you will wish your vacation would never end. And you are so close to the many destinations you most definenitely don't want to miss. P.S.: Do rent a 4-Wheel Drive (not just an All-Wheel) if you are adventurous and like to do some exploring as that is required for Waipio Valley and some other areas... P.P.S.: Good healthfood store in Hilo ("Abundant Life") -- Ideal to visit on your way from the airport to the cottage (approx. 30minutes from Volcano Village). Great healthfood store in Pahua ("Island Natural Market"), slightly different direction but also about 1/2hr distance from the cottage.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I cannot say enough great things about this cottage. It is located 2 miles from the entrance to Volcano NP. So convenient to go there and explore every day. But, much more than its convenience, we enjoyed the cottage itself. It is beautifully located and has complete privacy. You are surrounded by rainforest and feel totally secluded even though there are actually homes around. The lanais (three) are all so lovely. When you awaken in the upstairs bedroom, you feel as if you are in a treehouse. We only cooked breakfast there but the kitchen is very well equipped for most any meal. The owners have done everything possible to ensure your stay is a good one. They have tons of tourist info, maps, etc. available for your use. Bathrooms are nice and I loved the jacuzzi upstairs. One word of warning - the owners tell you (pay attention!) that it can get cool there. It was 39 the first morning when we awakened! Warmed up a good bit on the ensuing days plus they provide electric fireplace both upstairs and down along with other heating sources. This place was beautiful and I thank the owners for sharing with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Charming, whimsical, extra convenient to sites in the park..we could go on and on. Beds are very comfy. Spices, condiments, and soft side coolers in kit: shampoo/conditioner and more in bathrooms..one with rainfall shower head and one with jetted bathtub. even has a wonderful electric pot belly stove.GET GROCERIES (we loaded up at Walmart & Safeway in Kona). Stores here are minimalist. Enjoy the hammock on the porch. Very clean. Stairs to front door and upstairs bedroom.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The Lazy Lehua Cottage was probably the best appointed house I have ever stayed at from VRBO. The details were endless.. coolers, ice packs in the freezer, bubble bath.. just stuff you might not normally think about. It was cozy and lovely and I want to live there! Great location too if you want to visit Volcano National Monument and not far from Hilo either. I would stay there again someday, especially since we didn't get to see any active lava flowing into the ocean. Great reason to return! :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We live elsewhere on the Big Island and just returned from a short getaway to the Lazy Lehua Cottage. What a perfect place! We enjoyed it for a romantic anniversary getaway, but it would be well-suited to a small family as well. The entire house was generously equipped--wood for the back-lanai chiminea, well-stocked full kitchen (including coffee, tea, cocoa, spices, popcorn...), several choices of bubble bath and handmade bathsalts for the tub, two entire bookshelves of movies, etc. The cottage and grounds were just lovely; lots of whimsical touches and obviously maintained with care and kuleana. We felt warmly-welcomed by the fresh flowers and fruit left by the caretaker. I've stayed in lots of vacation rentals over the years--many wonderful--and this was, hands down, my favorite. Highly recommended! (nicely located,too--easy access to Volcanoes National Park and a half-hour or less to Hilo or the Kapoho tidepools)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. When we were there, it was quite damp and misty. But at the end of a day we came "home" to a cozy warm cottage. We used the fire places and the decor made it so warm and inviting. I enjoyed the jacuzzi tub after hiking all day in Volcano Nat. Park. We were so close to the Park that we visited "the glow" every night. Being in the rain forest among the huge ferns, flowers and trees was like a mystical fairy tale cottage. We loved the way the cottage was done up when we arrived-macadamian nuts candy kisses, fresh fruit, flowers and decorating touches. Thanks to another reviewer mentioning a french press coffeemaker at the cottage, we had kona coffee made in the french press. We also grilled fresh swordfish that we had gotten at a farmers market on the outside grill. Now that's heaven!! Thanks for an amazing place to call "home" for our stay on the Volcano side of the Big Island!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband and I began our honeymoon at the Lazy Lehua Cottage, and we could not be more blown away. We wanted to begin our honeymoon in Volcano, HI away from the hustle and bustle of the beaches, and this vacation rental was a dream come true. The cottage itself is warm and inviting with THREE different lanais to enjoy. The kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, coffee maker (both electric drip as well as a small french press), coffee grinder, toaster, all major appliances and EVEN SPICES to help with the money saving cooking you can do. We loved the board games and cd's in the downstairs cabinet. We made the long (and worthwhile) trip out the Mauna Kea, and we were so tickled to have so many music options. We even left our Adele 21 album for the guests who follow... The master bedroom is perfection. Comfortable bed, with lots of extra blankets for the nighttime cool down, a closet with hangers if you so desire, a flat screen television and dvd player if you want, and most importantly, a indoor jetted bathtub for two. Perhaps what set this rental from Excellent to OUT OF THIS WORLD for us was the personal touch. We walked in to a hand written note welcoming my husband and me. Inside the fridge, we found a gorgeous, handmade lei resting around a bottle of champagne. There were even two Hershey's kisses on the pillow of the bed. It is obvious that the owner Joyce and the caretaker Rebecca care deeply about this property. The reservation process was painless, the stay has been marvelous and the only downside was leaving. I never imagined I would be disappointed to be heading to Maui! We will most definitely be coming back to the LLC when we come back to Hawaii!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was a fun stay in an interesting stand alone cottage. It was as though you were on your own with no sign of life around you other than the surrounding rain forest. A great base to explore the volcano, Puna coast and Hilo. We really enjoyed our four nights in this unique lodging. There are several nice restaurants in the area as well. We especially enjoyed Thai Thai right in Volcano. The winery was fun too. Snorkeling at the tidepools was great as well. The cottage is well equipped and the rental experience was very professionally handled. We would return with no hesitation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Thanks so much for our lovely stay!! This cottage has everything I would ever need! We loved the extra luxurious little touches like fresh flowers, fresh papaya with lime, and pretty cloth napkins on the table! We had a lot of rainy weather, so we got ample time to enjoy the wonderful music, game, and movie collection. The sun poked its head out on our last morning and my children built fairy homes in the dreamy front yard. Thank you for an amazing experience. We hope to come back!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The Lazy Lehua Cottage was absolutely amazing! The cottage has everything that you could need while visiting the Volcano area. The outdoor are was very peaceful and the hammocks were nice touches. When we had a small issue, the house caretaker fixed the issue promptly. Volcano Village and the National Park are both minutes away. This is a perfect location for seeing the south / east part of the island. Highly recommended, I cannot say enough good things about our time at the cottage.Owner response: Aloha Kevin S.
